Thanks to R0mi for his PM to me about my Onda woes... Still no joy getting the board to boot despite trying multiple video cards and swapping out the SODIMMs, but it was during the latter that I noticed the package claimed these were DDR3L modules, while the modules themselves said they were 1.5V DDR3... A bit of digging on my part revealed that DDR3L can be used in DDR3 slots, but not vice versa, so this may very well be the problem.

I'm going to see if I can find the memory locally because I don't really want to go through this hassle with Amazon again, nor wait a week for Newegg to get around to shipping something.

Yes, you need the 1.35V mem or it will not work.
Even then, the Onda board is quite temperamental. It took me a while to get it to boot properly - including removing the battery, shorting the pins to clear CMOS etc. After a couple of tries, I got it to beep and boot. It's working well now, but usually doesn't like to "reboot". I need to cut the power to the board completely for it to shut down.

Thanks for responding! I just ordered a stick of Crucial ct51264bf160b as it is supposed to be 1.35V DDR3L; I was unable to find any locally; well, except for a pair of 16GB modules for $180, and that was too rich for my blood.

Is the pair of pins marked J2 just to the upper right of the Celery CPU for clearing the CMOS? It's the only pair of unused pins I can see, and getting at the battery is a real pain once the GPUs are installed.

When you say it doesn't like to reboot, are you referring to the hard reset switch (lower left corner of the board) not working consistently? That would be most peculiar if the case...

Pushing that button actually resets the bios afaik, so I'm not touching it now. I usually don't need to reboot anymore, that rig is hashing pretty much as intended (apart from that one Vega card that's hashing 150h/s slower than the other 5 for an unknown reason).

Btw I flashed the bios on that mobo. Be careful browsing around the Chinese Onda site, there's two bios files, one for the original version of the board, one for rev.1. I had to blind-flash back to the correct one after I bricked the board with the wrong version... Got really lucky actually.

As usual, Australia is late to the party. You can still buy 1070ti for $500USD here, I just picked up 5.

For .au pricing in these current conditions, that's good value.

Can still find them that low on rare occasions - more that the stock is completely out at most retailers except for very brief "we got some in *SLAM* well, we're out again" situations.

I got my MSI Turbo 1070 ti up and running tonight - and am VERY displeased with it.
Card works well, performs pretty much identical to the EVGA SC and Zotac Mini model.
COOLING though is the worst I've seen out of ANYTHING.

104 watt TDP, 90% fan in a 80F room and it's barely managing to stay down to 70C - and that's AFTER I removed the mounting plate (which was only worth perhaps 1 degree C as it's pretty close to wide open to start with).
Even the Gigabyte ITX cards manage about 8C lower than THAT at the same wattage, on LOWER fan settings. and the Zotac blows it out of the water much less anything with a GOOD cooling solution.

MSI needs to put a lot better fan or a lot better HS/Heat Pipe setup in those cards, they're WORSE on cooling than FE models.

I won't be buying any more.

It baffles me why MSI has 4 versions of the 1070 ti if they are all clocked and priced virtually the same.  I wonder if they even bothered to put higher BIN'd chips in these other versions or just skipped that process all together since they weren't allowed by NVIDIA to market them as OC'd versions.  I have a few MSI DUKE's coming this week, hopefully they don't suck.  Cheesy

Hi guys.

I want your opinion in nicehash now since they got hacked/whatever. I feel its really profitable when you can move funds freely to coinbase and then to GDAX with free withdraw. Seems like its one of the better options right now, or am i missing something?

Apart from high withdrawal fees (if not transferring to Coinbase).... its an easy and quick to sell hash power to buyers.

Which pool, which coin ... its quite tiring this chasing game... so if you want an easy way to accumulate BTC, yeah NH is a good place to be.

Yeah I'm at a point where I just throw everything at nicehash. I get slogged the full 5% fee which is annoying, but I will acquire more hash-rate to be able to mine 0.1 BTC within 4 days so that the fee is reduced to 3%.

From what I can tell, you pay 2% to nicehash wallet and to get it out of there you pay the network fee of 0.001 BTC - which probably totals 3% anyway.

I didn't know that it was free to coinbase - I will have to look into it.

Cryptonight in particular has been paying wayyy higher than ordinary XMR rates for a few weeks now. Equihash is quite strong as well.

Mine to nicehash wallet. 2% i think. Rest is free all the way to your personal wallet if you use coinbase -> gdax. I dont reall understand how gdax can have free withdraw but that is noone of my concern  Grin Grin

Oh, man, I bet that was a few minutes of white-knuckle fury/terror, take your pick!

So the button labeled reset is the CMOS reset, not CPU reset? I guess I'll stop pushing it to get the mobo to do something different...  Tongue

Thanks again for the post - and the warning about the BIOS update; that's usually one of the first things I do with a new mobo.

It was. But after a moment of sheer despair I realised the board was beeping every time upon boot so I thought I might have a chance to save it... Indeed, the (only?) difference between the original and the rev1 boards seem to be the IGFX. So the board was booting with the wrong bios, just not sending a signal to the external GPUs. Based on that assumption, I managed to find the correct bios using my PC, chug it onto the usb stick I used to flash the wrong bios onto the onda, and repeat the few simple steps to flash the correct one blindly. Rebooted... and I had signal. I then let out one of the biggest "PHEEEWWWWWS" of my computer building life! Cheesy

Guys, what are you mining right now with your nvidia or amd rigs?

Since this big drop of every single coin, I'm not sure if I should move my nvidia and amd rigs to nicehash or keep them on low diff coins or long term eth or zec.

Every opinion is appreciated Smiley

The Aereo coolers are absolute crap.... by far the worst coolers we had the displeasure of trying this past year (out of over a dozen different models). We had to RMA a pair of Aereo 1080s after testing them less than an hour since they were overheating right out of the box.

NVIDIA.... Neoscrypt?

1080ti - NIST5 is still holding up?

In bleak times like this.... in my experience ... just put everything on NH, focus on accumulating BTC and HODL.

Yeah, a sea of deep red today.
Haven't heard of any terribly bad news so I reckon it's just a big massive dump after a crazy run... Just before Chinese new year.

Give it a few days... Maybe weeks. But it'll stabilise and will likely start to go up again.

Coins might still lose another 50% before that though. No hurry. I like Citronick's accumulate BTC and HODL approach.

By the way, there's an (unofficial) Zpool gui miner available now. Same UI as Nicehash. Look up the thread in here. I'm trying it out as I type this.

No 1080tis, only 1060 6gb.
Never tried NeoScrypt, only Equihash, lyra2z and lyra2v2.
NeoScrypt is more memory consuming than equihash right?

More expensive than an air cooled 1080ti when on sale.

I have about 26 MH/s NVIDIA 1050ti,1060,1070,1070ti mix doing Neoscrypt (ccminer 2.2/smos) generating 0.0127 BTC at NH

As long as no ETH mining, the rest of algos are pretty tame/easy for NVIDIA GPUs IMHO.

Unfortunately for us, the cheapest an air-cooled 1080ti is on sale is around $795 USD. It's all about context I guess Smiley
