I have played around with settings and think I have found optimal settings (at least for my 280X card - just like Scrypt there may be some heterogeneity).

Here are my sgminer settings for my Diamond 280X with 3GB RAM:

--kernel darkcoin
-g 2
-w 256
--lookup-gap 2
--thread-concurrency 8192
--shaders 2048
--gpu-engine 1100
--gpu-memclock 1700
--intensity 13

Getting 2.285 MH/s with rock solid stability and GPU temperature 61C

If this has been of help to anyone, any tips would be very much appreciated (trying to put together enough $ to get another graphics card):

This is settings for 280x, not 290.
The point is with 290 you got the same result thant with a 280, so you better mine something else.
At home I mine at 2.4 and half an hour later, I'm back at 2.1 because the memory switch to 150 instead of 1500.

I have reached 2500 Kh/s with my x290 - wondering for more

Are you stable? No drop after a while? No memory withc toggle between 150 and 1500?
I suspect a bios issue, but I can't really tweak it since VBE7 doesn't work.
