Greetings earthlings!  Grin
Earthcoin still is the best name for a global coin, the logo and name are great and better than the rest imo it's a better name than bitcoin for the future. So much coins with strange names in the top 50 why... I don't understand it. This coin could and should be in the top 10, is it not because there is no dev activity or because it is missing the latest developments?

So, I have a small scrypt miner, like I'm sure a lot of people do or can get, and want to point it to something.  Is this coin active?

well, I'm mining it now, and dl'd the wallet.   It says "no block source available" and it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Did you try with the addnodes from this post above: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=379236.msg16078658#msg16078658 ?

Sorry for my rant.  I could take time to edit or just delete it and maybe give up on this coin.  I am a "green" advocate so looking
at coins like this.

I'm kind of a newbie.  Granted, maybe there isn't much money in pursuing this for anyone, but I like when coins/teams are aimed
at newbies.  I think I added a node before, is that when you download a dat file separate from the wallet?  I'm embarrassing myself
to make the point that it would be good to have a self-contained wallet.

Google says:

The easiest way to connect to a node is to go into the debug window on the wallet client and enter the following command:
addnode ipaddresshere add.
addnode ipaddresshere remove.
Open %appdata%
Add or Edit .conf File.

Ok, I like learning tech stuff so I am game for maybe trying that at some point....but I've consulted/taught computers to mom and pop
businesses since 1994 and I know most people will not adopt something this complex.

What google says pretty much sums it up.

The problem is that when a coin gets older all the hardcoded nodes that should get a new wallet get started respectively connected and synched have eventually disappeared or changed ip and are no more reachable.

You then need just one node that is connected to the network, once you connect to such a node/wallet it will tell your wallet which other peers it is connected too and your wallet can try to connect to these too. Whenever it connects to a new node/wallet both exchange their list of peers they are connected to and these are cached then on your disk so that when you start your wallet next time your wallet knows a lot of peers to try (and hopefully connect quickly).

Try Googles suggestion in the debug window of your wallet and type:
Code:
addnode 162.243.35.214 add
addnode 146.0.32.101 add
addnode 194.135.85.120 add
addnode 199.126.179.110 add
addnode 158.69.27.82 add

Thanks, I'm just mining it now a little at suprnova.  I won't need a wallet/address right away.

Well, I've been looking at SHA256 and Scrypt coins now for a while, trying to find which one to get behind, and so far, it's easiest, with the best reward with the best pool in my opinion to mine Earthcoin.   Also, the infrastructure and amount of work involved in creating Earthcoin mini-economic ecosystem must have been huge.  Of course, not knowing what it takes to really create a viable business network, people must have been fudding it for a long time.

I don't know anything about the team or the details of the history, but it looks like something went wrong about a year ago so now many of the companies that are here:  http://getearthcoin.com/business-and-trade have pretty much vanished.  I would suggest removing them ASAP
and starting over on that page, because coins are made to be spent.   Small looks better than dead.

Also, some kind of development report should be given in this thread, kind of like minutes of a board meeting.  Who is in charge, preserving anonymity if desired, but how can we know putting effort behind this coin will be worth it?

Where are they going to do that?  They aren't using twitter much.  Maybe they should talk about being
bought out?  I really love how they created something but doesn't seem to be miner/marketplace driven.
