Both have good potential but in market cap and the great drive in the crypto market and king of altcoins is Ethereum. I suggest you to split your investment of 75% to Ethereum and 25% to TRON or you can split 60% to Ethereum and remaining 40% in to TRON.
If I were you, I would invest 50% into Bitcoin, 25% into Ethereum and remaining 25% into TRON.

I suggest you better buy Ethereum, I think Ethereum is more promising, Ethereum is the best coin after Bitcoin so I'm sure the future of ETH is brighter than TRON.

Much better to buy Ethereum than Tron. If you have a business and willing to adopt the technology of blockchain then ETH Smart contracts is way more better than TRX and it's proven 100x. Buy ETH for now!

If i'm looking to make my first crypto purchase, which one would you suggest buying and why? I love ETH because it's established but still not as expensive as BTC, but I also am hearing about TRX (TRON) nonstop...
If lets say I have $500 to start with, what should I buy and why?

I further recommend you to buy Ethereum because Ethereum coin quality is better than TRON.
Ethereum is a stable coin and is perfect for long-term investments.
I am sure if the gain earned will be more Ethereum than TRON.

Spend $350 on Ethereum and $150 on Tron. It would be a smart decision as you should always diversify your risks |

I think it would be better to buy and trade tron (TRX), because tron (TRX) has the cheapest price and fast price fluctuations.

Diversify and buy into both, 250 each or adjust according to your risk level. If you're more of a conservative investor then buy more ETH than TRX, if you're more enterprising then buy more TRX than ETH.

ETH for me is a better investment than TRON. Despite the mainnet launch, TRON hasn't lived up to its billing. Lost money in the build up to the launch as I was expecting a bullrun in its price, but that never happened. Invest in ETH and you'll hardly regret it.

I would make a choice depending on the future use. If I had planned to invest this amount in an ICO, I would have chosen to ETH.

First, never buy this or that crypto just because "it's price is lower than btc". Look at market cap and the number of coins in circulation (i.e. ripple won't pull a 10000x just because it's worth $0.50, when there are 40 billions of coins in circulation compared to the maximum 21 millions bitcoins).
Second, for choosing between Ethereum and Tron you need to think about what kind of investment you want to make. The Ethereum foundation has a history for being a top cryptocurrency and delivering with their roadmaps/objectives, while having probably the best developers in the crypto space (probably along with the bitcoin Lightning network devs), while Tron has a great marketing team and Justin Sun, known for pumping his coin.
So it appears quite obvious to me that if you're looking for a long term investment you should definitely go with Ethereum, while if you're just looking for a quick pump, wait for this bear trend to stop and invest in Tron when you think it will pump soonish. I wouldn't put my money into Tron long term.

I think you should invest in both, but if you must invest in one of those, then both are actually a pretty good options (you can decide that on your own). If it's me, I might invest 80% in tron and 20% in eth, because eth has too much market capitalizations already, not saying that it couldn't go higher but looking at the long-term, I guess tron would be more profitable for various reasons. Especially since the CEO of tron is a very influential person, and a chinese. But it's all up to you!

eth is the first altcoin I invest, my advice you should buy eth than TRX (TRON) because eth has a good future to be a good investment long term or short term.
