I'm surprised by how much BTC this forum has gotten though donations.
Most of it was received when the price of BTC was very low.

Do you know any new VIP member or Donator join the forum recently? 50 bitcoin is quite a large amount of money.
I believe that one of the bitmain accounts is the most recent donator account and got the status fairly recently. I'm not sure who is the last VIP account however I believe it has been a few years since the last VIP received their status.

Spondoolies-Tech paid 10btc to get a title (while owing massive amounts of money -_-), BitmainWarranty paid 10btc because there were multiple phising attempts every week and fluffypony paid 10btc to increase monero's credibility.

Its like you have two settings:

    1) Whining
    2) Whining about Spondoolies owing you money.

Yeah I highly doubt they get many forum users who got into bitcoin any later than 2013 are willing to donate 10 bitcoin's, and 50 I doubt ever happens these days.

Most of the Donator & VIP titles we see knocking about are likely to be either very, very early adopters when the price was low or very, very rich people who have more money than sense Cheesy

Or scam artists using previous scam proceeds to build fake rep to make more successful scams...

Its not viable to spend 10 BTC for a tag. They would need to spend at least another 4-5 BTC for trust farming purposes etc, and scamming something over 15 BTC, is an impossible feat these days

Hmmmm that's a good point, a Donator or VIP tag is very likely to persuade gullible noobs to trust them unfortunately.

This forum is like a minefield, scammers & scum bags everywhere. You have to be so careful.

ya it is true most donator are from starting of btc time, but their are some donator who are running gambling site so they can afford to give 10 btc for donator id. they are wealthier and by donator account they can improve more for their site.

Yeah, although even most of those cashed it in when btc was <200. Bitmain did it to prevent phishing scammers (there were several each week) and Spondoolies did it to get max rank.

They have collected donation since Aug 2011, I think bitcoin was trading at $4.72 something then.

Maybe the admin should create another category, like Junior Donator or something, to 1 BTC donators.

Theymos has stated a few times that the forum does not even need donations any longer. The forum makes a killing from advertising these days.

Depends how long the forum development takes, at the moment the forum gets about 50 btc per month in advertising which is far less than the developers are costing. Their pay is also $ tied so shifts in btc can really increase the cash drain.

I don't understand why the Bitcoin donation amount isn't lower. Nobody right now would donate 10 BTC if that's equivalent to over $4,000. I personally only want to donate about $50 as that's all I have to give monthly. I wouldn't just give a payment once. I do feel as though it's more genuine when it's a monthly payment to show that genuine care for the community and how well it's thriving. It's wise to take support from time to time but demanding it is a different situation and I'd never condone that. Bringing myself back to the donation status, I don't feel beggars can be choosers. If we donate to you, you should take what amount we can give.

I believe you can still donate lower amounts.

There is no minimum threshold for becoming a donator.
There's just a minimum threshold for receiving the "Donator" title.
Feel free to donate $50 a month if you like.

As it is right now, I personally would not donate to the bitcointalk.org forum anymore.
The main reason being that the forum is already sufficiently funded by selling ads.
