Progress Report #6

Thanks to everyone that showed up last night to help out with the alpha test! We had a great showing of about 30 people and a full chatroom at #darkcoin-test. After 3 full hours of darksending money randomly around, we ended up doing over 100 darksent transactions!

It worked fantastic, so next I'll be moving on to fixing some of the last known issues, then on to the next milestones.

Looking forward to the next test. Thanks everyone

I've not been able to participate in the darkcoin tests but in the next test (or privately) it may be beneficial to try out a few bots that try to send multiple darksends simultaneously, thus generating thousands of transactions to see if there is anything that can go wrong in terms of increased "load" / emulation of transaction spam attack, etc.

Do you want to do some test for this? I need testers with linux that can compile by himself

I don't have Linux on my PCs and my VPS subscription ended, sorry.

I must say I started mining this coin yesterday and everything runs 50% plus cooler. I need to get my killawatt out and see the draw compared to a normal scrypt coin. So far I love it!

Thanks Devs

I also put few of my card to mine this coin and it's true that cards run a lot cooler.
Please post results from that killawatt reader.

Ok here are the results. This miner is a 4x270

Normal Coin: 887 - 892
Darkcoin: 550-552

If someone has better setting for the r9 270 let me know

thanks

That's a huge difference on my power bill Smiley

That's a big difference. What intensity are you using and how much coin per day per card does it generate?

I 18
Threads 15232

I am currently pulling in about 4.5-5 coins per card a day.

I think I'll get less than 4.5DRK per 270x, but they are still running hot, almost 80C. That's with 1.2Mh/s on each card.
My 270x are about 45-50c at 1100rpm , and 1.33Mhs

Can you write your settings gpu/mem for 270x , also intensity and  lookup-gap in bat file?

This guy talks really slowly. Still listened to the whole thing amazingly enough.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

Here are my settings in the bat file

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
sgminer.exe  -o stratum+tcp://pool.darkcoin.io:3333 -u worker.b4 -p x --no-submit-stale -I 19 -g 1 --thread-concurrency 16000 --lookup-gap 0 -w 256 --gpu-engine 1100 --gpu-memclock 1450 --gpu-powertune 2 --gpu-fan 80

My temps are at 53-57 and each card gets 1.214Mh/s

They are the r9 290X. I also have the r9 290 gigabytes in my others miners and they are also running much cooler.

Overall this is good news for me anyway, as of right now I am saving close to $3 a day in power.

I start the two 270x's from two separate bat-files, identifying them with '-d'
Fans run at 1080 and 1250 RPM. No HW errors since start 8 hours ago.

Code:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1

sgminer.exe -d 0 --kernel darkcoin -g 2 -w 256 -I 20 --gpu-powertune 20 --queue 0 --thread-concurrency 16768 --temp-target 80 --auto-fan --lookup-gap 2 -o stratum+tcp://pool.darkcoin.io:3333 -u usr.g1 -p x

clocks 1130/1500 , -I 18 --lookpu-gap 2. You will need new gpu miner (released yesterday) .

I like the developments on the logo but I think we need a symbol for DarkCoin. I like this...

D

It's easy to replicate with strikethrough and differentiates from the vertical strikes with the dollar/bitcoin symbols. In a sentence it becomes e.g. I'll send you D30. Thoughts?

Whatever it is, I think the symbol needs to be in the coin logo.

I just started mining a few hours ago - is this currently linked in the OP? If not, can you point me where I can find the newest one?

Ok here are the results. This miner is a 4x270

Darkcoin: 550-552

Yep.  Mining scrypt my rig pulls 1150W doing 2.1Mh/s.  On darkcoin it uses 650W doing 6.2Mh/s.

As someone else has pointed out earlier though, this reduced power consumption could simply be because there's way more code optimisation to be done yet and the GPUs are only doing 50% of what is possible.  I can make my GPUs run cooler mining scrypt coins too (and more efficiently) if I want to.

Here's another point of view...  assuming that we can't push any more performance out of the GPUs while mining darkcoin, it could be argued that it is less efficient because you need to purchase 2 cards to do the work that 1 card should be capable of, in terms of raw computing power.

NEW VERSION CPU MINER, ABOUT 10% IMPROVEMENT*

https://github.com/elmad/darkcoin-cpuminer-1.3-avx-aes

I improved the cpu miner for another 10% and updated the project on github. I tried different processors and I've seen an improvement from 8% to 11%.
Remember, this version works only for processor that support the AES-NI instruction set.

Here the list of Intel processors supporting it:
http://ark.intel.com/search/advanced/?AESTech=true

And for AMD, the series:
Bulldozer-based, Piledriver-based and Jaguar-based.

Let me know what is your improvement with your cpu. Binaries for Windows version will come (some tip can accellerate the process Tongue)
