OMG.

Already 5 Pages and people jumping on it like crazy!  Roll Eyes

Did any of you actually take the time to read up what an ASIC actually is?

It's an Application Specific Integrated Circuit. It means that it can only do one Application.

Yes it would be possible to have circuits for multible applications on one chip, like Sha and Scrypt. But this way you would sacrifice a lot of performance compared to if you had just build it for a single application.
No serious developer would develop such a chip, it would be utterly stupid.

It would also be possible to have 2 Separate ASICS on one device. But having this would also decrease the performance/cost ratio compared to having two specialized devices.

But well, its your money.

*Could also be that everyone in here is just sarcastic and I'm not getting it?  Wink

All previous versions of currency will no longer be supported as of this update
Make sure you back up your wallet regularly! Unlike a bank account, nobody can help you if you lose access to your BTC.

As far as I understand, it is possible.

Have a look into litecoin's source code and you'll discover sha256 operations.
https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin/blob/master-0.8/src/scrypt.cpp

Scrypt is an 'extended' sha256 proof-of-work you could say.

Scrypt has two parts. The first part, consisting of 1024 iterations of blockmix, produces 128kB (one megabit) of data, starting from a seed value.
Each blockmix produces 128 bytes, and the result is written to memory and also used as the in put to the next iteration of the blockmix
function. The result therefore is 1024x128 bytes, 128kB. The second set of 1024 iterations is used to reprocess some of the data. The second set of iterations occur in an unpredictable order:
the next block to be processed is determined from the result of processing the current block. The reprocessed block then overwrites its previous location.

Sandwiched around all this are two iterations of SHA-256, one used to generate the initial seed, the other used to generate a final hash value from the final state of the 128kB of working data.

So one could use the sha256-asic for both btc's and ltc's sha256 calculations, for scrypt you would just need some additional logic and memory.

OK, didn't know that.

But that wouldn't still mean that if you use it for BTC mining you would have a part that lies dormant. Making it inefficient for BTC Mining?

All previous versions of currency will no longer be supported as of this update

(...)
But that wouldn't still mean that if you use it for BTC mining you would have a part that lies dormant. Making it inefficient for BTC Mining?

If you focus on mining BTC *only*, then yes a part of your hardware (the scrypt logic) you paid development costs and production for, will never be used.
Like you buy a car for your dessert trip which can dive.

If you talk about the SHA256 unit itself, it's the other way around.
For BTC you can make use of the whole SHA256 unit, while for LTC/Scrypt you can only use a certain % of it due to memory requirements and additional logic.

Best approach seems to be making use of whatever is possible for Scrypt and use the remaining SHA256 unit for BTC.

Current software only supports Bitcoin and Litecoin mining.
As far as I know there's no difference, you get your work the same way and then you do your calculations the same way.
So this statement confuses me a little, as the only thing you would need to change in order to mine, let's say NMC, is to change the pool providing the work, no?

If I'm missing something let me know, please.

The chip supposedly supports dualcoin mode, though I'd imagine someone still needs to develop a miner that is compatible with that.

Here's my take: Jun Zhu is one lying, contriving, tiny Chinese dick cocksucker.

~Bruno Kucinskas
You know that being a racist asshole really doesn't make your other points more believable.  If you think someone's a scammer fine. But I'm sick and tired of the racist crap that gets posted here, this isn't stormfront you asshat.

Make your arguments based on actual merit instead of race baiting and you'll be a lot more convincing.

And by the way, how do you know all these Jun Zhu's are the same guy, there's probably hundreds of thousands of guys with that name.

Agreed. Any hard evidence?

Linked In has 25 Jun Zhu's, 7 in United Kingdom, at least 4 academics of that name, and 1 in Wikipedia.

You're serious! Tell me you're not serious! How does one consider that "Jun Zhu is one lying, contriving, tiny Chinese dick cocksucker." is a racist comment via a racist asshole, of which I don't have one racist bone in my body? The terse statement was only meant to drive my point home. That is all!

Now, for all those who still believe that our Jun Zhu is not one of the same behind those two domain names I've mentioned because there are like 25 other Jun Zhus, consider the following, and please read very slowly, for that's how long it'll take me to pen my thoughts to text.

Jun Zhu's first post as user dualminer:

New to this forum. We will have a ASIC USB DualMiner (for both Bitcoin and Litecoin mining) coming to you soon.

But, the above is a moot issue, considering the following of which Jun Zhu provided a few posts back:

Bruno Kucinskas, Your digging  in capability is impressive. Your logic of deduction (to reach your conclusion) is weak. Your language is uncivilized. But you did help us finding a web hosting problem of the website we haven't released to public yet. The www.mybitcoinrig.com was an old website, which supposes to be replaced by www.dualminer.com.

To everyone interested in our DualMiner USB product, the www.dualminer.com is still under constructing and testing for the coming product launching in US.

But, not moot in the sense that Jun Zhu came here and stated factually in his very first post as dualminer that he was new to this forum, hence the "lying tiny..." comment.

The same Jun Zhu, not some other, residing at 1485 Pine Grove Way, San Jose, CA, also owns the following entities:

Bruno, may I suggest that you reformat your original statement and remove references to his nationality. That would still drive home the point.

Understandably, when one member of an ethnic group fails to deliver or fails to satisfy (Avalon?) we tend to implicate everyone. That unfortunately happens when even a small percentage of a 1 billion population group does it.

There are at least 1 billion each of the following: Chinese, Indians, Catholics and other non-catholic Christians, Muslims; and I know all too well the stereotypes for each, but I'll not get into that. Not everyone is like that. A lot maybe, but not all.

I'll reserve the rest of my comments when I receive a sample unit, and I'll only talk about the unit.
