Which are the best competitors to Ethereum, and why do you think so?

(I know on top of my head that Cardano and IOTA try to challenge Ethereum,
although they still haven't proved much from my understanding?)

In my own opinion, bitcoins and ethereum are just the coin that will be competing in the market and because of that we can always expect the price to fluctuate due to the competition of both coins in the market.

I think the best competitor for Ethereum is EOS, because I see many people are investing in EOS.

There are more than 100 competitors to Eth, but asking this question is similar to asking "Best competitors to Apple?". There're plenty, but Apple is sitting on the very top by continuously innovate/research/create new way to bound people into their cult. In a way ETH is like that. There's not a cult like project that is stronger than ETH atm.

I see great ones - EOS, Credits, Ada, Arcblock, Strat, Waves. Strat and Waves are still very undervalued and should rock this year!

NEO all the way! Neo smart contracts are very similar to Ethereum’s, in that they, too, allow users to register, trade and circulate assets via a validated use scenario. However, NEO supports a variety of languages such as C#, VB.Net, F#, Java, and Kotlin, whereas developers have to learn Solidity, a native Ethereum code, before they can launch applications on the network

from a lot of Altcoin, I think altcoin that will be a tough competitor of Ethereum in the future is NEO and EOS these two coins have modern technology that allows it to grow to be bigger in the future.

Some of the competitors of Ethereum that I know are Cardano, Neo, Cybermiles and presently Nexty which tends to pose a strong challenge to the ethereum blockchain because of its no fees transactions.

I think it is EOS and NEO, especially EOS. If it succeeds, it will have a great influence on Ethereum.

I think altcoin that will compete with Ethereum is bitcoin Cash because I see the BCH movement to replace bitcoin is very hard but anyway the bitcoin will not be replaced and so I'm sure BCH will try to rival Ethereum because Ethereum is the best Altcoin after Ethereum

I think many altcoins now can be ETH's competitors. Like Waves, it is the best liteweight wallet there is around, keeps several cryptos too, all my tokens, Decentralized Exchange, leasing all in one place. Waves blockchain is the quickest available right now. It will take a lot more than CryptoKitties to take it down, that's all it needs to break ETH.

I think the best competitor of Ethereum is BCH because BCH has a high price and I know this coin is trying to replace Bitcoin and it will not happen because I'm sure Bitcoin will not be replaced its position because of Bitcoin mother of all altcoin

In my opinion, Ethereum's most powerful competitor is EOS and ETC.
NEO because all three coins are growing very fast but do not have the ability to replace Ethereum.
ETH is now more popular and the price is also stable. I hope it never happened.

I think no one can compete to ethereum because they have all differences and advantages in the market. All altcoins are good and have different goals and perspective in the cryptomarket.

One thing that comes into my mind when we talks about the competitors of Ethereum is the Neo, although it is struggling in terms of value and its way far to the way it was, I still think that it has a great potential to be compete against Ethereum, after all its the next generation smart economy platform. I'm sure that it will make a huge comeback in no time.

NEO or XLM could catch ETH too - they can be really good basement for ICOs and exchanges. 2018 is year of ICOs and whose platform will be the strongest we will see.
To back you up i have started to see ico building their project on Neo and XLM respectively, i think they will pose a challenge to ethereum in 2018/2019.
