I agree, I would pay a premium for Canaan's reliability and distributors added value, but 2x antminer is insane. My point is, they are doing business, demand is huge, if they sell for less money they are stupid.

Stupid? Or rather competent and reasonable? If those 821 were 20TH/s, go for it. 16 TH/s? Still bearable. But this "new model' is nothing new. Obviously Canaan "stopped" to manufacture 741. With 741 reasonably priced on the market, who would buy 821s?

I mean, don't get me wrong. I currently own several miners, including a couple of 741s. With funds ready in place, I've been looking at Canaan's new line (like anybody else). Expected to pay premium as well. But 300% the price for 35-40% more power on 741 vs 821 is beyond ridiculous. This is such an obvious manipulation and money grab it is sickening. It is! We are talking here 11 TH/s. Eleven. That's S9 efficiency in... November 2016!

Guess you'll just have to wait for the new miners then.   Good luck to you.

I hope Blokforge can beat that price. on the 741's sale there were about $150-200 cheaper because of the shipping being free. So I will speculate that the Blokforge will sell the 821's for 3500-3700. But i would like to see it go for 3k.

Well it looks like the link should be coming up any day now for the special forum run.   Heres hoping we get a good crack at these first runs.  As with anything the price of the A8's will come down as more, and more are released.  Hopefully we can see them stay in the $3400-$3600 price range for this first batch.

Most likely yes, they should include the PSU in this batch just like CryptoUniverse did.

Based on the interest in this thread, there will probably be far more buyers from the forum than the 10 that Blokforge said they plan to offer!  Smiley
Oh well, it is still good to see that Nick and others at Blokforge are participating here!

Yeah, I think we're all nervous to find out what the pricing is. Hopefully the 10 set aside for the forum will be limited to 1 per person so 10 different members have a chance.

$4000 for a 11TH asic miner lmfao.  Smoking crack I see.  So... more money.. for a product that generates LESS money than the competitors... a year ago.  Yea, sure.  I'd rather buy up a bunch of 741's than pay $4000 for a miner that is essentially mildly better than the 741.

The mining game has mostly been for the ones that can write off a business expense or worse, launder funds into buying miners.  That is why you get those crazy 'never ROI' prices.
They aren't paying straight out of their hard earned pocket money like most people hoping to do here.

With the recent boom in bitcoin price all the old shennanigans are back

So what you're saying, is that those people are doing it "correctly".   Write-off the miner expense, duh!

Bitmain had another batch of S9s this morning. Sold out in 6 minutes at a price of $2320. Although they seem impossible to get, it's a very reasonable price compared to if these were at $4k. At 10 cents per Kw/h you're looking at ~4 month ROI on the S9, the 821 would be 12 months Shocked .

I get paying a premium on an Avalon over and Antminer, but the premium to me is paying the same amount of money for both, and getting less TH/s out of the Avalons.

I think right now the premium is more based on getting the miners in hand, as opposed to waiting a couple of months; and it doesn't look like their were a lot of 821's released for this early batch between all the distributors.

I think the business model with Canaan has changed to allow the distributors more flexibility in setting their prices. Probably why you don't see the individual price on Canaan's page for the 821 in the way that you saw the 741 price.

So we'll just have to wait and see what they come up with for a price; either way we'll all know soon enough.

nah it's a bit more underhanded or you wouldn't see these prices.. someone can easily add a few miners as 'servers' as part of $200k budget where it should of only been $150k or less to get the job done.  even without mining many people spend way more than what's needed on equipment since it isn't an exact science on capacity rollouts.

Basically creative theft.. I wouldn't bring this up here but all this talk about double the price of ROI makes it come up again

How does one get in on the "forum run" of the new 821s?

You have to know the secret pass phrase.   A link will be provided at a random point in time (in this thread by Blokforge themselves), from now until Friday.  You then must stand on your left foot while entering in the pass phrase "Mecca Lecca High Mecca Hiney Ho".  If you are in the first ten to do this, (YOU'RE) IN!

Did this just change recently or did I just miss it before?  Looks like the only forms of payment on their site as of now is either BTC or wire transfer - doesn't matter if you are in the US or not.

Yeah not sure if that's a permanent switch or just for these small batches. I would say from their perspective it cuts down on PayPal and credit card fees.
