Would you trust Geico any less with something as serious as insurance because it uses a funny gecko in its ads? Harris Bank had "Hubert the Lion" for many years. You can have both integrity and an emotional connection. Thing is, I doubt if Dogecoin would be successful without the dog. I'm not saying we need a dog but we do need to humanize the mysteries of cryptocurrency and make it approachable for the average person. [/quote]
Absolutely, but with an astronaut the group of people you really connect to is quite limited. It is not that I have the perfect solution because people's minds are very intransparent. Did you believe in DOGE coin? I didn't too much... That makes me wondering. I am just trying to imagine what I would think if there were dogs and cats on the next dollar bills. Maybe an astronaut. Once I think about it I realize that this would not change the acceptance and usage of dollar bills. That in turn shows me that it must be something else that's important. Of course, this is quite a harsh deductive process since no matter what you would print on the dollar bills, they would not disappear as they are so fundamental and established. Nevertheless (imo), usability, integrity, usability, integrity, usability and integrity are the things that drive the value to the stages we want it to reach. We all are not talking about the next 50 million dollar cap, right? We want more. 50 million with a fun coin is possible. DOGE has proven. 500 million with a fun coin? I don't think so. We should not be blinded by the accelerators that made DOGE coin thrive since this might also limit the prospects to the degree they are limited for DOGE coin. When I came across this coin, I really liked what I read about it. If I had seen astronauts and other comic figures, I might have stopped to read the thread right away... I full understand the picture with the whale. That's a clever one, that's great. I am not a bad sport, I am just trying to understand people's minds and how we could address them in the most effective way. Though, DOGE coin still cofuses me in my thinking process.

Ok I just hatcheted this together for a reference point. 30VTC For best #betterthanbitcoin meme. Will put it to a vote. This is not a winner! But you get the idea, and if someone want to make this concept prettier I kinda like the reference...bought a lot of platinum futures last week when I wasn't busy flippin' bits for verts. PS- For the FB posts from yesterday, whilst you didn't follow directions exactly I have the list and will send out in the next couple hours, my social media people explained that I would be better off buying some good crack to smoke with the money than the rent a page scheme so I bowed to their wisdom. I do appreciate your enthusiasm though and it was helpful to see the idea implemented for perspective. I like this idea Any takers? I bumped to 30VTC first place 20VTC second place 10VTC third place. You can post them here and the vertcoin facebook page if mods are cool with it. https://facebook.com/vertcoinHere's my entry for it, I can do some revisions on it, if you have anything particular in mind. Let me know what you think. I also have a higher resolution, if you are also interested. Let's go vertical! This is great slogan! Vert, the new standard/normal/generation/order/paradigm/ new foundation (for a better and fair world) etc

i'm wondering about something. I'm mining on p2pool, current node http://p2pool.etyd.org/However, i'm also seeing that there are a lot of blocks found in the last hours, when i check my miner i see shares being accepted. But, i havent recieved any transactions for 8 hours already but in that timespan about 14 blocks have been found already. Either i'm missing something or i'm not getting payed all the time. Anyone who can explain? VTC add is VjJgr6QcKfBG65paE6mcaWq1k8bURQ6dfb Payouts on p2pool are not regular a on MPOS. However, you will get what you mined. You can configure variance for more regular payouts You can find information on how to configure variance (difficulty adjustment) here http://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171/

Anyone who can explain? You only get paid if you have shares in the sharechain. Click on Graphs and find your address, you can see a history graph of how much value you had in the share chain plotted over time. If you run less than a couple MH you might try mining on my east node for now, I'm running a test patch to p2pool to lower variance for smaller miners. (Your shares are worth less value but you find them more often, so payments are more steady. You don't make any more/less income though.) Pool link in my sig. (West node is not running test patch.) US is a bit far from the EU, so better not do that But this is what i'm seeing in my miner: This is the payout scheme for me btw:

Just a thought on the ELI5 explanation of the merits of Vertcoin -
Vertcoin is designed to be only produced by off-the-shelf commonly available hardware, which ensures wide adoption and decentralization.
Large scale operation of the Vertcoin network and minting using specialized hardware is impractical and cost prohibitive, by design.

Payouts on p2pool are not regular a on MPOS. However, you will get what you mined. You can configure variance for more regular payouts You can find information on how to configure variance (difficulty adjustment) here http://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171/The info on your site though only talks about ADDR+diff, which is the pseudo-share difficulty used for various things like having more data to plot and deal with old asicminers that can only accept diff 1 work. It doesn't affect real shares or the sharechain. If you want to reduce payment variance, you have to use ADDR/diff which sets the target difficulty for you to get shares onto the share chain. Setting it to /.00001 will guarantee you are always working on the lowest possible target (the minimum share difficulty reported by the pool), but it also means you are overriding the dust prevent code in the node and might get really small payments.

some points from http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/1xddaq/ideas_suggestions_etc_going_forward_my_take/: - Yes, Vertcoin is anti-asic.. but nearly 100% of the population doesn't care The average person doesn't care about ASICs (or even know what they are). We have got to move technical speak out of the Vertcoin vernacular if we want to really connect with people. What does Vertcoin mean to the average person? People care about jobs, money, security... What can Vertcoin do about this? (Much of this is what cryptocurrency can do about it.. in this way we are making people associate these neat features with Vertcoin.. So instead of distinguishing Vertcoin from Bitcoin we are equating "the new money" with Vertcoin.
- Organization: The first thing we need is a way to get organized. A subreddit doesn't do the job. We need a way to organize tasks and manage time. To see what other people are doing and to see what needs to be done. This should be something like Zoho where we can not only post tasks with due dates (and penalties for being late) but also create help desk tickets for bugs.
- A way for people outside to connect. Let's take a step beyond what is expected with a coin and really connect with people on different levels. The vertcoin website should be the main portal to the vert world. How about a toll-free number and support email prominently displayed? Most people won't call.. but it instills trust and gives the impression that you're here to stay. It's $5 a month. Putting an email address at the header also makes people feel secure.. to be able to contact someone if they have questions. And how about the ability for them to easily open a support ticket in case they have questions? (This could be handled by multiple people)
- -The story. Learn from Dogecoin. Why is Dogecoin so successful? Because it is the first coin the creates an emotional connection with people, and makes the difficult seem easy. We need a way to do both. How to emotionally connect? Stories. What is the story of Vertcoin? How are we going to connect with basic emotional needs? Bitcoin? Story. Litecoin.. not really. Dogecoin? Story.. And Vertcoin? No story yet.
The story could be a re-hash of the parts of the Bitcoin story that have worked for it. What makes Bitcoin interesting to the average person? What do people care about? Bitcoin means freedom. Ok, so the story of Vertcoin is we're building a system to make you financially free. We are your heros and you can help us help you! - I would suggest the following: 1) develop a mascot that looks like Astroboy.. Young, cute, big eyes, friendly-looking, with clean light pastel colors. Put him in a little astronaut suit. He is from planet Vert and here to save the world with vert coins! He will save the world by saving jobs and making you richer. The financial system needs to be fixed. Vertcoin is the one to do it. Give him a personality. He is allergic to bullshit and sneezes when he hears it. And he likes to dance.
Im sorry, but a cartoon figure is not what Vert wants as a mascot if it wants mainstream acceptability. This is not professional. It worked for doge because it was marketed to the internet crowd. I would prefer to see Vtc as respectable and serious. Our competitors are Btc and paypal, not doge. +1, I think we need something a bit more serious, I believe that we need some kind of mascot for Vertcoin, but we must be very careful about what we choose. Remember, this is a very young coin, and we are building foundations for its future now... What happens now in the early stages will decide what will happen in the long run. Similar thing to what Boris was talking about when he was pushing for some of the tech features to happen in the earliest possible stages of the coin's existence, once you have 500 million $ market cap and the coin becomes known and popular, it's difficult to make significant changes to any aspects of it.

I just had a cool picture in mind: the word "ConVert": a message like "ConVert now". "Con" is latin and means "with". For those who do not know that. Like that slogan. Maybe too complex

US is a bit far from the EU, so better not do that But this is what i'm seeing in my miner: Look at your address in the Graphs page of the p2pool node you are mining at. If they use a custom interface without the normal per-miner graphs, then you might be out of luck to see the history. When your miner sends in a share like "950/500" I believe that is the pseudo-share difficulty. For the share to actually count as a share and make it on the chain, it has to be higher than the target difficulty the node is assigning to your worker. That will normally be much higher than the pseudo share difficulty. But if you only reported real shares, you wouldn't be able to have graphs. So the smaller pseudo-shares get reported. If you want to try an experiment without using my node, change your payment address to ADDR/.00001. This will change your share target to the lowest possible value at any given time (the share difficulty reported on the node for the whole pool). You will find a lot more real shares, but they will have smaller value. On the Graphs page you'll see your value in the share chain get much smoother (peaks/valleys will be more averaged out). If the minimum payments you get are too small, you can increase the /diff value to something higher.

If you don't consider Doge your biggest competitor aside from Bitcoin then I think you're really missing the point. In the background, they are working on some serious merchant and consumer-related things that will be announced shortly. Paypal is in a different category altogether, and Doge now processes more $ than Paypal. Your competitors are whomever the consumer has a choice between to give attention, time, and resources to. It is unfortunate that we can't pick our competitors ourselves. Remember when mobile phone manufacturers laughed at Apple for making a phone without buttons? They didn't think consumers wanted it. Or a computer that wasn't black? (How could that be taken seriously?) If consumers want a cute mascot to go with their cryptocurrency then give it to them. It doesn't matter what we want. The market will decide, and for what we are doing the market is the average consumer. Merchants will implement what consumers ask for, not the other way around. We must understand that cryptocurrency is complicated to understand for the average person. It's a complete mystery. Yes, we can be serious about it. But I'm afraid we will not attract the kind of people that will actually make the most use of it.

Agree. Bottom line is this. There is two completely different markets we are looking at; Internet culture, and the mainstream. The mainstream needs something that is tangible, secure, and solid. The check mark design which i mentioned in my previous posts is the absolute best for merchants, and 1 has already incorporated it on his website (ref: a few pages back). But a cartoonish figure would not work in that regard. Where it might work is for the "secondary" internet arena where we can make it viral. At the end of the day, we might be able to have 2 different marketing strategies "targeting" both demographics. This might be tricky but its possible with careful consideration.

And if you take my statement a few minutes ago, by no later than the mid term, usability determines the value (and profitability for the miners). This is why you could print the biggest shit on the dollar today, people would of course keep using it. Nobody would hold too many DOGE if there weren't any ideas for its usability to be announced... The best way to make it successful would be to create demand for it. If you just put this into the market as another alternative, it is a roulette game at maximum for the Vertcoin to become successful. If you create demand by putting into a favourable position for purchases (faster, easier than other methodes), that will boost it.
