If you are paying more than 50 bucks per month for hosting... you're either heavily invested in uptime or crazy Shocked Wink
Also I think it would be a good idea to allow people out of newbie jail before the 4 hours is up by a small donation (~1 BTC)

Not that it is relevant to this topic, but...
Hosting is provided free by MtGox, from what I understand, same as with the en.bitcoin.it wiki.
And you can ask to be whitelisted in the noob forum.

I'll whitelist people for donations.   Smiley

Actually having bitcoins, and being willing to pay to bypass the restrictions is just as good a yardstick as a few posts and some time spent online.

If you donate 10 BTC (which pays for about a month of hosting), you get donator status
Sure you can ask, but payment is more direct. I agree with BadBear in this aspect.

(Damn, it's too late to buy back those 4 hours in newbie jail...)

That information is outdated.

Hosted by MtGox, who use Prolexic for DDoS protection. If you were asking in order to obtain the same protection for your own use, I must sadly inform you that it will cost at least $10k/month. Or, if you were wondering why a DDoS attempt failed miserably, that would be because Prolexic knows their shit and does it right.
