is there a special pattern in the DLINK DUB-H7 HUB when you use 5 USB Miners?
i had some problems after a reboot ... i only could plug in 4 Miners and the last one never was recognised by bfgminer and in the Windows Device Manager i had a yellow Warning Sign by one COM-Port

Is it the same stick that fails each time, or just stick number 5?

If it's random then its a power issue.

but i don't know what changed between the reboot

well now it works again

deinstalled all drivers / devives
unplugged everything
reboot
reinstalled drivers
plugged ASICs in the HUB
plugged HUB in another USB Port

now it works and i won't touch it again ;-)

My BEs have evolved to this:

The array consists of 70 devices with daisy-chained hubs hosted by a single USB 2.0 port on an old netbook that's running Windows 7 x86.  A BFL device is also in the mix (the netbook didn't like hosting it separately on its remaining available USB ports) and works just fine.  I decided to populate each hub with only 5 BEs, loading their respective 4A power bricks (which theoretically supports up to 8 BEs) at about 62.5% in an attempt to be within the peak efficiency envelope (around 50% load).  The array is mounted and fits nicely on a 9"x12" clear plastic clipboard.  The netbook draws 11W off the wall (120V AC) while mining.

Yet another evolution of my 70 BEs.  The 49-port hubs are still daisy-chained and hosted through a single USB 2.0 port on the same old netbook.  On the bottom right corner are two Blue Furies.  This configuration can accommodate 14 more Blue/Red Furies for a total of 16 (whenever that will be).  A BFL Single is also hosted through the hubs.

I think about hub with 20 ports: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/20-port-usb-2-0-hub-bitcoin-miner-usb-hub-with-power-adapter-90W-20V-4/1325996072.html
How Pi takes all 20 ports at once?

My other Pi handles 20 erupters on 4   7port d-link hubs with no problem.(don't know much about the hub you plan to use)

Edit:-  check the first post in this thread there are some comments there

I've updated the OP with the link to the 49-porter, which is sold separately by WTCR.

I think that this will be my last OP update, unless something revolutionary turns up.

Incidentally, I plan to sell about half of my BE farm, as announced here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=354379.new#new
They are still profitable to run with the current BTC price vs. my cost of electricity. However, I seek to reduce management overhead and free up one machine for other things.

Hello! I understand that USB is 5 volts, however, I have a 12v 2.5a adapter sitting here. Could I wire that in and be okay? Or would something get fried?

I just grabbed one of these hubs to see how it would work - http://www.ebay.com/itm/251342525547?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

I like the layout of the ports, you could easily fill it with block erupters.

Note that this hub requires some modifications for mining use

1) bypass the power switch or rewire it with heavier wire, the original wire will cause significant voltage drop and heating at 3+ amps
2) desolder the tiny barrel jack and just wire your power supply directly, it will probably melt at 3+ amps
3) desolder the red usb wire coming from the host pc to the pcb, this will stop any voltage from flowing backwards into the pc, there are no protection diodes on the pcb
4) solder a 47uF capacitor across the VCC and GND points that are now free on the PCB, the hub "crashes" and stops working if you don't do this step (it worked fine with a usb keyboard but plugging the miners in caused it to stop functioning until power was cycled to the hub)

So if you feel like tinkering, 5 minutes with a soldering iron can net you a hub at $1/port shipped from USA
I have only tried it with five BF1s so far, full load test to come when I get some more time

I dunno if anyone is still maintaining the list, but this is a nice cheapish 10 port USB2 hub with decent power..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=orico+10+port+hub&_sop=15

Orico P10-U2-BK USB2 10 Ports 12V 3A £17.99 ($29.31) bought on Amazon UK recently, ships from Hong Kong postage included.

USB2 is good enough for mining. 35 MB/s or 280 Mbit/s is faster than most peoples internet connection.

No, you must only supply regular hubs like the one in my post you quoted with 5vdc. Only certain USB3.0hubs work with 12v adapters because they have internal power regulators that reduce the voltage inside to 5v

These are nice hubs but 12v 3A power brick is a bit small to feed 10 sockets

It's much better than a Dlink 7 port hub selling for the same price with 5V @ 3A

$30 gets you 5A x 3W = 15w / 7 ports @ 2.1w per port
$30 gets you 12A x 3W = 36w / 10 ports @ 3.6w per port (enough for a twin fury 3.25W@4GH/s!)

Hi everyone,

I believe I've found the holy grail on USB hubs for miners. Orico makes a 10 port USB 2.0 hub (P10-U2), but never advertises is. I just got in contact with my rep, and will be placing a very large order on them. Cost is going to be significantly lower than any other hub on the list on the front of the page. The PSU is 12v/3a, and is a spitting image of the P10-U3 (which ranges in price from $50 - $65 online).

I should be able to sell them for between $25 - $30 USD including shipping. I am planning on buying at least 100 of them to save a little money on shipping to me (which is likely going to cost about $3 - 5 per unit).

I haven't seen anyone else mention this hub, so I thought I'd speak up. I've had great success with Orico, since they're the ones behind the major favorites like Anker and Satechi.

I bought two of these from Amazon under the Anker label w/4A power supplies back in July. They have been going 24/7 since. Only problem is the push/push type power switch tends to stick down in hot weather and needs an occasional tap on the unit to free it up. The 4A supplies get quite warm but not hot, so I might think the 3A units underpowered.

some comments from earlier this year...............

Has anyone tried this with a Pi?......... USB 2 "should" be ok but with Pi?
