DarkSend Beta Version 2 is live!
Improvements:
  • Extensive DDOS/abuse protection
  • New testing procedures for all data going through the DarkSend Network
  • Much more friendly debug logging
  • Added "timed_out" status for getdarksendtxid (was hanging on incomplete even though DarkSend had given up)

When using DarkSend you must keep your client open, if you close it during the process the network will detect that you didn't provide needed information and charge you a fee for it. This fixes the exploit that was used against the system a couple days ago.

Also, open your darkcoin.conf, you’ll need to add the line: addnode=23.23.186.131.

If you have any issues checkout the troubleshooting section in the documentation.

Downloads and new documentation:

http://www.darkcoin.io/downloads/DarkSendDocumentation.pdf

-----

If you are running the beta, add that node and keep your client open when DarkSending!

I just got charged .25 for no reason. Had my client open the whole time. Can you not use getpoolinfo after you send a DarkSend transaction? I was wanting to check the pool status.

edit: Just happened again.

I'm slowly making XvgkUjmaWpnN2uChNpsGPGmo65mVN92vxn a very rich man.

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

Gotta say +1 to the talk about increasing marketing. I hate to sound like a broken record but we need to get a press release out to all the journalists currently covering Bitcoin, to inform them about the major innovation Darkcoin offers.

I wrote a press release while the test was in alpha (http://pastebin.com/HjrXLCfg) and I can update it later today. The dev has already read over the draft press release and added a quote. All I need is some help compiling email addresses for journalists/sites/newspapers currently covering Bitcoin. I started one here: http://pastebin.com/DMWjmqG2

When the client doesn't send the proper data for completing the transaction, they pay .25DRK currently to the master node. All fees charged during beta will be refunded.

Did you add the node to your config?

darkcoin name is a bit misplaced, xcoin was a good enough name

We have doge coin, sexcoin, tittie coin, fuck coin, and extreme coin. Yet somehow, people will see dark coin and slink away from the association? I don't buy it.
None of those are socially acceptable either, except doge of course.

If you put darkcoin in a twitter feed, everyone will auto assume you are a customer of Silk Road. I'm just saying that the coin name is one of the major factors in social propagation.

it has already inspired the creation of a 'darkroad'....

That's Right. Loydie, let me ask you, what motivates you to be interested in an anonymous currency?
I see anonymous currency as the right of everyone to privacy and democracy.

I think you guys are on the right track on the technology front, both on the anonymity front and the x11 algo. I also like that you intend to push out the zerocoin protocol when it is available. The name however is a drawback for mass adoption. I overlook stuff like that but many others won't.

In fact, i'd like to develop a coin based on darkcoin. Please PM me if interested.

Any moderators of the darkcoin subreddit in here that can allow me access?

Subreddit is r/drkcoin not darkcoin

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

You know, I see this market adoption sentiment everyday and I have to ask, if people don't know about the product, how can they adopt it? Believe it or not, marketing can make or break a coin. A quick stroll down the alt coin list shows as much. I'm not even talking about the pump and dumps. See Quark, Max, vert and the like.

I won't lie, seeing those coins gain exposure while dark remains dormant is disheartening. Hell a quick google search turns up very little on dark. That list of coin exposure should tell us something. No one is going to market dark for us. If we say we are going to hold for long term, you should understand that this is a different calibre of markets. New coins saturate the markets everyday. Lets not bury our heads in the sand here. See earthcoin for a great example of a coin that depended too much on the whole "long term" plan. That coin has lost 800% value in under 2 months and is sinking lower as other alt coins rise.

Just my two cents... And to answer the unasked question, yes I try to promote dark coin on Reddit.

I think people know about Dark and what it promises. I don't know what magical "marketing" you are talking about. What coins out there AREN'T simply trading vehicles for 99% of the people who own them? I could argue that BTC & DOGE are it when it really comes to market acceptance. To me, LTC is just a trading vehicle as well, the community sucks IMO. Sure there are a lot of contenders, but I think we're lying to ourselves to think many of these coins will survive in the long run, maybe surviving with their die-hard fans/communities. Most won't and can't.

I'll reinforce my point, this coin skyrockets if it's promises are delivered. If anonymous transactions are proven and secure, this coin has a place in the crypto world for this reason and this reason (primarily) alone.

You can get hung up on the "marketing" stuff and worrying about whether the name has an evil connotation to it. Worry about whether it will only be a "drug" coin. In all honesty, if successful, it will be a drug coin (any coin really is, even if i convert it to fiat to buy weed). Would BTC be BTC without Silk Road? I dunno. Is BTC constantly stigmatized by this? No, absolutely not. Why? Currency is/should be transaction neutral.

Remember, for every evil connotation to a crypto you can come up with an equally GOOD reason to use it.

Top 100 digital currencies by social media presence (Reddit+Facebook+Twitter followers):

http://crypt.la/2014/03/01/top-100-digital-currencies-by-social-media-presence/

1   Bitcoin....... 410,184
2   Dogecoin.... 207,791
3   Litecoin...... 37,596
4   ReddCoin.... 36,092
5   Vertcoin..... 34,594

...

55   DarkCoin.... 582

LOL. Behind such titans as BBQCoin.

Impressive, though, that DRK has the market cap that it does. Comparable to VertCoin with far less awareness.

Note: the list is missing our /r/DRKCoin subscribers so I added that in.

We're not even a blip on the radar yet, but I think that's good.  It's funny eduffield said he wanted to have the same kind of growth Bitcoin had, and though it's expedited, it's really amazing how closely we're following their footprints.  On an expedited timeline, yes, but similar growth pattern.

I'm a fan of this coin and have some. But promotion isn't going to make/break this coin. If you really believe in it, don't stress on the daily price. This will rise or fall based on 2 things.

1. How successful DarkSend is when people starting kicking the tires and test how anonymous the transactions truly are.

2. Market adoption. I think there's enough people, regardless of transaction type, that would like to know it's truly (or more?) anonymous. If it works as advertised, people will want & use it.

You know, I see this market adoption sentiment everyday and I have to ask, if people don't know about the product, how can they adopt it? Believe it or not, marketing can make or break a coin. I do agree, but currently the main feature of the coin is in early beta, and the website is (I think I read somewhere) in the process of being updated. I'm just sitting tight.

Any posts from me that were posted in Russian were NOT from me. A cykablyat obtained my forum login details when they were leaked, I was inactive from the forum at that time.

well said - and on that note DarkSend is working and the dev has delivered on his promises!!!....so next step is some smart marketing and this coin will concrete itself and the rest is history Cheesy

Valid points. I agree with you. Its not necessarily about the immediate satisfaction/value increase. If the coin matures and is implemented the way promised - value will be found/increase. "If you build it. They will come."

Whats a normal percentage for a block

100% means that the amount of shares submitted is what the average number is required to find a block. if a block is found before 100%... then it was lucky and found quicker then average... over 100%.. then unlucky and it took longer.

over the long term (a day.. week.. month etc).. a pool should be right around 100%.

Brilliant idea - but only if done in a very dispersed and organised way.

Gee, it would be REALLY NICE if at my age, I'd have learned to SLOW DOWN and READ everything!  I sent 4 payments to myself, nothing happened, then I read I needed to include the addnode!  LOL

Anyway, I added the node, will try again now and report back on my experience.  Also, when I closed my client to add the nodes, nothing happened.  I was not charged and it was as if I never sent out any funds (balance as it was)

I'm putting 3 kids through college now, and non of them have a job  Undecided

OUCH!!! You must have a DAMN good job to do that huh?

I did, once upon a time, but now I'm retired, LOL

And you can still afford to put 3 kids through college!?!?! DAMN!! I'm in line for a second job and STILL wouldn't be able to afford it. You must teach me Master Jedi!! lol

Got lucky with in-laws helping.  It's good to have family, mine is close on both sides.  Love your children, they will love you back Smiley

I wish.. teach me how to love my mother?
