you need to consider the EV of spending all of this time securing ur bitcoins vs their actual value. if u only have 5 bitcoins, who cares about all of this security?

+1 I don´t think this is for people who is just trying bitcoin with 1 or 2 coins. But as any other kind of money the system itself should provide the security, otherwise the "normal" people won´t use it as have been said already.

Trust has been broken far to many times to trust one individual person or entity examples being worms wallet stealers mtgox breechs paypal fuxing coin pal MBC fiasco bruce wagner blah blah blah blah
I have over 6000 btc just sitting on 2 thumb drives one in my home safe one in my safety deposit box ..
I only trade now locally both buy sell and exchange for goods and services and thats what you guys should be encouraged to do as well
bitcoin exchanges just centralize a decentralized currancy just like mining pools ect.
the only "nice thing" about having a exchange is allowing joe blow investor the ability to drop 5 kUSD on the market and purchase our "ecurrency" based on the work of others

I trust people because I'm not greedy. In fact, I couldn't care less if someone stole bitcoins from me -- it's just a game to me.

For you maybe. For people who put real life sweat and tears into this thing only to have it shat all over by some internet turdslurpers it's not even close to funny.

Bitcoins are a game if you only use income that you can afford to lose. I have made money, lost money buying and selling bitcoins just trying to promote and help the bitcoin system. Buy now while its low with money that you can afford to risk and there wont be much of an issue, it can only go down to 0 or up up up and up higher.

Using BTC is inherently very risky. I think the majority of people have been victims at this point.

sorry, I can't agree: people can be convinced and deceived, yes that's true. But they are only if they want. Of course I started mining on a greed basis, but not only: I also wanted to "play" with an alternative currency and support the deploy of it. In the begining, yes, $18/btc it's quite atractive, but I can't say I ever were a victim or deceived... I knew perfectly there were a massive risk and I was willing to take a chance.

I feel like this is a fairly common concept of the internet, I can't believe there are still people that can't grasp the fact that they should keep their personal information private.
