The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Some coins have announced they are forking.  ZEC has not made a final call yet so it is all up in the air.

Any news about quantity of Z9 asics for batch 1?

DO try waiting to ask that 'till after the announced shipment date (in JUNE).

Yep, the big announcements by the coins and miner volumes will be revealed as those first batches ship and hit the network.  That is likely when the big drama will get spun up.

I am going to guess 20-25k units.

The question is how much of that hash has been at play and how much new will hit the network with the June batch. Subsequent batches are still on the assembly line so impossible to know the final result.

I wonder if we will see a ZEC difficulty drop for a short time when they ship. Or bitmain may be smart enough to send several waves so that by the time later shipments arrive a few days after the first, the initial shipments will be up and running with their new owners. This would make it hard to know their real network hash footprint.

I've done the Math, Their are plenty of decent equihash coins to spread out the hashrate. Komodo, zcash, ZenCash, zclassic, bitcoin gold, bitcoin private and so forth. Not a lot of them will fork off soon or at all.  Sounds like they will take their time like Zcash by end of year to fork off. Most of them gave no response.  GPU mining will die off of the equihash algo but by no means this will turn into a D3/A3/L3+ brick miner which only had 1 good coin to mine.

Actually on Nicehash (and doing some tweaking) you can still turn a decent profit against elec. expense on the D3. I mean, not a lot daily or anything, but worth turning back on in comparison to energy and profit of any other miners from last year (or even the A3) with exception to the S9. It’s definitely more profitable than the L3 right now. But yes, ROI is unlikely, I just mean if you have one laying around...

That's not how i read it, but than again, English isn't my native language. As said allready, for me it sounds like this:
- Zooko doesn't agree to the fork, means no fork at all
- But he did agree to algo tweaking, something that can done without forking
- This means again, as soon as this tweaking happens, asisc on zcash algo are finished.

While i wrote allready on the zcash forum that no further discussion is needed, no answers, corrections, whatever since than, which again makes me believe that it's just as i readed it, but again, i could be totally wrong, but doesn't sound too good.

Are you Pro ASIC or Pro GPU.  On Zcash Forum, you're marketing the hell out of ASIC's.  On here you appear to be Pro-GPU.  WHICH IS IT?  Are you really Pro-ASIC and trying to discourage others here from purchasing the ASIC's YOU want to buy?

By the way, I'm "ProwdClown" in that link you provided.  I think you know me from Zcash Forum because you and I were going at it before I was banned.  You - Pro ASIC and me - Pro GPU.

That CRAP "Root" (Moderator in Zcash Forum - https://forum.z.cash/u/root/summary) pulled with me (ProwdClown) earlier by banning me from the forum is pathetic.  Here are posts made in the forum in question:  https://forum.z.cash/t/let-s-talk-about-asic-mining/27353/2593  Zcash may go up in price but it will lose traction with adoption.

When you say, ".... but it doesn't sound too good," are you trying to imply you're pro GPU?

EDIT:  Zcash Forum banned me till May 21, 3018.  NOT 2018.   THREE thousand eighteen.  ROFL....  Looks like you have full reign to spread your Pro-ASIC BS without proper rebuttal till 3018.

How you like this announcement, BITMAIN?   ROFL....

Can anyone pls comment on official ZEN statement on ASICs and changing algo to ASICs resistant, but in a short quick way.
whats the TLDR version?

Thanks.
Potential Equihash Algorithm Change Preparation

Modifying ZenCash to use Equihash-144-5 is doable, and the software development team has started identifying the specific work that would need to be done in order to create and test this change. It would be a Hard Fork change, and for optimal success of the Hard Fork, it would be best to implement such a proposed change as quickly as reasonably possible before too many ASIC miners take over the hashrate of ZenCash.

In theory all the Z9's are already running and have been counted in the hashrate.  That's what everyone says, that they have been running for months.  So why are the DEVs getting their panties in a bunch?  When Batch 1 is released it shouldn't raise the hashrate at all correct?  It's batches after that we have to worry about.

Also, if they change the algo, I don't think it will take long for BitMain to release a new miner.  They seem to have building miners for GPU only coins down, and it they don't Baikal will.

In theory all the Z9's are already running and have been counted in the hashrate.  That's what everyone says, that they have been running for months.

They have been.  Everyone purchasing them are about to get what Bitmain has had running on their shelves while they replaces the Z9 "mini" on those shelves with Z9 "beast."  However, they only turn on enough of the Z9 "beast" to equal pretty much the same hash rate they had before taking Z9 "mini" off the shelves to ship to those purchasing them.  THEN [Once at least 50% of their Z9 "mini's" are sold, they begin slowly turning on more Z9 "beast" but not too many...  They don't want to discourage noobs from purchasing their Z9 "mini."

So why are the DEVs getting their panties in a bunch?  When Batch 1 is released it shouldn't raise the hashrate at all correct?  It's batches after that we have to worry about.

Mere speculation...  Mainly based off your first comment about ASIC's "already" being on the network.  Cause they ARE on the network.  You'll see if and/or when forks are implemented and watch the hash rate plummet.

Also, if they change the algo, I don't think it will take long for BitMain to release a new miner.  They seem to have building miners for GPU only coins down, and it they don't Baikal will.

This is just to do something to try to keep ASIC's from pushing out GPU's all together.  This may be good for 6 months.  If ZEN and other Equihash coins were to do this every 6 months, it could discourage BITMAIN and other private ASIC manufacturers from wanting to try this again.  R&D on another chip would be about 6 months for BITMAIN.

Have a look at PROG PoW.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6B-ZCyP6K8&t

This is the last time I feed any of your trolling.

How's my "Zooko Fan" doing today?  And YES, he is treasonist to his community he's losing daily.  Good riddance!

You and I or anyone else can debate ASIC-Resistance here and now if you like?  I'm game for it...  Cause many here who purchase this Z9 are about to get burned.  Not by Coins forking but by Bitmain selling them gear that cannot compete with what they have in secret.  The word "mini" behind Z9 is there for a reason.  Don't you think?  ROFL...  If another manufacturer [Besides Bitmain] is claiming 40k sol's with their miner, what do you think Z9 "BEAST" will do?  Hmmmmmmm?

I've been in mining since the S1.  Had the S3, S4, Spondoolies SP-20's, Bitmain S5 and S7.  Believe me when I say, 'I've had my experience with BITMAIN.  My last order I had with them (42 x S7's the end of 2015) will be the last order I will EVER send to them or any other ASIC manufacturer.  ASIC's are a plague to the industry.  BITMAIN is a plague to the industry.

EDIT:  By the way, for the record... I said, "That's an ugly mug."  Not what you said.  I decided his mug wasn't as ugly after all.  Simply treasonist.  Most importantly, I decided not to let my emotions get the best of me and resort to the vitriol you mentioned.  I simply decided to stick to the truth:  Treason.  Can I not change my mind?  Even if I'm wrong on something, can I not admit I'm wrong and correct my error?  My error was saying, "That's an ugly mug."  Decided it wasn't ugly and decided not to let my emotions get the best of me.  So, I edited the post to keep it clean by moderating myself.  That simple.

Zcash never created an official forum on Bitcoin Talk.  I wonder why?

Another possible scenario - and one that is much smarter/devious - is to only use a fraction of a batch of ASIC miners before selling the rest of the batch to the public. The network hashrate will go up once people start receiving their miners and no one will be the wiser.

Also, Bitmain would most likely stick to mining the coin with the highest network hashrate with their ASICs - ie, ZEC in the case of Equihash - whereas the public will mine various coins, resulting in massive network hashrate increases for those smaller coins. See, for example, DERO with CryptoNight - it went from a pokey 5MH/s to eclipsing 600MH/s - yes, it's network hashrate exceeds that of ZEC (I consider CryptoNight and Equihash comparable because you can get roughly the same hashrate with the same hardware).

EDIT - I just noticed @dmwardjr posted a similar analysis...

It will raise the hasrate and the diff. shitmain will release much more ASICs than they've ben mining with, because they'll do more $ selling the ASICs rather than mining themselves.
