It is great, that it possible to implement POS.
As we all talk about promotion, implementing POS can be something big with a lot of interest.. like 2nd big start or second level of coin evolutioning. Of course, for now almost everyone can mine some coins and POW is more than enough, but in the meantime, when cap is rising so far, POS can be good locomotion for stimulating people to buy amounts of PRT. Well, they can do it anyway, but, you know, when you bought some money and they work for you - it`s a good illusion and NXT coin all depend on it. So, such stimulation in future can give us best from both worlds. Also, there is none, or a very few coins with CPU only POW + POS. So, it is good to be unique $)).

Also, with wallet implementation, people are right - better less changes and frequent updates. People think that something happens - it seems, this psychological "illusion" support great beliefs in them.

And kids )) IT would be nice something, that let kids to use PRT... For example - parents buy coupon code in app store with some prt for use in kid`s application.

It's possible to add POS at any time... but, it does also add a fair amount of complexity to the wallet code.  Maybe something to think about longer term.

I took a stab at tweaking the reddit CSS:  http://www.reddit.com/r/particlecoin/
It's not great but a start.

It seems the blogosphere is starting to get interested in Particle now, based on my inbox, getting a lot of requests for info, backgrounders etc. for articles and posts.  Very cool!

I'll be tied up most of the day today, but will have an update later tonight.

Thanks!
Can switching to POS solve our problem with mining PRT( low hashrate, little amount of miner) ?

It is about "today" (personally, I didn`t see such problem, or didn`t understand it  Smiley

POS may help, when POW for average user becomes unreacheable. Anyway such addition make sense in long time term, for example, when 2/3 all PRTs are mined.

PoS is a good model that I had suggested some time ago.  I don't understand why more coins don't implement it.

+1 im sure it will help particle in the long run, since the only way to move upwards is for particle to get creative.

I don't think it will be long before Particle (PRT) is trading at z4 levels to BTC (ie 0.0000x) and at strong volumes.

Dykask,
You seem knowledgable so I'm asking...
If PRT's PoW algorithm is quark, why is PRT GPU mineable?

Because someone wrote smelterMiner... But it is questionable thing and for quarks only. At least, it was... What exactly used for PRT GPU mining? I found nothing...

I'm glad you answer that questions!   I haven't dug into the mining code for the quark ... but in general the idea behind scrypt was to prevent GPUs from being used.  Programmers are often very clever.

The reason you don't see PoS implemented more is because it is a lot of modding to the out-of-box bitcoin code to do it.  You could take something like PeerCoin I guess and base it on that.  But, its a little more complex to implement it.

I would say we can keep PoS on the table as an option, but further down the road once we get the current Qt wallet updated and the new advanced wallet out the door.  Need to space these major features out so we have realistic time for development ;-)

So, the question for the community is how would you like to adjust the block reward algorithm to encourage continued mining.

We could bump it back up to 180 coins, or 360, for a longer period of time?

Let's tackle the block reward first.

Let's tackle the block reward first.

Do you know what would be really cool? To play into the idea of particles..

Change the block reward to the atomic weight of a random element from the periodic table each day. Only once for each one. Shuffle a list then each block record is the next atomic weight on the list. Then those who keep track will be able to "guess" what the next block reward will be by which atomic weights are left from the periodic table. Once all the elements have been cycled through, shuffle the the list and start again.

Pick one element to always start from. That will be the signal that the cycle has started over again. Particle would both be unique, interesting, and for those that want to play the game, they work out when best to mine Particle. Or they could always mine it and get an average reward over x amount of blocks.

Just a thought.

I would say that 360 is the minimum. Ideally I would say 780 to attract more miners...

For the period of time I would say at least 3 or 6 more months.

Whatever block reward you choose would have to encourage mining over the looooong term.
No miners == no transactions!

EDIT:  or increase MAX_MONEY by 50% [ to compensate for the initial miners IPO ;o) ] and have a fixed block reward for x amount of years (no bonus blocks).
