Thanks for the info. Hackers and DDoS are continually becoming a serious threat to the cryptoworld and we all have to be very careful in protecting our funds. Over the week, several exchanges were being attacked by DDoS leading to suspension of trading activities for hours in those exchanges.

I doubt this is the case.. I think the only one who will lose some coins/tokens are the one who entered their private address on etherdelta in the 30min-1hour window where the hacker was phishing.. The thing is it was saying we got logged out, so some people tried to import their account back and wrote their private keys.. I also have hundreds of tokens in my etherdelta but I believe in the end there won't be that much that will be stolen.. but it still sucks if you are the one who have been..

This is a big news and great help as well, thank for share the information.
Fortunately, I haven't get into this decentralized exchanges, as there are some flaws recently.

Whoever hacked this site is going to continue to drain accounts when they log into etherdelta.  Thank God I have found out it was hacked before I have visited the site. I feel sorry for the many people who were not fortunate to get the heads up on the site being hacked.  I think the word needs to go out more so that people could avoid that site until the problem has been solved.

I don't think the maintainers should be gatekeepers on a decentralized exchange. Because then you turn it into a centralized exchange. Maybe not technically, but in terms of power.

Just in case I used the same method as the OP to withdraw my main investment just in case and then used MEW for transfer to a safer wallet.

And there are many users that there deposits have been loss due to this hacking in etherdelta.  Whoever done that will be rich lol , there are many etherium that are being loss of most users in that exchange.

Another thing they could've done was contact the host of the scam website so they could take it down, but ED didn't do that. Even the operators were surprised that ED didn't contact them, it was the users who did.

I think the Eth developers have long recognized the need for better security, not so much on the network itself, but the smart contracts. Hence the ETH upgrades. Apparently, the language is "easy" to learn and therefore a lot of programmers who don't know coding so well leave a lot of vulnerabilities. This is the downside of having dapps enabled where everyone is free to code. Decentralized exchanges are still the way to go, it's really sad that all these new start ups are facing hacking problems but that's the reality of decentralized apps.

Remember guys, store your ETH as much as possible on your own wallets.

He told me, he already entered the correct domain.
But it looks like he was directed to a phishing site that has exactly the same look as etherdelta.

I think everybody is trying to withdraw their money from EtherDelta right now, but for now it is not logical to try to withdraw ETH or altcoins from a exchange market site under attack. While you are trying it, you can be stolen Mew addresses by hackers. While you try to save your money, you will lose on the remaining of your ETHs.

Yes, agreed. If we want true decentralisation and all the associated benefits then we have to accept exposure to shitcoins and hope the market treats them accordingly. Although that will depend on investor education and having trusted institutions to call out scam coins when they see them (Ethereum Blue does exactly that so please feel free to check them out)

Etherdelta would be fine, although it was recently compromised but nothing they took from the users because Etherdelta never took or owned a single information or even any kind of keys from the users. The compromise is only affecting the transaction but I think no coins were lost in the event.

Just saw this today, and I think it's quite sad that this is not getting more exposure on social media, since it could help user from etherdelta to lose their funds. There's a tutorial how you can withdraw your tokens/ethereum in etherdelta without accessing their website. Do not access their website because you will be redirected to the hackers fake etherdelta.  That's the way that you will be hack. For now the only option you got is to withdraw your ethereum/tokens without accessing their website.

You have to withdraw them FIRST from EtherDelta to the EtherDelta wallet (that you used to deposit to the EtherDelta in the first place), then after you move from EtherDelta to the EtherDelta Wallet (using that guide), then you can enter in MEW using the private key of the EtherDelta Wallet, and move your tokens to a safe wallet in MEW or any other wallet that you never used the private key in ED.

For example:

Lets suppose you created a EtherDelta Wallet there in ED.

What's really unusual is that rather than just throwing up a fake site, these hackers have managed to get access to the EtherDelta DNS servers and put a phishing site on the real EtherDelta domain. Think about that for a minute.

Tens of thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of people may have logged on in that time without being able to tell the difference and ended up handing over their private keys to the hackers.

You are entitled to think that if you use ED through a bookmarked link that you've always used then you'll be safe but even that wouldn't protect you in this instance.

Also, etherscan.io seems to be having some SSL issues so please avoid for now.

You can move your tokens out of EtherDelta but don't attempt to log into the site as it isn't safe yet.

I would recommend joining the Ethereum Blue Telegram group and reading their pinned post which gives step-by-step instructions on how to move your tokens out of EtherDelta. The admins and members are really helpful and you'll learn a lot about crypto security.

As crypto investors we have to take personal responsibility for our security. This is proven by the latest EtherDelta hack as well as many other exchange/wallet hacks before this.

We simply cannot rely on exchanges alone to protect us.

For example, nobody should be leaving their funds on EtherDelta but after this hack it has become apparent that many people are still doing this.

Anyone who went through the simple process of setting up either MetaMask or the BLUE chrome extension would have kept their tokens safe from these ED hackers. We need to promote education and personal responsibility otherwise fear of getting hacked will keep mainstream money away from crypto.

This is a disaster. This is why we need decentralised DNS and decentralised hosting of files. We need an entirely new decentralised web where this simply cannot happen.

Still not over yet and even when EtherDelta is up and running again they will have to put a lot of effort into convincing people that it's safe to trade there.

They do have the advantage that there isn't really anywhere else for people to trade such a variety of ERC20 tokens but security should be the priority. And now everyone should know that they must only trade on EtherDelta if they are using either MetaMask or the even safer option of BLUE chrome extension.

Either of those options would have prevented user's private keys being compromised even if the user had attempted trading on the fake EtherDelta site.

One of my crypto friend was hacked by etherdelta last night in just a blink of an eye all of his eth was gone. It happened after trading some of his token and then he tried to withdraw his eth back to his mew but when he checked his wallet no more eth left behind it went to 0 balance. Do not send your tokens directly to the smart contract, or they will be lost and unrecoverable. Use the Deposit form (upper left) to send the proper deposit transaction.

The attack on EtherDelta was a case of DNS poisoning where the domain name for etherdelta.com was hijacked to point to another server.

Unfortunately in this case, using the official URL or bookmarking the URL will not have prevented exposure to the attack.

The problem is that there are no alternatives depending of which tokens do you want to trade. ED has the worst interface and is extremely easy to make mistakes, but it is so needed that people have to use it.

Those kind of hacks could become more sophisticated in the future. What if they social engineer the DNS, upload a fake version of EAL on the Mozilla extensions page, and also advise people to withdraw from EtherDelta manually through a fake version of MyEtherWallet? Those things have already happened, except not at the same time yet.
