I have the same thoughts. I never thought that bitcoin would have this kind of impact for the year 2017. The year started with only a few people knowing about bitcoin and right now, it's been blowing up the internet. I've never seen so many ads and articles about it. This year just kept upping the game each month, each week, and until recently even each day. I've said it several times before, that this really is the final threshold we are standing on, right on the brink of mass awareness. Cryptos have been coming and going for quite sometime now. None have approached the widespread acceptance as well as authenticity of BTC. Both these things you are proposing are good qualities for a currency of course, but it doesn't look like that bitcoin depends on this recognition anymore. Even if so, Bitcoin value does increase over time and it is widely accepted, atleast the most commonly accepted currency now. So it already has these two qualities.

What we also need to keep in mind that the bitcoin team has the oldest devs in this line. Every innovation worth mentioning has started off from them. Its hard to find another crypto whose innards both technically as well as socio-economically have been debated and propagated so much. That makes it robust.
The development is agile and Bitcoin seems to have taken everything in its stride. Once we can get over the debate of LN leading to centralization, I think we'll be well on our way to see BTC as the Prime.

IMO 2018 will be altcoins year. There's nothing impossible to increase overall cap by same amount as 2017, yes. Everybody is hopeful that this year will end up to be a good year inspite the lengthy bearish season.

Though looking at things, we see a lot more of people hodling their assets that could affect the market activities that could influence the price growth. Then we also have fud scattered around that makes potential investors think twice and some are even pulling out of the market that lowers the total capital market.

Add to that the disapproval of many bitcoin etf proposals and the continual delay of decision to others that sends a negative signal to those with less crypto knowledge.

After analysis the year economist suggested that this year the price might be around 30000$ at the end. Well if that's true, then this bear market wouldn't be sustained this long since mass buying means the price would likely pump. I'm not sure if a lot of people look at it that way but 2018 is becoming a year of waiting and seeing for holders.

I think I'm not sure that price increases will not cause their own collapse. This situation prevents bitcoin from becoming a full currency.

The future industry is controlled by the state and the central banks. Governments are now planning to create a digital currency using blockchain technology.
