I think you mean how greedy humanity has become. Greed certainly isn't limited to this community and certainly existed a long long time ago here.

Greed? This is capitalism, its BUILT on greed.

Anyway, sweet bait and switch. They could just as easily limit registrations. Wont be back and I'll tell everyone how shitty they are.

I dont see this so much as greed as much as people being irritated because of an unexpected change that cost them value. People connect to pools with the intention of seeking mining profits; the information that CEX communicated (the promotion) was used by people to make investment decisions that may ultimately prove unprofitable. Im sure we are all appreciative of the fact that they had the promotion in the first place; we are just frustrated that such a large change to an informal agreement would happen without prior notice. I would much rather see them completely stop the promotion rather than harm their finances, but a little prior notice could have saved a lot of heartache. Also, while I understand the precaution they are taking to not dominate the network, and applaud it; the fact of the matter is any one could have told CEX that all of the ltc mining community would attempt to participate in this promotion. It is borderline foolish to have been ignorant of this. This is also bad from a customer relations standpoint; in scenarios like these were you don't have a choice but to defy user expectations about something, you usually apologize profusely and try to accommodate the user as much as possible with respect to the issue (the loss of income to CEX because of the promotion).

A change with no prior notice (the lowering of the bonus), and a subsequent modification of THAT change (the payout tiers), along with a "Thanks for your understanding", is not that. From a business minded viewpoint I condone the decision to alter the promo, but this was simply not handled like it should have been with respect to the customer.

So for all that would cry greed, I have a proposition for you. You can travel to my house (at your expense) and have my car for free; but when you arrive I will give you my bicycle instead. How would you feel about that?

So, not having much trust in CEX.IO after the reward shenanigans, I finally get a few litecoin accumulated in my wallet there and go to do a test withdrawal only to be met with the following error:

Code:
New accounts are not allowed to withdraw funds in the first 48h

Inspiring confidence every step of the way, aren't they?

I'm pretty sure that's standard, don't be too alarmed. Should be fine once your account gets past the time restriction period. But yeah, I've never had that great of an experience with Cex either.

Standard for what, to pull a Gox?

I never had a legitimate pool hold my funds for 48 hours before being able to be paid out. The ones that did have any trouble usually soon went under.

In 48 hours they can be holding a lot of coins with all the hashrate they pulled in with the already dubious promotion, assuming most accounts are new like mine.

Hey, don't be greedy, they gave you (some) free coins Grin

Really, think about it - it's a pyramid scheme. They cannot possibly pay you twice the amount you mined, unless (a) they put their own money in it (unlikely) or (b) they wait 48 hours for other newbs to mine enough coins to pay out the first miners. And we wouldn't be surprised if the 48 hours turns out to be a moving target too, right?  Cool

Trust me, that clause has been there for a long time. It's in their TOS and I remember when I signed up like 4 months ago the rule was in place. So if it makes you feel any better they didn't add this clause suddenly just to scam you.

By changing the terms, they are already pissing off a lot of miners. It doesn't help their case considering after the promotion ends, they will lose at least 90% of their hash rate instantly.

Have fun collecting our scrap amounts of mining fees when we will all switch to next profitable pool. Just make sure you don't change the fee rate overnight, after already determining one, on the very few stragglers who remain to make ends meet after this half-ass promotion.

Miners came because of profit and I'm sure they will leave because of profit.

The difference between your analogy and what is actually happening is that it costs you very little to nothing to redirect your miners to a different pool. Comparatively, a plane ticket or x hours of my time driving to your house would cost a lot more and hence have a right to be upset. A better analogy is that someone walked up to you on the street and decided to give you some money for free. Next they decide to give you less than they proposed but still money for free. How much of a right do you have to complain when it takes absolutely 0 effort (in your case minimal effort) and your getting something for nothing?

However, that being said I do agree with you to some extent that changing the rate without notice is a rather dick move, but eh your still getting more LTC there than you would anywhere else.

I believe he was referring to people that purchased rig rental contracts for this promotion
