 Dear user, after more than 12 years in operation FreeBitco.in has made the difficult decision to shut down because of widespread abuse across the website.

 If you are a genuine user, please do not worry - your funds are safe. We are currently in the process of sifting through genuine users and abusers which is taking much longer than expected because of our tens of millions of users.

They had many, many months ago to post that message, return all the money to the people, and shut down the site, but they didn't because they probably thought people wouldn't be able to obtain any relevant information about the whereabouts of the site owner or at least who he might be. Now, with this information surfacing, they're posting this message on the site and, to buy time to get money to pay people, they say it will be a slow process but that they predict they will enable withdrawals in early 2026. Honestly, it's very obvious these guys had no intention of paying and shutting down the site so soon, but because people are getting close to them, they're now starting to fear being caught and arrested.

If the price of Bitcoin fell enough it could mean it makes sense to undo any harm done prior as the growth would outweigh the cost to pay for that.   This is presuming the website name and domain have a worth and so to the traffic, all ongoing viable revenue being wasted is at some point why that scenario could be viable even if improbable.
  Also Im not expecting Bitcoin to fall far below the 200 week average so I guess it wouldn't be cheap enough to revitalize the operation etc.

I don't think they have any desire or intention to return to normal operations and stop essentially stealing money from visitors to the site. At the moment, all their actions, as well as their inaction and lack of response to a multitude of questions, confirm this. Apparently, the funds coming into their accounts are also leaking out: mixer-withdrawal to the exchange-withdrawal of funds.

Yes, i also do not think that they will return the money. They seems to trying to get a fair exit now but this is not how you shutdown a legit business, first scamming people and then saying that they will return the money slowly in 2026.

This is most likely to be the case, and I wouldn't be surprised if they declare 99% of all users to be abusers, as this is one of the easiest ways for them to disappear and avoid their obligations to users. Ironically, scammers will be looking for abusers.

Yeah i think that the investigations about the owner of the freebitco, have lead to this descsion of closing down the site. Ofcourse when the identity is revealed then its hard for that person to remain hidden and keep scamming.

Having seen similar scams over the years (without, fortunately, being directly scammed in any of them), I would bet that they say they will process withdrawals so as not to cause panic or a rush to take legal action, while they shut down operations and simply disappear before most of the affected customers have time to react. Unfortunately for those affected, it seems to me like a textbook scam move, although I hope I am wrong for their sake.

It's sad that this story ended this way. If it is true that they are closing because of widespread abuse, they should definitely need to handle it differently.

And to be honest if they are based in India I don't know if the complaints will be enough to make their authorities to act and force them to refund the funds, if there are any left...
