Hi

Sorry for posting this here (waiting for the 3-day delay in my account deletion on darkcointalk - it's complicated), but I requested coins from the faucet ( https://drkipn.com/test/faucet/ ) and didn't receive any yet. Is the faucet automatic or have I got to wait for someone to come along and attend to it ?

My testnet add. is XwkhtHMAevNX9RGYCGNcpjLdvs61t2mwi8 if someone wants to send me test DRK.

How does one test the new stuff ? i.e. if I do a transaction, where do you send the DRK and how does the anonymisation manifest itself ? Is it just that you look up the sending and receiving addresses in block explorer and block explorer doesn't show anything ?

Thanks for any tips !

That is a mainnet addy, you need a darkcoin.conf with testnet=1 on it, and when you start the client the splash screen should be orange and say testnet. When you do that your address should start with an n or an m and you can get coins from the faucet.

Ah ! Thanks. I didn't know that.

I'm using Darkcoin QT (Mac) v0.10.13.5-Beta. Is that the test RC5 client ? (Or test RC4 ?)

The Mac doesn't have a darkcoin.conf as it's a package. but if I dig into the package and find darkcoin.conf, then set testnet=1 it still doesn't put me on testnet when I restart.

This is the latest TESTNET wallet for Mac, version 6.

http://bamboo.darkcoin.qa/browse/DOD-DRKRC-36/artifact/QTL/gitian-osx-darkcoin-rc/DarkCoin-Qt.dmg

I am not a Mac user so I am not sure, but just creating a textfile called darkcoin.conf  that inside says testnet=1, and placing that in your data folder where the wallet.dat resides, should do the trick.

EDIT:  You need to create the textfile darkcoin.conf, inside the file just put testnet=1,  it is not there by default.

Looks like you didn't create a darkcoin.conf with testnet=1 as testnet addresses start with m or n, not x.

EDIT: I see I didn't refresh and saw this was already explained.

Hey - this worked a dream !

Created a new textfile with testnet=1 and saved it in:

home/library/Application Support/Darkcoin/darkcoin.conf

Now when I start the wallet I see a rust-coloured startup screen and all kinds of testnet stuff. Have also got a "Start Anonymization" button.

Thanks again for the help.

Now I need to investigate what "anonymisation" is actually. I mean, doesn it just mean that your transaction doesn't turn up in block explorer ? How do I actually verify that an amount is anonymised ? Do the funds just get "migrated" to a pile of new addresses with no trace of the original address ? (i.e. the one I originally 'received' the coins into from the faucet).

Well, many things happen, first your balance will be broken into denominations, like 1DRK, 10DRK, 100DRK, etc, this creates uniformity so that when you send a random amount, this amount is really the sum of many denominated inputs. Then each denomination goes to a pool where it is mixed with others people coins of the same denominations, and after several rounds of this and mixing with many others you achieve a high degree of anonymity.

To see the results you can send some anon coins to the faucet address and check the transaction on the testnet block explorer. Seeing all the denominated inputs coming from random addresses but amounting to what you wanted to send is awesome.

Edit: remember you are now testing with a testnet wallet so dont expect it to be perfect just yet, although is very close, there is still bug cleansing going on.

ok, my coins are now anonymised (just used the "Basic" setting for speed).

If I call "listaddressgroupings" from the command line, I can see all the new anonymised addresses. Block explorer confirms the situation whereby my original address is empty and the "fragmented" addresses contain the anonymised coins.

What I can't seem to find in block explorer is any link between the "anonymised fragmented" addresses and my original deposit address. Is that where the masternodes come in ? ... breaking that link and obfuscating it ?

EDIT: Hey - I need to go and get some tapas and wine for half an hour. Will be back to this asap - looks like fantastic stuff so far. Thanks for all the help in the meantime.

When your denominated funds are mixed by the masternodes, it grabs your and other's funds together and makes it into one big transaction that all of you group sign. This makes it equally likely that any of outputs could belong to any of the signers, thus the hard blockchain link is broken, and you're left with probabilities.

I've got players for Bitcoin and Litecoin on my site but since I add Darkcoin I am the only one who threw the dice Sad

Join me and make ME some profits

Fixed it for you - These "games" = SCAMS

Why? How you can justify it?

That's simple: Because most of the time I visit sites like this I get ripped off. SURE, I can make a deposit - but cashing out is a completly diifert story and most times NIL

this is nonsense, you cant blame others for your bad luck...

I will permit to quote here Flare`s response:

Flare: I think a mixture of http://jira.darkcoin.qa/secure/ReleaseNote.jspa?projectId=10000&version=10002 and Evans' last development update Smiley

Thanks for the share how many weeks until it is fully functional

The next 3-6 weeks will be spent creating the RC5 client which will have a few minor updates including some known issues resolved along with a basic gui that shows the current status of Darksend.

But its good to know that there is a 3-6 week timeline for creating it will look forward to more updates
