Unfortunately whenever there is money involved there will be people out to get a piece of it unlawfully. There is also many that go about it the right and legal ways. Knowing which is which is not always easy. Sometimes the people you think you can trust turn on you, yet other times the ones that look like they are shady as a hundred year old tree are safe as houses. I spose it comes down to not always judging too quickly or you may miss out on opportunities. Think of it this way, I am sure that when bitcoin came out many people claimed it was just a scam with someone that was going to disappear with their money. Yet here we are and many people have made profits on the way. Still others that had the chance and decided it was too risky missed out.

So everything in moderation, do your due dilligence but do not jump to conclusions, you may miss out on great opportunities.

Great well rounded view of the whole situation.

I'm gonna jump on the thank train too.  When something is too good to be true, especially in the Internet world, it is.  End of story.

I already wore a tinfoil hat.  Now I feel like I need to wear two. One for me and one for my other hat.

Don't always trust yourself either. Especially when talking about money/investing. You are driven by emotions, which is bad.

You can never be 100% sure, if you want sure and protection, go for paypal (it offers some kind of real life protection and insurance). Altough I have traded with some people in btc world, and they have been honest so far, but I always choose people with many posts from forum or trusted websites like mtgox
