Whilst Telegram is growing in popularity, it is really just another social platform which is great for everyone who uses it, but I don't think it can be used to measure the success of an ICO. I've seen channels which have over 20,000 members - and yes, discussions in a lot of them are great, but there are some where just the same names keep popping up. - a handful in some cases. I don't think the channel boosts token sales -it doesn't harm it - but those who are going to invest, will do their research - white paper, etc.

I hate the groups that offer telegram bounties as it often gets filled with bots. And then it gets worse if the group has an auto-welcome message! Makes it impossible to get any meaningful communication via telegram that way.

Having more telegram participant does not mean the success of particular ICO, I am having many ICOs which are failed even they have more than 10K participants in telegram. Getting thousands of telegram is not big task just go for airdrop people get attracted easily.

In my opinion, Telegram is just one more tool and platform for the promotion and advertising. It doesn't give me more trust or reliability in the project. I see it as good PR and social media strategy, but not a guarantee of a project success.

I agree that telegram is one of the main social media for promoting ICOs and some investors really evaluate projects by their telegram groups. What I've learnd from my personal experience, the number of group members doesn't really matter is ICO has an airdrop or bounty campaign. What is more important is the actual activity of users and their unique messages. This statistics really can show the interest to the project amoung investors.
ICOdrops has such a utility on their site to monitor such telegram activity.

In the recent year, media such as twitter, Facebook and telegraph played a great role in promoting encryption. But a powerful telegram is not a new standard for ICO success.

God I hope not. I hope it stays just a part of the important factors of an ICO, not the most important ones. Especially during airdrops or other give-aways channels become flooded with retards. They bring nothing to the community (perhaps a tiny percentage at best) and only join for the rewards. Of course it looks like a great accomplishment if you have 80k members in your chat, but if you get only 3 replies when you mention an important milestone you know all you need to know.

I do think it is a good way for short lines of contact, only if it doesn't turn into a childrens playground (which is often te case).

Some things I like:

- Turning off comments (muting) during ICO phase
- Not allowing links and/or pictures/animated gifs
- Strict ban policy on spam
- No speculation
- Not talking about bounty programs

Yes, that's one of the reasons for the success of ICO today, so they are looking for these users. Even if they did not join the ICO's signature bounty, they were still Airdropping, so they will took part in the ICO.

I often participate in telegrams of ICO projects to see people evaluate the project. and the good questions of investors when asked about the project, the answers of the administrator. That's what I care about.

I think so. When a lot of people in the telegram, it already speaks about the popularity of the project. And this of course gives more priority to this project. It is rare that there are many people in the telegram in the group. Usually only a few thousand.

I don't think it is , i use it to follow some coins. It seems very easy to randomly add people , and most people aren't leaving. And there are probably some other ways to artificially increase the amount of users they have. I'd say Whitepaper, roadmap and team still go before telegram activity.

The support of society is really important, and many investors pay attention to this, analyzing how active are the pages in social networks and in the group of telegram. But this is not the main factor, only a combination of factors should be taken into account when choosing a project for investment.

Not necessarily. In many countries telegram is an unknown word.

Telegram is the some way to see and understand the flow/operation of ICO, you can check the status and success by asking the moderators/ICO managers so that if we have objections/questions of their project

In a way we could measure the potential success of an ICO through this but the problem I find with this is some telegram members are added to these groups without their consent which in a way could be seen as breach of privacy and give the ICO a fake image to help market it, hope the telegram devs work on this and maybe send out invitations which you can accept or decline as a fix to this.

Yupsss,  telegram is one of a measurement of ICO successful, but this is not the only one,  telegram is use as a media of telecommunication between the investor, support participants,  and the ICO management,  but I think the amount of telegram member couldn't be  used as a barometer will be successful or not,  the barometer is how active the official group member to talk about the future and the plan of the ICO,  because there also many members in the group that joined only as to complete The rule to get a rewards ( bounties participants),  investor conversation in the group is one of many measurement that could be used as a barometer how will the ICO success or not in the future

I don't think this telegram can play an important role in crypto development. It's just a social media resource. If there is no telegram, it will certainly be replaced.

I think Telegram is one more social media platform to connect with investors and other traders as a way of communication. It is used in many countries of the world, and in some of them as in mine is completely unknown. In Telegram, the members of the team will update about the project they are joining.

One thing we look in checking the ico is their telegram community but unfortunately this is just use by some to deceive the investors as the people are just fake like they're just there because of the airdrop program but not an investor. I think we should look in other way to check how legit their ico and just always believe in our guts.
