What pool are you mining to get those zen rates? I've been getting 1.0 ZEN for the last 7 days.... on 1 Z9 mini on both Zhash and Suprnova running about 16k sols at 737 O/C. Impossible, all first batch owners will break even before the next batch ships.
I was batch 1 but I didn't get mine until the 3rd shipment of batch 1. I missed the second shipment by 2 minutes (FML). Anyways... I've been mining since June 26th, but only about 25 full days. Paid: $2078 US / 0.21379627 BTC [$9719.533460523 BTC Value @ Time of Purchase] Import Fees: $65 (USD) PSU: $40 (USD) - I already had the PSU, but for the sake of break even calculations I'll put it in Total: $2183 USDThat said, I repurchased my 0.21379627 BTC when BTC was @ $6741 so technically I only paid.. Paid: $1441 Import Fees: $65 PSU: $40 Total: $1546I've been tracking my profits daily. I calculate breakeven in two ways. 1 - Historical which is based on my average Zen/Day over the last 7 days. 2 - Instant which is based on only the current days Zen/Day. | @$2183 | @$1546 | Historical | 40 Days | 20 days | Instant | 34 Days | 17 Days |
So based on these numbers I will personally breakeven sometime between 8/7 & 8/20 given that I expect my daily profitability to go down. This falls either right before or right as the second batch ships. This can change a lot based on the price of Zen. I've been traveling and haven't had time to figure out if I should switch given the recent reduction in the block reward for miners. Will consider that this weekend. I should also note that I am using my Z9 Mini to provide heat to my water heaters heat pump which has reduced my daily water heating cost by $0.55 - $0.75 depending on the day, but on average $0.61 / day. So at my electricity rates, the Z9 only costs me $0.40 / day to run. My Zen/Day has been going down steadily. Date------ | Zen/Day | 27-Jun | 1.3032 | 28-Jun | 1.3603 | 29-Jun | 1.383 | 30-Jun | 1.4762 | 1-Jul | 1.5212 | 2-Jul | 1.4962 | 3-Jul | 1.4312 | 4-Jul | 1.4921 | 5-Jul | 1.5317 | 6-Jul | 1.5048 | 7-Jul | 1.4721 | 8-Jul | 1.442 | 9-Jul | 1.4814 | 10-Jul | 1.4773 | 11-Jul | 1.4066 | 12-Jul | 1.3858 | 13-Jul | 1.3414 | 14-Jul | 1.3097 | 15-Jul | 1.3306 | 16-Jul | 1.2652 | 17-Jul | 1.2555 | 18-Jul | 1.2519 | 19-Jul | 1.212 | 20-Jul | 1.1556 | 21-Jul | 1.1875 |

We reached out for a testing unit. Hopefully we'll get a response and post some results for the Z9.

Reach out to whom? Bitmain will never give you a "testing" unit. The Z9 ASIC has been out there for a month now and people have already posted results and reviews. Sorry to say but what you are trying to accomplish is unlikely. Please read through this thread and do the necessary research.

Sorry to say but what you are trying to accomplish is unlikely. To their "global marketing manager' Nathaniel, nice guy but very direct. The mini has been out, not their "new" z9, if there is a comprehensive testing review on this unit maybe a link would be a great asset to the community. Five pages through google search I haven't seen one though, just speculation like this thread. Bitmain will send marketing units out on new releases but understandably you have to have a very large audience. Please read through this thread and do the necessary research.
You should heed your own advice but I'll pass this solid piece of information along here. Thanks.

I am debating if I should buy the 2nd batch, since I have the $250 coupons?! What are you guys doing with the coupons? I have free electricity included in my apartment cost so I would be happy if I could just ROI in half a year. But I am afraid those will become doorstoppers eventually?!
With free electricity and coupon i'd give you the green light....sounds like zcash is not gonna fork now so you'll always have a coin to mine. Even though all the z9 ever made(and the faster more effecient ones coming out) will be on it with you, you should be good with the free power and the low consumption on this device to at least ROI and not get your apartment supervisor angry at the high power bills(for awhile anyway). But yeah this guy will be a big paper weight in 3-6 months, so if you expect your free power situation to change i'd say no. What are you talking about? Zcash just did a vote at their Montreal conference and will be putting ASIC resistance on the back burner. https://www.coindesk.com/zcash-governance-panel-shoots-research-asic-resistance/By the time they get around to it, ASIC mining will have a strong foothold and the GPU miners will go searching elsewhere for the few scraps left; if not shutting down entirely. Since most of the mining hash will be derived from ASICS, I am sure they will get increasing push back from their ASIC mining community. Who is going to go along with turning their coin making machines into bricks? Same reason s9s are becoming big paper weights...too many s9s and better newer models coming. Also I’d expect all equihash coins to fork including zcash eventually so ya big paper weight one way or another. Yep, do not underestimates asic manufacturers such as bitmain's ability to spam the market. Considering it takes very low electricity to even make a couple of dollars a month, majority of these machines will not break even I believe. Impossible, all first batch owners will break even before the next batch ships. How so? It is making only 425 USD per month now at 10 cents electricity and it was around 600+ a month back? It is going down fast as it is.

My Zen/day has dropped but the value has gone up. My Zen/day has dropped about 25% in the last 30 days. If it keeps dropping at that rate I'll break even in another 50-60 days. That is at full price, but given when I repurchased my BTC I should breakeven faster.

So are the rumors true that Zcash won't talk about forking until next year? Any others holding off or are the rest of them abandoning ship? Would be an interesting turn of events if we get a large enough window to ROI on these. The full size Z9 doesn't quite measure up to the Inno rig, but then again for the cost difference?

Most of our sales are still the mini as there is only speculation on the "full" Z9. Buyers know what the z9 mini can and cant do as well the next batch is slated to ship sooner than the Z9.
Z9 is a good buy but the Z9mini is a safer choice when looking at these two models by bitmain.

I am starting to second guess my choice to not buy more mini's. I was worried about the forks, and in the back of my mind I think Bitmain is about to release new sha256 and scrypt miners. So I thought I should hold onto some cash in case that happened. But I thought for sure Bitmain would be dropping new miners on us by now since all their coupons are expired.

There will be asic friendly coins to mine with these. Look at the X11 algo, and cryptonight. you just might not be able to mine the coin you would have preferred or bought the unit for with future forks. If you bought the z9 "full" you'll be fine, bitmain will at minimum deliver their base spec, just with the mini we know how much we might be able to OC.

I don't think you should second guess, as someone above mentioned. Zencash returns have dropped about 25% in 1 month, this is only with the Inno A miners out and Batch 1 Z9 minis. Come late Aug. when Batch 2 drops and more inno miners coming online, and everyone switching to the same algorithms, i can imagine the returns dropping alot. Most of our sales are still the mini as there is only speculation on the "full" Z9. Buyers know what the z9 mini can and cant do as well the next batch is slated to ship sooner than the Z9.

ZCL is best bet for equihash for the last week. Then ZEN and ZEC. haven't looked at the asic friendly list though so not sure what the Z9 can hash and cant.
