2. If I setup a p2p node for myself and mine with it, what is the difference between that and solo mining.  Specifically, is there a difference in the amount of coins I will receive?

You should make the same long-term as solo mining. However your variance will be a lot lower because you are sharing the workload with the rest of the p2pool network. Running your own node is kinda like solo mining and kinda like mining at a normal pool.

It's actually quite cool and worth it to set up. Smiley Try it out.

Note the p2pool-vtc distribution was updated today for a fork tomorrow as we correct some settings and improve things. The new fork is already live for people installing new nodes, but the bulk of the speed won't be there until tomorrow when a number of the bigger pools will move at the same time.

What do you guys think is the best exchange right now for VTC? I'm sending mine to Bter at the moment but some of the comments here don't inspire much confidence in it....

im using poloniex and bter. both are fast. no problems.

Weird thought maybe, but could the sudden increase in hashrate be the pandacoin crowd testing the settings?

(Everything about that coin feels wrong BTW... Hope for their miners' sake that I'm wrong.)

That sounds about right.

Pandacoin is saying they will use the vertminer so a lot of miners will be setting that up and then switching to Pandacoin pools when they go live.

We will know for sure if the hashrate drops a lot when Pandacoin launches.

impossible

I'm sure people will pump and dump it.

Read through the first 10 pages of their thread and I got the impression that's exactly what they're aiming for. Even though they claim the opposite.

They have 3% Premine -  That coin is going nowhere

The Jesuits = The Money Changers - Executive order 11110, Green Hilton Memorial Agreement, Global collateral accounts.. The US Treasury needs to print United States Notes backed by any physical assets; unlike this debt tool 'federal reserve note' printed by a private central bank that is 100% unconstitutional

First of all, I have to say that since a week VTC is my favorite coin. Before I was a fan of EAC ( still am a little bit). But EAC did very mediocre concerning marketing imo.
Doge showed us the way to go. Just become popular and then start building.
VTC looks extremely strong. But I see a big danger now Wolong is coming with his Panda.
Wolong is a rich guy who knows how to manipulate markets. He has connections in the east and the west and plans to promote huge. Panda is a good name in the eastern world and Wolong wants to create an eastern doge called panda. The guy seems pretty succesfull in what he is doing. Holding a decent amount of VTC it scares me a bit.
Using VTC technology, it's possible there is going to be a vtc versus panda war. I would not be surprised that todays dumps in VTC was mainly because of the coming of panda.
I am not sure if I will drop my VTC.
The way I see it; when panda fails, VTC will become HUGE. But when panda succeeds, what I actually expect from Wolong, then we might have a problem.
What do you guys think?

LOL so much talk about Panda.

Dogecoin ate into LTC market/mining/hashes by exploiting greed.

Pandacoin is being launched to specifically neutralize VTC's potential growth and or tap into nFactor followers. It is following the same cycle as DOGE/LTC cloning in every way except they are even announcing a big premine and will get away with it. Some guys follow that team like a cult.

Also, check out our new coin icons.

Cheers,

We are the smallest large pool so if you mine with https://vertcoinheavyindustries.com you can improve the network security without sacrificing variance! We find a block every 40 minutes on average so payouts are regular and predictable. I should also mention we charge only 1% and charge no withdrawal fees for both automatic and manual payouts except for the the network enforced transaction fee.

http://www.coindesk.com/asia-exchange-addition-dogecoin-price-surge/

And that ladies and gentlemen, is why we need to get ourselves on BTC38!

VTC seems to appeal to a different crowd those looking beyond scrypt ASIC...but the upcoming pandacoin seems to try to incorporate everything...Dodge that is ASIC proof?

But with 3 billion coins pre-mined...the rest of us miners will have to slog it out just to get a fraction of that. I don't know if it will be worth the hashes.

Definitely want to recommend this pool whenever its accepting folk. No latency, 0 rejects, and i can't remember the last time i saw a stale. Very fair and reliable.  I like how respectful it is to the current difficulty, and not just fishing for a million users.

ZeroCoin/ZeroCash - an on-blockchain mixing and anonymization service.

Is this for real? A lot of coins has promised this over the past year, and we have yet to see anything concrete. I know Zerocoin was discussed heavily at Feathercoin, but it was deemed to be too complicated and unwieldy.

If you can show some proof that it is viable I will invest big. I want to know if you have actually looked into it or somebody just told you he will implement it.

All I can say at this stage is, we have looked at the protocol - we agree that there are some challenges, but if Zerocoin doesn't work out for us, we will look at other solutions. We have discussed various options regarding the implementation, and working around some of the difficulties, and we will be looking at code and trying stuff out on the testnet in the next weeks. I won't go any make any commitments that I can't keep, but what I can say is if anyone is going to have this soon, it will be Vertcoin - we're making it a top priority.

Good to know.

Prices are quite attractive so I am slowly accumulating. I think we have not seen the bottom yet.
