I'm actually joining and supporting more ICOs right now as that helps me to earn new tokens without much capital and risk
I agree with capital aspect but I do believe that ICOs are very risky, there is no guarantee that it’s actua going to succeed and I for one am always skeptical about them because of so many stories about ICOs that scam people and then vanish without a trace. I would rather trade cryptos than investing into ICOs.

Your points are right in its own place but besides that I am investing in some good ICOs which are listed as high rated on the ICOBench and after the end when the coin is added to the exchange I earn a very good amount from that investment.

If the price of the coin not increase then I at least earn from that discount of the ICO which is given to the early investors at the early time period of the start of ICO.

True, i myself don't join in ICOs now even if there's benefits like a low price and bonus coins. I would much rather join in when it has already pulled up numbers and actuaally became successful. From there since it won't cost me anleg to invest then that's when i do. Other than that, I'll stick to BTC thanks.

I decided to quit ICO's. From December till now I invested about 5 eth into several ICO's. Invest what you can miss, this is what was able to miss.

Right now the first few of my ICO's have reached the exchanges. Most are under performing, but this is related to the overall dip (can be read everywhere). I understand, but ICO token economics have changed also.

  • massive hardcaps
  • most is sold in pre-sale to big investors, leaving scraps for crowdsale
  • much attention to marketing, less to working product or realistic time lines
  • immediately available on EtherDelta and IDEX, sure sign of little interest in token economics/future
  • no lock on pre-sale tokens, whales take their x2, x3 or x-whatever as soon as possible (I would probably have done the same). Prices drop to below ICO price.
  • too many ICO's without distinctive differences.
  • too many ICO's in general
  • too much tokens reserved for team/marketing
  • many ICO's don't even have a crowdsale anymore (which perhaps is a good thing as the little investors are protected this way)
  • ICO prizes are quite high. 1eth = 1000/4000 tokens is pretty common, but with a hc of 40 million, this will not easily go x10 or more.

I was 'unlucky' to miss out on a few ICO's besides the ones I was able to participate in. Afterwards I am glad, since I was able to pick most up at a fraction of the ICO price.

Important as ever: DYOR as not all ICO's have a genuine solution to a genuine problem. Some may seem like a fantastic solution, but often it is marketing combined with a strong team, and not so much a great working product.

And who am I? I am definitely a nobody Tongue, but still wanted to share my experiences and perhaps save people from thinking of getting on board of the next x100 ICO Smiley

p.s. when a Telegram has over 20k subscribers all screaming 'when lambo' with endless rows of animated gifs, you may also wonder if this is a serious block chain solution which will revolutionize 'x' Smiley

It was very unfortunate for you, there are a lot of successful campaigns today and their participants who advertise the platform are getting a decent amount of payout that they can use for their daily needs.

Don't quit and give up in participating ICO's because this is only the way to earn especially if we don't have enough money to do investment. Don't lose hope while still here in the world of cryptocurrency because everyone deserves to have an happiness if you have been experienced a challenges now then you need to be strong and fight for it to overcome this problem.

True, i myself don't like to join ICOs now. 4 out 5 ICOs failed. 3 of the four didn't even reach their cap. 1 is just plain scam. But then again, let's not generalize all the ICOs. I'm pretty sure one or two will be alright and 1 will be a great one that you would regrey not joining.

ICO is now a very risky investment, many factors contribute to this. Although last year has passed a lot of very successful ICO, you need to be smart with this case

You are quiting ICO because you may be frustrated of what happen to the ICO that you participated that it did not give tokens or the ICO that you join is a scam project, but for you do not quit ICO and continue  believing that there are still OCOs that are true to their launching and not a scam ICOs.

Digital currencies are pretty popular these days now and I that also means we really need to be careful since being hacked and scammed now are very popular too. A lot of people are taking advantage of those people who want to invest on digital currencies ICOs or projects knowing that a lot of people are hoping to gain profit through investing on digital currencies.

Before investing, always ensure that the project are legitimate. Look at their goals, their road map and especially their white paper though there are still some great scammers that even with a deep research, you will be still scammed.

It deserves to be risky because once the success of our account will increase many times. Many people take risks, they will observe carefully before invest.

should not give up ICO. We all know in the Crypto market that ICO plays a very important role. It can generate many times the profit. But now there are too many ICOs every day. If that is the right choice then I believe there are still plenty of potential and make a lot of profit
You can earn money with icos that is correct, but at the same time it is getting harder to earn any significant amount of money through them because there are so many new projects that it is almost impossible to know which one is a scam and which one is a real one, people get confused all the time and they invest in the project that it was a scam and they lose their money instead, that is why there are many people that are stopping investing in icos.
Right now marketing is doing main roll in these all ICO's because I check few scam ICO's take money just because of marketing and run away as few countries implementing laws about them is good but still need to do some more work for avoiding these scams in recent days I check few projects take good amount of money and as ICO end they never came back or give update just because of this very hard to find good projects

Sad to know that there are a lot of scammed ICO's and it is very hard to differentiate the bad and the good one's. It is a matter of doing your research ask referrals from friend. I have also some bad times with ICO's but i can say that the good one's are worth it and i am not quitting with it.

there a problem not with ICOs, but with the way you choose them.  None of blockchains dropped below ico price, even not that much hyped project looked good on bear market, i personally will invest in upcoming ico project - Egretia

Well, you stated the facts about ICOs especially those with really high expectations in teems of caps. I cannot blame you for quitting ICO because as these days, most ICOs are really failing because of the reasons stated above. However, if you want to succeed in ICOs investment, you have to give time and effort in researching about the project.

You managed to communicate colorfully and emotionally your mood, and even at some point I agreed with you. But remembering my positive experience, I can not be entirely at your side. I love ICO. I like to spend days searching for information, analyzing, listening to intuition and acting. To be honest, I have invested more than half of my fortune in several projects and will continue to believe in them.

Fortune might be an overly ambitious description of most peoples worth unfortunately!   I know many young people are here because high growth is very much required when the initial capital is quite low and crypto remains a high risk, specialised knowledge area which does in a good way open it up to those most able to familiarise themselves with new terms in technology.

If anyone did really gain alot like maybe the OP has done ok then I also agree with the idea of diversifying away from purely ICO investment.  Its not good to rely on just one thing and of course overall for 2018 ETH has declined some, that doesnt mean long term it would only do that and I still think high growth is possible on each business case examined.

Thats the positive thing to consider, new ideas are appearing and taking an interest and investigating possible growth is still well worth doing.   However in a bear market or pullback like 2018 has seen, it becomes harder that is for sure

You probably just visit lucky with ICO. I read a lot of branches on the forum, where people wrote that earned on the ICO for 5 thousand dollars!!!! I think these guys were just choosing from a lot of companies and they had to take them out before they took part.

So, many ICO have really made fed up many people, everyday I open the internet so many new ICO are looking for investors. This is really a dirty bossiness and one needs to be very careful before investing in any ICO. ICO which seems sketchy should be ignored upon first look. I always look for the renowned faces in the team so that you can get some assurance for your money.

This is the reason why I strictly dissect ICO that I am investing from time to time. I always focus on something that has network effect, that will capture value and building a unique and important protocol. If it just another ICO aiming to have card then I tell them, nevermind, there's too much similar platform like that already.

Winners never quit, You just need to be strategic in your approach, Most of the ICO I invested in December-January did not do well, a friend just encourage me not to give up base on his experience. Do not invest base on the  number of followers on telegram or social media.
