Please help fund an important VTC project

I have just filled nearly 30% of the funding goal for this:

http://vertcoinmarket.com/campaigns/vertcoin-logo-refinement-corporate-identity-guide/

Please can some of you help finish funding this - it's super important for the future of Vertcoin that we get a consistent identity out there, this is the first thing we must do before we can start building the press packs, infographics and other materials that will let us reach out and tell the wider world outside our little niche about Vertcoin and it's benefits.

I hope a lot of you will contribute - it won't take a lot, another 50VTC is all that is needed to fully fund this. Even if all you can spare is a few Vertoshis, every little helps

This is a very early thought/concept: is it possible to setup "exchanges" connected to every Vtc pool? So, the pool will have a bunch of Vtcs sitting in reserves that everyone can see (avoiding mt gox transparency problems).

Miners can elect the percentage they wish to keep and the percentage they wish to make available on the exchange and what crypto they are willing to accept. The percentage made available would be sold by the pool and then paid to the miner in the crypto of their choice.

Over time, miners can also add bank details to accept dollars via the pool/exchange mechanism, to sell Vtc for fiat.

Just an idea. Feel free to point out obvious problems with this setup.  Smiley

That is a VERY good idea. I like it a lot. But how could we make it secure?

This is something that needs to be coded right away. In light of the Mt Gox scandal, we can de-centralize exchanges and re-establish the public's trust.

Bitcoin holders would trade their BTC for VTC in droves. (That will be good for 3 weeks until a new decentralized exchange comes out for the new kid on the block.. no fun intended)
With regards to Lloydie's suggestions, I think multipool.us already offers something approximating this arrangement - you mine, choosing what coin, then later you can convert it into BTC.

However, it's a massive leap to go from running a pool like this, to running an exchange for fiat. Any time you interact with fiat, by nature, you're playing it by their rules, and that means regulations and paperwork - most pools (especially the smaller ones of which Vertcoin has correctly encouraged a plurality so far) won't be interested in taking on, or capable of handling, the hassles associated. "Decentralizing exchange to fiat" is much easier said than done; you can't code your way out of this, because what's stopping it isn't a computer problem, it's a regulatory one.

Guys I haven't got a response yet to this post, but I'd really like to....

"We should launch small conferences about VTC at universities in all countries we can find a representative for. When I talk to people who have "heard of it" but do not really know what it is, they have a lot of questions. And they tell me that they would love to be part of this project in terms of investment or whatever. In most cases they have the feeling that this train is already gone. To be honest, I am not even sure what to tell them. I don't know if investing in BTC is a big thing anymore since competition is rising. If there was a cool informative event at my university, I would go there. It could - or even should - start with cryptos in general and it can well end with VTC and its advantages. Although technical, 45 minutes can be enough to explain everything that's important. I mean, you are not talking to idiots there (at least most of them are not). Also, the probability that some people will attend this at university is quite high in my opinion.
We could work together on a presentation with very nice explanations and many more features. W could also convince people to mine it by explaining how face to face. Our representatives could work as contact persons in their environment.
Not all people are coming to this forum. We could pick them up where they are. Any input on this?"

Proactive education will prove very valuable in my eyes. And once the people who do not know cryptos are well informed about it in general and especially about VTC might not want to become loyalty with another currency afterwards as long as we present technical progress and the things we say turn out to be true and comprehensible. I'd like to hear your opinion!

Alc raised some great points. I think one of the key weaknesseses in bitcoin is the large regulated exchanges. For example, Bitinstant chose to be registered as a money transmission business. Therefore, AML and KYC rules applied to Charlie. However, at the other end of the spectrum, localbitcoin traders are completely unregistered. Why? Because they are too small and there are too many.

Now just use the same logical process with vertcoin pools being the mediators and the miners selling bitcoins like localbitcoins. It will be virtually impossible to regulate. There will be too many people in the world GPU mining, selling and buying vertcoins.

It will be what bitcoin was meant to be before big business took over.  Smiley

Now the first step is to enable miners to sell some of their vertcoins for other cryptos...

Hi,

Sorry I didn't get back to your PM about this - I have been so busy, but I think it's a good idea to have this kind of outreach going on. Like you said "I don't really know what to tell them" - what would be great is if some of you could work out between yourselves how to introduce cryptocurrencies to people who don't know anything about them at the moment. One of the projects we want to work on in the team itself is getting together a site that helps new users get started, and brings together a lot of information that, at the moment, is split up all over the place and is hard to find. Having the two things going on in parallell (a community led effort to find a "standard" way to introduce the subject, and the official site doing the same) will be interesting - I'm sure we will get a lot of good ideas from each other.

Hmmm maybe stupid  quastion but what does it really mean for the vertcoin ? Just some new logos and CORPORATE IDENTITY GUIDE? Whats so important about a corporate identity guide?
Maybe i will spend some vertcoins on it when it is really important for the future of the vertcoin!

Well, it's not my place to tell you where to put your VTC - there are other worthy projects also ongoing on vertcoinmarket.com

I think this is an important project - without a consistent public face for Vertcoin, we can't effectively start to talk to the wider world outside our little niche. If we want to be able to communicate with people who are not currently involved with cryptocurrencies at all, with journalists, bloggers and other people who can help spread the word about us, we need to have an identity - so we present ourselves in a consistent way that is not confusing, and that gets our message across clearly.

I agree, but as much as we need an official logo and brand material ASAP it also needs to be right and shouldn't be hastily chosen. There are more logo designs coming in every day and I've asked a graphic designed I know to submit something as well. I think we need to wait a few more days and gather all the designs and have another vote.

I'd be happy to contribute to this project, but I think we should vote on the logo first.

@chrisbuchner would it be possible for you to submit just the logo design first then once your project is funded continue to create the design document with whichever logo is chosen?

To check how cryptsy is handling deposits i send each day a few VTC.
Last deposit now more than 18 hours and still not received.

Also Withdraw BTC no longer possible since more than 1 hour.
Always internal error.

Stop trading there. There are like a million posts on here complaining about cryptsy and you keep trading there. Coinedup is fixed up, it's kind of lame but I have done large volume, no lost transactions and a couple hours slowest confirm. Much improved this week and anyway you should be holding vtc so serves you right. Kidding I don't know that really but move or zip it, it's your own fault from here on out.

I've been using bter for VTC and am very happy with it.

Hi jpeggt,

Ultimately, although we're interested in input from the community on logos, the decision is not one best made by the community - what people who are involved now like (ie. miners and people knowledgable about cryptocurrency) vs. what a wider market consisting of non-technical people who know nothing about cryptos will like could be two entirely different things. I personally like the current logo - it's nice and simple, and it looks clean and elegant IMO, I also think that remaining consistent with the logo we've had up until now is best, even though I do like some of the submissions from the community I have seen in the thread.

I think if we all want to the see the most success we can for Vertcoin, we should defer certain aspects of our public face to people with experience and expertise - obviously the final decision is up to Bushido, this is just my opinion.

Ok thanks!
When they dont reach the amount of 70 vtc will you get back youre vtc?

At the moment, that isn't in place, here's what the developer told me:

"The funds get deposited in a “war chest” and the community decides once a month for what project they should be used. We will have a preference towards charitable causes and non-profit projects that support the development of Vertcoin. Should this happen you’ll be kept fully informed of how your pledge was spent."

The vertcoinmarket.com developer has spoken to the developer of Moolah, and is expecting to be able to use the Moolah platform to put functionality in place to refund pledges if a project doesn't achieve full funding. He said hopefully within a few days, but I don't want to commit him to a timescale that might not happen (I haven't personally spoken to the Moolah developer about this) so I will just say it is in the works.

Good point.

I don't dislike the current logo, I just think perhaps its a little rough around the edges and a slight refinement would make it pop. I do agree that something completely different would be counter productive at this stage.

Guys who would like to work on a PP presentation that puts together the most important things about 1) cryptos at all and 2) VTC ?
To bring this 270 pages thread down to the core points and visualize it in some nice manner could be very helpful to those who are new and want to have a fast and informative picture about this. I think it should somehow imply that this is a train you can still get on. Anybody up for discussion? Maybe a few guys in a new thread on vertcointalk.org? I'd definetely make use of such a presentation!

We will have some refinement on the current logo along with proper corporate identity guidelines.

All this is in the works. Details about these projects can be found here:

http://vertcoinmarket.com/getting-vertcoin-ready-for-primetime/

Please keep in mind we need to have a broad appeal and while for example 3D logos are nice to see on a screen, they are not very pleasant on many other types of media.

I think if we all want to the see the most success we can for Vertcoin, we should defer certain aspects of our public face to people with experience and expertise - obviously the final decision is up to Bushido, this is just my opinion.

Good point.

I don't dislike the current logo, I just think perhaps its a little rough around the edges and a slight refinement would make it pop. I do agree that something completely different would be counter productive at this stage.

^ this. And it's exactly why I prefer this:

Just wanted to share this awesome work by LukeMaxwell:
The logo was originally designed by khanwaltman.

This is the kind of logo I could see in shop windows and as stickers on terminals etc. There have been some other submissions here but they look a little bit too much like they've been made by techie geeks (not an insult hehe) rather than experienced designers with an eye for UI / that sort of thing. This logo is clean, welcoming, modern, and friendly. It's also not a long stretch from the existing logo. It's just better. I appreciate the amount of work that goes into a replacement logo but I feel it's worth it.

This Cryptsy is a total failure, going to get my VTC out of that asap
EDIT: It would be nice if the major pools would make some news about http://vertcoinmarket.com/, there are big miners outta there who could possibly finance some of the project with just 1 day of mining or even less
