So I was just running the calculations... seems like this is horribly unprofitable to mine directly. Did I calculate something wrong?

It's possible because it's nowhere near "horribly unprofitable" territory.

X11 hashrate is roughly 3.1x scrypt. We currently have top scrypts giving roughly 0.0077 BTC/day for 1000 kH/s*. DRK is currently at 0.0083 BTC/day for 3100 kH/s.

It may have been mentioned already but how about getting the faucet up and running. There's a link to it on the website and it would seem more professional if it were working. I could probably donate a few coins and the higher the price gets, the lower the number of coins I would be willing to give - I imagine it's the same for many people.

I have no idea what a faucet is, what does it do?

Gives away free coins with a restriction that you can only use it once per day or some other time interval. Refilled by donations from richer people. The idea is to disperse the coin more widely to promote use.

Is Darksend ready to be marketed to the public yet?

Let's upvote a simple, informative post to the front page of r/bitcoin once Darksend is ready to be unveiled to the public.

I don't think it's quite ready to blast the world with it yet.  Though a subtle, more low key campaign would be good right now.  The big blow your horn campaign should wait until the beta has no more glitches.  To be sure, the glitches aren't a big deal in the overall functioning of the wallet, but people are so easily freaked out when something odd happens, it'd make for more bad publicity than good.

Soon though, very soon!

http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygreenberg/2014/03/05/most-popular-bitcoin-apps-soon-to-run-on-tor-anonymity-network/

Quote
Bitcoin core developer Mike Hearn says that an upcoming version of bitcoinj, the software that powers many of the most popular Bitcoin apps like Multibit, Hive, and Android Wallet, will route all connections to the Bitcoin network over Tor’s anonymity network. When users of those apps buy or sell Bitcoins, their transactions will be sent through Tor’s system of three encrypted hops through computers around the world before they reach another Bitcoin node.

@eduffield , can you comment on this and what it means for darkcoin?

that is still a centralized solution.  You must trust the tor network.  If the network is compromised, how would you ever know?  It was designed for the US government so obviously they'd know the ins and out of the system.  I have nothing to hide, especially from the government, but I don't trust them with any of my personal information!  Who knows, some day I might have reason to need privacy, anything the government gathers on me could be exposed in a moment.

But I'm nobody, LOL, so just keeping the network well obfuscated and decentralized makes me happy, so to each his own??

Come over to the new server, its blasting fast compared to the old server
old miners, your miners have been port forwarded to the new server,
when you get the time, change it to stratum+tcp://lotterymining.com:4444

I started mining here - It's nice to be able to get some reasonable shares with little hash power... Come on Lottery!

Also, I'm going to have to start learning German soon anyway Smiley

Oh, ok, thank you!  So instead of mining my 1 coin a day, I could have been hitting a button for it!  LOL  Nah, I'm being mean, but with most of the people on these threads, I wouldn't doubt the coins taken are sold immediately at cryptsy!

I'll go see how to donate  Tongue

well, I read through and got caught up, but I didn't see any new nodes given out for the beta.  Are there any?  I got my beta to run again, but can't send, says something wrong with node...  I'll try redoing my config again, LOL.

Can't wait to get on chinese exchanges. Don't know if 'dark' has a good or negative meaning over there. Will they tend to perceive it as being mysterious or something?

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

Before using:
● Configure your darkcoin.conf, you’ll need to add the line:
addnode=54.80.16.112.

Ok, I had to replace my DarkCoin folder in appdata, and that one didn't have the node, ugh, I'm so tired I can't think, LOL

I finally, FINALLY got darksend to work for me!!!  Yaaaay!

Sent from Windows 7, arrived in Ubuntu wallet all at once, since all three transactions were from me, LOL.  Not enough traffic to combine a pool, and I didn't want to wait ;p

Thank you shojayxt , I thought it was there, but with the switching things about, I lost it, LOL

How come it runs 30% cooler?

I think it has something to do with all the algorithms, they're not somehow speed - able?  I really don't know, but it's the side effect of the algos I'm pretty sure

Glad I could help.  I made several successful transactions using DarkSend between addresses.  The latest beta resolved the issues that were problematic for several users including myself.  There is still work to do but i have been very impressed by the responsiveness of the developer "eduffield" to address any issue brought to his attention.   Does this guy even sleep?

Appreciate those posts eduffield.

Have you by chance expounded upon the "encrypted transaction network", or at least gave a brief outline/framework somewhere? I'm curious what your vision is for this. I think I've read every post in this thread but I may have missed it.
the users part to setup.

Implementation #1: Building in something like tor to use an existing network to secure communication between the nodes and yourself. The problem is this causes everything to slow down substantially.

Implementation #2: Turn the Darkcoin network into a proxy network and pick a node to securely relay through. This could even

I'm not dead set on how I want to implement this yet, and have a few separate ideas.

Before implementation: proxies have always been supported, which would do the same thing. They just require a bit more work on have N hops before reaching an exit node and would only work for internal system messages.

Implementation #3: Unencrypted relaying using a "Pass this message on to 1 node (and tell them to do the same) you're connected to or if random number > X broadcast", so the message would hop multiple times before it was actually broadcasted by the exit node. You would never know who the original client was because N hops would be random.

Implementation #4+? I'm open to other ideas.

I don't know if he still plans on doing any of this. He used to have it listed on the first post as a feature that would be implemented sometime in the future.

Last I heard he was thinking of implementing a combination of these ideas.
