Introduction

OMBRE (shade in French) is a cryptonote currency and an indirect fork of the well-known Monero currency. Inherited from Monero are strong security, privacy and untraceability features that form a solid basis for further development.
Our mission is to enhance the cryptonote protocol to provide a lightweight, secure, well maintained and [b/actively developed[/b] (no-nonsense) coin.

Some main differences compared to other cryptonote coins are:

  • We use a 60 second block window which reduce transaction times
  • We enforce a minimum transaction mixin of 10 to fight blockchain analysis which could compromise privacy
  • We actively cooperate with other cryptonote coins and do not treat them as competition.

As a cryptonote coin we inherited the fungibility of the protocol.  Features like RingCT make you transaction anonymous and untraceable.

Among other technologies, we use Ring Confidential Transactions (RingCT) that allows you to send OMB (OMBRE) without fearing that someone can trace your transaction.

Supply & Emission

  • Total supply: 1.000.000.000 (1 Billion) coins to be mined in the first 20 years.
  • Coin symbol: OMB
  • Hash algorithm: CryptoNight Heavy (Proof-Of-Work)
  • Block Time: 60 seconds - for faster transactions
  • No premine - Just development funding

Ombre's block reward changes every 6-months as the following "Camel" distribution which is inspired by real-world mining production like of crude oil, coal etc. that is often slow at first, accelerated in the next few years before declined and depleted. However, the emission path of Ombre is generally not far apart from what of Bitcoin. This type of emission was first introduced by the great folks of Sumokoin.

https://www.ombre.io/emission.jpg

Funding
We do not have a premine. Instead we have a project development reward that causes coins to unlock with every block that is found. The algorithm (see below) will start with unlocking 6% of the block reward but gradually reduces to 0% in the next 10 years. In total a maximum of 2% of the total coin supply will be unlocked for development.

Code:
f(x) = 0.06 * (1 - sqrt(x)) where x = current_supply / max_supply S.T. current_supply <= max_supply

The development fee will be used to pay for development, exchanges and marketing.

We wanted to make the announcement before everything was up and running so it wouldn't be possible to have a 'stealth' premine. Everything will be up and running shortly.

Hey all.  We are currently setting up the seed nodes and enabling the pools.  We didn't do this before the announce (on purpose) so that everyone has a fair chance at mining the coin.

Stay tuned they will be online in the next 30 minutes.

Small update:

The seed nodes are up; the explorer is up and the pools are running.
We did a quick bugfix release of the CLI tools as a libcrypto shared library dependency sneaked into the release. This dependency should not be there and could prevent some users from using the CLI tools.

Right now we are looking into some issues that were reported with the GUI wallets.

I'd use the wallet-CLI for now. Once they fix that error, you could alway transfer your wallet to the GUI one. But yeah it's seem to be stuck on height 0 for me too.

At the moment there is nothing we can do to stop this phenomenon ...

All official pools have a nicehash port open. Network at 2MH/s. All new cryptonight pow coins seem to have this hash rate now. Better to mine later if the hash rate drops. My guess is it will.

Devs: Any chance of closing the NiceHast port and give others a fair chance at mining for others with small hash rates. At my hash rate of 300 - 500 h/s it doesn't make sense for me to mine this.

It will not make any difference...those ports are only for starting diff ... we user vardiff so even if we close ports they will still be mining on normal ports and their diff will go up.

Yeah, i realised that later. Can't pools limit the difficulty and reject shares above a difficulty threshold ? Usually new coins give small miners a slight advantage by getting in early. I don't see that anymore with the cryptonight coins. The argument by the devs might be  that the difficutly algorithm takes care of nicehash, but actually it affects small miners even more. The more the time taken to mine a block the more inefficient it will become to mine.

I guess this is the way it is.

The nicehash IP Rene is known, so pool owners could block workers from it, but I’m not sure that’s fair to do and also it would a) require all pools to do it and b) there is nothing to stop someone from setting up their own pool to send the hash to. So basically it’s not viable to try and block, it’s better to rely on a fast acting difficulty algo to make it unprofitable.

Can't the mixing only be done if enough people want to transact at the same time? If you enforce a higher minimum of mixing rounds, could that lead to waiting times or how does it work?

I'm getting alert on the ombred.exe

"Last scheduled hard fork time shows a daemon update is needed now."

Is there a download I'm supposed to run to update this?

Hey, essentially, the mixins automatically are routed through existing wallets - they don't need to necessarily be running a transaction at the same time.

However, you are correct, enforcing a higher mixin results in longer waiting times as you need to wait for the funds to be routed through the increased number of 'proxy' wallets.

Additionally, a higher mixin size can result in higher transaction costs.

We picked a ring-size of 10 for a couple of reasons. Firstly, there is no evidence to suggest that a ring-mixin size of 12 is statistically safer than a size of 10. Some evidence was put forward to suggest that there would be no security benefit incurred above a size of 4 (which is what Monero originally used, you can read about their original decision in this Monero Research Lab paper: https://lab.getmonero.org/pubs/MRL-0004.pdf).

However, a paper was put forward suggesting that this default ring-size was linkable (https://arxiv.org/pdf/1704.04299.pdf). Monero labs published an official response addressing this paper.

In a nutshell, lots of discussion happened within community, and many believe that 10 is the ideal minimum for preserving security (https://github.com/monero-project/monero/issues/1673).

We countered the downside of the increase in transaction time by reducing the mean time between blocks from 240s to 60 seconds (which is still considered safe, even though it can increase the number of orphan blocks created, causing the blockchain to become a little more bloated). This substantially increased transaction speed, even when using a mixin size of 10. Additionally, we (@SadBatman) implemented some compression on the blockchain to counter the effects of transmitting/ downloading the slight additional bloat this incurred.

Finally, some other things were done to reduce transaction costs such that the cost incurred from this ring-size was negated. I wasn't directly involved with reducing the transaction costs, so I can't speak in great detail about it. But, I believe we actually reduced the transaction costs by significantly more than just the amount required to counter the incurred ring-size cost.

I agree - it would be great to have a little more clarification regarding emission dynamics, i.e. elaboration of the diagram.

We will update the emission dinamic ASAP. Things changed alot during developement.

Im not understanding the payments for pool.ombre.io   After mining with about a combined 500 H/sec for the last 12 hours I only have 13 OMB. Is that normal for that rate? What I dont understand is that when I put in my payment address I get this...    is this my payments or everybody's combined?

You have to keep in mind that when a block is found there are two delays before you receive money:

  • First the block needs to mature. You can see the progress of that in the blocks page.
  • Second the pool payment process needs to run.

I assume that since you posted this you received more coins ?

New GUI wallets have been released for Windows and Linux:

It is partly due to a verry good diff algorythm which retagrets diff every block, partly due to alot of miner joining in at the same time, and finally due to our emission schema which is lsow at the beggining then faster then slows down again...Cheesy

I believe the supply is 1 billion?  - Which is also quite high, to be sure.

We thought it whould be better to have a decent size emission instead of lowering to 100mil or 80mil.
We can also keep the fees to a decent minimum without compromising anything.

Open the old wallet inside cli, use "seed" the Cli will print the mnemonic seed of the wallet then import the mnemonic seed into GUI to recreate the wallet with password. If you need anymore help please consider joining our telegram channel.

If you are trying to import an old wallet, the GUI wallet will ask you to set a new password for that wallet. If you never set a password using the GUI wallet before, then it shouldn't ask you to put in a password, unless it is asking you to set a new password for the new wallet you are about to create using your private key/seed or one it generated for you.

You can tell it is asking for a new password when it asks you to set the password twice. (To ensure you typed it correctly) Any time after that, you will only need to enter the password once.

Keep in mind; this password is just so only you can access your wallet using the GUI. Your seed/private key is not tied to any password you set. So even if you forget your password you still have access to your funds as long as you have your seed/private key.

So Ombred isn't fully syncing the blockchain? Have you tried using the GUI wallet to sync it, just to test if it will work? It should pick up where the cli wallet left off.

Please rebuild the wallet using mnemonics. We are aware of this small bug, didn`t catch why it happens.
But 100% the solution is to recreate the wallet from seed.
To do that, open the wallet without daemon, this will ensure it will not remain stuck at sync. Then use the "seed" command in wallet, and recreate the wallet using

Code:
ombre-wallet-cli --restore-deterministic-wallet

Thanks. That resolved it. Always something new to learn.

I also noticed that there's now a mismatch between incoming amount and the actual block reward. I got in my wallet showing a incoming transaction of 84.688669172 but the block reward was 90.089869300.

That is because OMBRE has a dev fee per block instead of premine which currently sits arround 6% but will gradually fall. It's normal for block reward to be 84.

Thanks Bluecore and infinity for the help.  Got everything moved over.  This GUI wallet looks great.  Very clean.

Whats the latest devs?

Do you plan to apply for some exchanges? Not seen a reply from you since I asked the question a few days back, hopefully you are working hard behind the scenes Smiley

Latest developments include - Continued work on the GUI wallet to ensure working order, as well as adding more content to the Ombre website.
We hope to have Ombre listed on Stocks.exchange in the next couple of days. We will update you all as soon as it is listed.

Come check out the Telegram channel, you will be able to keep updated with the latest Ombre happenings.  Smiley
Great thank you for the update and good luck with the listing Smiley

I tend not to use telegram as I'm not a big fan so I'll keep checking back on this thread.

Telegram is good. It can communicate with developers in real time. If there are any mining problems, you can get help from other friends in it.

We are very close to being listed on Stocks.exchange, a few more hours and we should be ready to roll.
In other news the cli and gui wallets for both Windows and Linux seem to be in working order; we have a few more changes we would like to make, but as of right now all the basic necessary wallet functions are in place. The Mac OS version isn't coming along as smoothly though. We hope to get it working as soon as possible.

Small updates:

1) An updated version of the block rewards over time (emission) can be viewed here:
    https://www.ombre.io/emission.jpg

The first block is low because it was the genesis block with 1 OMB as the reward.

2) Stocks.exchange mentioned we will go live tomorrow. Today the wallet was tested and verified to work correctly.

Haha, Nicehashers aren't loyal.
It also might have to do with the fact that payments seem to be broken on your pool partyvibe. Might want to fix that if you plan on attracting Miners.

Hey all,

Just a reminder that we really appreciate it when you report issues you run into on our GitHub repo.
https://github.com/ombre-projects/ombre/issues

No matter how small: any bug or suggestion helps!

Also note that we are looking into implementing a hardfork to deal with the ASICs and additionally we're preparing the Android wallet.

Cheers!

As far as I understand the project is calculated on many years ahead. Demanding design further and completions of details. Interesting of course concept of approach to business. I intend to take part in this project too, but at first probably it is better to study in more detail.

It's critically important to plan years ahead as you can't change every single specification once things are hardcoded into the protocol. You need to think a lot about all parameters and implementations to make sure no major changes are required.

Exactly correct. Ombre has been in the works for quite a long time. Even though it was just recently launched, Ombre is still in planning phases, which is why the website is a bit bare bones at the moment. Ombre wants to go slow to ensure everything gets done right.

The node deamon crashed and went out of sync. I had to resync it to fix payments, all of which have now been settled.

Right approach for a global currency system. You have a lot of competition anyway and chances aren't that big that you will grow above and beyond those established currencies, but if you want to have a small chance you need to get the fundamentals right. Good luck with your work, everyone deserves a try! Wink

Attention miners. An unexpected Hardfork occurred on this pool due to updated software being used.
https://pool.ombre.io/
As we fix the issues we encourage you to mine using the other available pools, as this new chain will not be supported or endorsed by Ombre. We apologize for any inconveniences you maybe have incurred due to this Hardfork.

Current git syncs to pool.ombre.io.

The current pool software causes a hardfork. Refrain from creating a new pool until we get the issue sorted out. Once it is fixed I will let you know.

Not valid.

You made all of those Ombre because you were one of the only miners on that hardfork, making it easy to take most of the reward.
Again sorry this happened, the other pools would be happy to help you get some Ombre.

The website does not work. Huh Shocked
Hey, its currently under development and a lot of bugs will be fixed soon (as well as new features being added). However, the website should work as it is in a limited form.

What do you mean it doesn't work? Do you mean it won't load at all (500, 404, etc)? Do you only see a white screen? Will the website load, but parts of it aren't visible?

Also what browser are you using, the site currently does not support internet explorer, but support for that will come relatively soon.

Due to some.l weird event the network Forked 2 days ago. Just let daemon sync until it reaches the new top hight. If you still have problems please join our telegram. We can help you more there.

It would be faster for you to just sync the blockchain using the wallet software. The blockchain is quite small right now, I would recommend just syncing the normal way.

Give the GUI wallet a try, only just to download the blockchain. You won't have to use it after that if you do not wish too.

Make sure you are using the latest code. I got ombred stuck on block height 21299 too, but stopping it and starting again helped.

(17.5 hours has lapsed at the time of this writing)

Our hundreds of OMBRE are stuck in "Pending Balance", not sure if you are aware of the issue?

Thank you.

As long as the Ombre mined was mined before the accidental hardfork, or after the pool was fixed, you will receive them soon. The pool's wallet is empty currently, and is not able to make payments. After a few more hours (a day or two) enough blocks will be matured to resume payment.

Attention miners. The official pool is currently frozen.
https://pool.ombre.io/
All Ombre are safe and will be paid out soon. As we fix the issues we encourage you to mine using the other available pools. We truly apologize for any inconveniences you maybe have incurred, and will try our best to ensure this does not happen again.

It would be cool to fix pool forking for once and for all.

And to add ombre to https://coincodex.com/

Update from the devs.

The official pool is back up and running. We took measures to make sure it won't be down again.

Right now we are working on the following items:

  • Updating the PoW to make it asic resistant.  We will likely follow the Monero implementation but have not made a decision yet.  @crypto_sr is the owner of this task
  • Increasing transaction sizes (see also https://github.com/ombre-projects/ombre/pull/34/) as some large transactions get blocked by this. @sadbatman is the owner of this task
  • Implement an Android wallet (@sadbatman is the owner)

We also made a prerelease last week available here:
https://github.com/ombre-projects/ombre/releases/tag/1.2.1a

This is an experimental release and please only use it when you are willing to give use feedback on bugs & issues. The prerelease contains the following changes:

  • Fixed DNS checkpointing: we now have DNSSEC servers running for this.
  • Enable HTTP compression on RPC communication.
  • Enforce (and recover) strict file permissions on wallet files.

As always - please report problems on github or come hang out in the Telegram group.

So ... Allow me to explain the situation to everybody. Due to the fact that we have a small network hashrate now, and a small block time of 60s this forks might happen especially when nicehash miners decide to mess with the network. But the daemon has built in reorganization protocol. Cheesy Thank you for your continuous support and understanding.

Can you explain me only participants from the white list can participate in ICO or without prior registration investors will be able to participate as well?

There is no ICO for this project. No pre-mine either. Project is funded from a small percentage that comes off every block that is found. Reward starts at 6% and descends as time goes on, which is a great idea to help prove that the Devs are actually interested in making a solid project and not just running with the pre-mine when the price climbs Smiley

How is it different from other projects?

Ombre is a privacy coin with low fees and fast transaction times. It uses mixins and ringCT to ensure privacy. Devs are focused and have a great road-map planned. It has a unique funding strategy and has a great future.

In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter. You will make the same amount of Ombre if you mine long enough.
However,
I believe 4450 would be the better choice because of the higher Difficulty. If your cards cannot manage it, try 4448, but they should be able to handle 4450.

The project may have a success if devs do their best.
It's a little inconvenient that you don't have an on-line wallet. But I understand it that this is made for privacy achievement.

That's quite alright. I will keep you updated here.  Smiley
Brilliant Smiley

Also congratulations getting listed on those exchanges its a big step in the right direction, lets hope we see more added soon.

Keep up the hard work Wink

Hey all!

The Skynet Ombre Pool is now online using PPLNS payout scheme.
Other features includes the standard email notifications of payments and start/stop of hashing, api access and worker stats.
I have set 0.1% fee and a 15minute payout interval with a minimum of 5 OMB

This tweet pertains to a user impersonating the Stock Exchange brand on Twitter. This has nothing to do with hacking, and I can confidently say it also has nothing to do with the lost of your coins.

Double check you didn't just sell your Ombre coins on accident.

Trying to understand what the unique selling point of this project is. So far it is just another copy paste cryptonote coin as far as I can see. Does not even have a Discord and every time I have checked for developers the page says coming soon.

If a dev can answer the above satisfactorily then I would considering buying/mining some. If that happens and I wanted to solo mine this coin, how would I go about doing so with say xmr-stak?

Thanks and good luck with your project  Smiley

Ombre's number 1 priority is always to be a robust, secure, and cheap payment system. The current options for privacy coins either give up speed for privacy, or privacy for speed. Ombre is aiming to become a lightweight privacy coin, having the speed of Litecoin type coins, while not sacrificing any of the robust Monero technology backing Ombre. All of this combining with low fees make Ombre a strong currency, rather than a store of value.

I wouldn't recommend buying Ombre unless you have a use for it. In the future, it will be easy to swap between store of value coins like Bitcoin and Monero, into Ombre for purchases.

pool.ombre.io is on the right chain. The new binaries also have updated checkpoints to counter the current split.

Regarding that current blockchain split.  We have a block time window of 60 seconds and it makes it easier for these splits to happen. We have seen splits that exceed 100 and this is unacceptable since they really should not exceed the amount of confirmations needed for transactions and miner rewards.  We therefore will now focus on changing Ombre to prevent splits like we have seen this weekend. This will be the high priority focus for us devs in the next week.

Thanks for a speedy answer!  VERY much appreciated.

Next question, using the GUI wallet or CLI wallet, none of my coins are unlocked... i've mined >2400 (from pool.ombre.io ) that have been paid, and show confirmed in the wallet, yet none are unlocked.

I solved the problem, with the synchronization of my GUI wallet. We start ombre-windows-x64.zip https://github.com/ombre-projects/ombre/releases, unpack, run off the ombred.exe, wait for the full synchronization, and then we run our wallet. It works.

We can't join your telegram group it says too many members, seems capped at 200, can you check that out.

Or join the discord, or do a bot, or fix the sync problem.

If you still can't get the current wallet to work, try using the previous release, this works for most people. There are some bugs in the current release that we are working hard on fixing. The current version should be patched and fully functional soon.

I don't see any interest in this project... Looks to have issues, you wrote that you want to cooperate with other crypto but does other coins want to cooperate with you??? Really no difference with other cryptonote coins. Other coins already have RingCT if it is supposed to be your major interest.

Spelling mistakes in your presentation, GUI wallet which doesn't work, no premine but you take 6% of each block (ok with that but need more guarantee), no information about who you are, about where the money goes (investment in the project?), a basic name which doesn't fit to a coin... Be careful...

Asked for some assistance - 4 days ago - when the coin was at 100 sats...

Now it's down to 21 sats.

can't get into their chat channel either... which is good, cause I'd just be talking shit about their coin anyway.

I hope it goes to 1 sat and stays there.  Shitcoin deluxe.

The project isnt even 2 months old yet but far from a shitcoin. Devs are very active and working hard on issues and new developments. As far as the price dropping, with such small volume it would take nothing to send price back to 100 sats. And the issues with joining chat have been fixed so youre welcome to come talk shit if you want...

I apologize if I seemed hostile with that comment, just used to too many people calling everything a scam and creating FUD without any justification. Devs werent aware of the issue with joining the chat room, and have been very busy dealing with issues on the project. There are lots of good folks in the chat to help with any issues you might have, so feel free to voice any issues you are having and the community will do their best to help solve them. Some frequently asked questions:

Will Ombre change its difficulty algorithm? If so when? How do I get ready? What pool should I mine on to be ready? What software should I use to get ready?

Yes, Ombre will change its difficulty algorithm on block 72,000. You have until then to get ready!
Ombre will update to using CryptoNight Heavy.

If you are a just a user of Ombre, ensure you have the latest release of Ombre before the fork.
https://github.com/ombre-projects/ombre/releases - CLI
https://github.com/ombre-projects/OmbreGUIWallet/releases - GUI

If you are a miner make sure to contact the pool operator you are mining at to ensure they are using the latest Ombre binaries. Check to make sure your miner is compatible with CryptoNight Heavy as well.

My wallet is stuck on block XXXXX/70,000! I'm stuck at 99%! I'm stuck at 1/1 blocks synced, something is wrong here! How do I import the blockchain?

Your wallet is stuck because your node has downloaded blocks that aren't good or useful. The best way to fix this will be to delete the entire blockchain and sync from scratch using the newest updated software. The CLI wallet also comes with a Blockchain importer that allows you to import a copy of the blockchain
like this
https://infinity-pools.cc/blockchain.raw
And by using this command
Code:
ombre-blockchain-import —verify 0 —resume 1 —input-file blockchain.raw

If you need help with this process, please join our Telegram chat so we can assist you.

Should I buy Ombre? Why should I use or care about it? What makes Ombre different?

The question of if you should buy Ombre or mine it is really up to you. Ombre promises a fast(est), cheap, payment system while still keeping the strong privacy of other coins like Monero. In the future it will be easy to turn store of value coins like Bitcoin and Monero into Ombre, saving you time and money. If you think that is something worthwhile then keep an eye on the project. Ombre has big plans. We just need a little bit more time.  Smiley

Thank you all for your interest in Ombre! If you have any more questions, or if I missed anything please feel free to let me or anyone else know.

Unfortuntely it is not enough to be private. Do you plan to implement any functionality of smartcontracts? Or it will just coin?

Could you make some comparsion with another Cryptonote coins, it will help to se the difference.

Thanks

Our hardfork to cryptonight heavy and larger transaction sizes was a success ! Now we'll focus on releasing the Android wallet.

We also release 1.4 which is available for download now. This release fixes a lot of the synchronisation issues people were having.

To my knowledge, there aren't any plans to add smart contracts to Ombre. Whether or not it will happen in the future is anyone's guess.

Ombre is about the fastest, stable coin on the market currently. There was no premine. Ombre has software in the works to reimagine Mobile payments. Fees are cheap. Ombre is a pretty good currency.

We don't have any plans to integrate smart-contracts in the near future, however, I'll quickly mention some of our current and long-term goals.

=== Some Current Goals ===
***Note that these are not all of the projects we are working on right now, just some I felt like mentioning***

*We are currently working on a mobile app unlike the mobile wallets of other cryptos. We aim to abstract all of the complexities of using a cryptocurrency. We aim to let anyone benefit from Ombre's fast, cheap and private transactions, but without having to understand, or even think about, the underlying technology. As an example, you will be able to essentially have a balance in your wallet in USD (or whatever currency you want). If you want to transfer X amount of USD to your friend, you simply click a button saying transfer X USD to the desired person on your friend list (or by the destination's username). Without getting too specific, the app will securely and quickly handle all of this by automatic conversions to and from Ombre. This removes the need for trust in a central company (ie venmo/paypal), would be essentially free (tiny fee) to use by both parties (currently paypal makes their money by charging the vendors, not the customers), and gives you complete control over your money. There would be no need to wait 5 days to withdraw your funds from the app and wait for them to be deposited in your bank account (as is the case with Venmo). This app could appeal to everyone outside of the crypto-community, from college students sending each other money, to (hopefully, eventually) institutions using the platform to accept payments.

*Of course, we will also have a standard (but heavily optimized) mobile wallet targeted for experienced crypto users, that want complete control over their node. One of our core developers actually also created Sumokoin's mobile wallet (Sumo's wallet is actually published under his Google Play developer account!).

*Its also worth briefly mentioning that we are also actively researching various optimizations related to cryptonote coins - some of these could have drastic impacts on performance.

*We are adding more functionality to the website. It will be much more informative, and will have more useful embedded resources.

===Future Projects We Are Considering===
Please note that this list is not close to being comprehensive, its just a small sample!
Also these projects are not in active development yet, they are still in the planning and design stage.

*We are researching a better solution to ASICS than cryptonight-heavy. I personally believe that cryptonight-heavy is simply a band-aid rather than a permanent solution. It definitely will be ASIC resistant for a few months or maybe even years, but theres nothing about the algorithm that makes it financially impossible to develop an ASIC for it. The main protection it provides right now, is that current ASICs aren't compatible with it, and the time (and cost) to develop a new ASIC is relatively large. Thus, we are exploring options that would permanently prevent ASICs from being able to mine the coin (profitably). A hurdle with this, is that any algorithm run on a GPU or CPU can inherantly be performed better by an ASIC - the question is how expensive it would be to make.

*This is a long-ways away (1y+), but we also aim to build a 'debit card' that would be linked to your ombre wallet. I won't get into the details about how this would work right now, but essentially, it would allow you to buy things that require FIAT payment, using a card that automatically and instantly converts the correct amount of Ombre to FIAT. Imagine not worrying about the complications of using a credit or debit card (overdraft fees, withdrawal fees, having your funds frozen, etc), while still having access to all the benefits and conveniences associated with credit/debit cards.

======
TLDR; We are currently working on the essentials to make sure our underlying tech is rigid, and we have all the software needed to use the coin normally. Once we have the foundations working rigidly, safely, and free of bugs and problems, we will move to our next stage of development.

The following is just my opinion. If we can successfully show that Ombre can be used just as easily as FIAT, while also being safer, private and faster, we could potentially to revolutionize how society views and uses currencies. I hate using buzzwords such as 'revolutionize' or 'disrupt', but given that this could fundamentally change how currencies work in society, I think the buzzword is appropriate Smiley

I just wanted to share all of this, so that the community knows at least part of the vision of the project!

I apologize for the quality of my writing right now, I'm very sleep deprived!

At least, don't use their official pool. Always unstable, expensive fee, and
no reliability of payment transaction (see my post above). Be careful of scam.

The Ombre team has been working really hard behind the scenes to ensure Ombre is a solid currency for the modern age. Regardless of price, we believe you all will find great use in Ombre. With use case, comes adoption.

Enjoy the ride! It's not over yet. Ombre has big plans coming soon.

where is good pool? i can't connect to ombre.infinity-pools.cf

https://ombre.bathmatminingpools.com is updated post fork.

Some features:

Low fees (0.5%)
Low min payouts (10 OMB)
Payouts every hour
Supports regular addresses, payment ID, and integrated addresses
Worker stats
Email if worker(s) stop
PPLNS payment system (rewards loyal miners)
And much more!

itry bit this pool not use TRADE.ogre payment address- Why?
adres is : casiLpKfELY6hyxUqS1zYjjAMTSWrcUm5Cpc1bSdwNyCEmP2ii8EfVWLvvjysm2YXBXM2vGvpkGUs42 RD1ihi9uDATCqggNAmat9Pt1uM5PXY

when i send on this adres adres is ok but pool say wrong adres

Never mine straight to an exchange. You must mine to your wallet first, then send the Ombre to TradeOgre.

why? pool suport exchange. Trade.ogre not block mining to exchange.
i mining other coin direct to trade ogre last 50-60 day and all ok

now all work. i mistake with diferent . i write .200000 and corect is +20000 aftre address.

::::::: Small dev update!

Hey folks!  We have planned the following work for the upcoming 4 weeks:

Create a wallet node & release the Android wallet beta version

We are making progress with the Android wallet and plan on releasing a test version within two weeks (plain APK) and a beta version within 4 weeks (play store).  We enhanced the ombred daemon so that wallets can provide the node the viewkey and let the node only return blocks that have transactions for the viewkey during sync. This drastically reduces the sync speed and data consumption by a 100x.  However this approach does give a lot of trust to the wallet node and so we will likely make this synchonization method option so users can chose to sync with or without viewkey.

Owner: @sadbatman

Enforcement of authentication between GUI wallet and wallet RPC daemon

The GUI wallet runs the wallet RPC daemon in the background. There currently is no authentication enforced by the wallet RPC which is a security issue. We will extend the RPC daemon and GUI wallet to enforce proper authentication.

Owner: @crypto_sr

Whitepaper on [Suspicious link removed]pression

We think there is a lot to be gained with [Suspicious link removed]pression and will research this topic by writing a whitepaper that also takes things like bulletproofs into account.

Owner: @crypto_sr

Wiki bounties

We created a wiki and would like to collect the knowledge within the community in written form. We will create bounties for people to write wiki articles on topics such as, how to recover your wallet, how to export import a block chain, how to run a testnet, etc

Owner: @bluecore

So stay tuned and we'll give an update on progress within two weeks!

Thank you for confirming on Telegram that you have been payed.
The casi addresses are not supported by the official pool which is why you had a delay in the payment.  This was also announced in the telegram group but you seem to have missed this.

You were banned because you were spamming the telegram group. Next time please try to be a bit more patient.

For everyone not being paid out on official pool:

The pool has a very high percent of network hashrate so it finds blocks really quickly. As a result the payout cant keep up with the rewards.
It will be fixed soon, and in the mean time try other pools to split up hashrate among the network.

All: we're going to terminate pool.ombre.io, which has been a problem child from the start, in favor of the other (more stable) pools available. The dev team simply does not have enough time to deal with pool management in addition to development of new features and helping with technical issues.

It will be closed within 24 hours so please migrate your miners to a different pool

All pending balances will be payed out.

It says "not enough time", not that they are not able to. I'd rather have the devs make the choice they are making now, i.e. spending their time on developing the coin. That's where we get the value. So, what would you rather have: a coin actually worth something or a dev pool? Easy choice, right?

It's a matter of priorities but I admit we dropped the ball here. The best decision was to close out the pool.

This wasn't run by the devs as a group. It was just run by me personally.  The pool had a bug that caused it to accumulate a 100K OMB backlog which I'm paying out of my pocket to get all miners payed.
Going forward we recommend to use the nodejs-pool code instead of cryptonote-pool.

I have not yet fully understood this coin mining system, but it seems to me quite interesting. perhaps, it is worth dwelling on the consideration of this strategy in more detail.

anna ask, is there will be available mobile wallet soon?

Yes !  With some luck we will make it available in beta within the next two weeks.  I have the android wallet working and made the first payment with it yesterday. It uses viewkey synchronization and anyone who has used the sumokoin wallet (which I launched months ago) or moneroju will highly appreciate the gained performance in synchronization (and extreme data usage reduction).

Running a wallet against a remote node that is outside your control always comes with a risk.  We have setup a wallet node for OMB users to synchronize against but everyone is obviously free to setup their own wallet node (which is simple and documented) to use it with the mobile wallet.

Stay tuned!

The problem is that devs does not have enough skill and knowledge to fix bugs of the source code
and does not have enough skill and knowledge of network and cryptocoin.
Too low level...
Stop copy and paste, and study harder, devs. Otherwise, stop the project. That is best for you. Cheesy

If you still can't get the current wallet to work, try using the previous release, this works for most people. There are some bugs in the current release that we are working hard on fixing. The current version should be patched and fully functional soon.

This project is an indirect fork of Monero, its a form of cryptonote currency. Some of the positive features include its strong security, privacy and intractability this are known features on Monero transfered to OMBRE. The name "Ombre" is French which means "shades". Our priority is to revolutionize the cryptonote protocol.
What makes us stand out is that we make use of 60 second block window. This means your transactions would be super fast. We also guarantee top privacy to users. We are not in competition with any cryptonote because we consider them as partners rather than competitors.

I think the Current Supply is 14.5m(14.8M now). 1 billion is total supply after 20 years of mining.

When will the wallet be off of maintenance in TradeOgre? It is very important that people can move coins in and out of tha exchange. Dev, you've gotta fix this with the exchange or people will lose interest with Ombre.

any news about exchange?

Same as always..."maintenance".

Still, the coin trades a few thousand units nearly every day/every other day at TradeOgre.
(like 3 to 5 dollars worth of volume)

A block is still getting mined about every 60 seconds (avg), day in - day out.
A full block is worth about $0.03 usd right now w/OMB @ ~14 to 15 sats.
Can't really dump it anywhere at the moment. No incoming or outbound at TO.

It's like having coconuts on an island. Trade them for seashells until the rescue team arrives.

Maybe Gilligan and the Skipper will get their sh.t together one day.
It took 15 years last time. Patience is a virtue, I guess. SS Minnow Rules !!

I don't think so. AFAIK, @sadbatman created Ombre and did not seem take profit from the coin. He did not claim much about the coin which is totally different than most scam coins do. He could not continue to work on Ombre because of his illness. Hope the coin can return to exchange, I am trying to help. You can follow recent changes on github or ask your questions in https://t.me/joinchat/GS1FBBHCq6u-LdMIUoCjOw. You can claim the coin is not so alive but you cannot claim it is scam, hope you accept the difference.

Ombre is still in development. It is terribly unfortunate that sadbatman cannot continue his work. We all wish him the best and hope he recovers. With that being said, the some members of the community have spoken with sadbatman and he agreed to let someone else continue the work. yoosofan, thank you for your efforts. We have additional people who are working on resolving the security issues so that exchange wallets will be reopened and coin development will move forward. If you wish to support or contribute to these efforts, please join us on Telegram. https://web.telegram.org/#/im?p=s1301720931_1908432649426058015 Progress updates will be shared there and posted in this thread as well.

Attention!

Ombre is taking a big step forward in a few days. The rebase is complete and Ombre is set to fork on block #797770 at approximately 7pm CST on September 20th.

The algorithm will remain cryptonight-heavy for the time being. This fork addresses security issues and allows us to implement additional features in the near future.

You can find the latest code releases at https://github.com/ombre-project

We had to change some of them because we did not access some of them. The coin funder and developer got ill and he could not continue; so gave Ombre to community. Personally, hope the first developer gets fully healthy and can come back and help the project again.
