If i should buy mining equipment for DRK.. is it still more profitable that buying? Lets say i fix four amd 290.. Any recomendations?
Regards Prospect
Honestly I have no idea how that could be more profitable right now.. 4 290s right now has gotta set you back like 2000$ with the rest of the mining rig? 2000 $ is a bit over 3 BTC (3.18 right now). Let's say you have 3BTC just for round numbers sake and could get all of your DRK at 0.0015 BTC , that would mean 2000 DRK. How much time does it take for 4 of those cards to generate 2000 DRK ? By the time they are generated will the difficulty have shot up 3 or 4 times ? Seems like a lot of trouble to go through. Now if those cards will be used for other coins after .. maybe it's worthwhile. edit: just saw the post above mine - so with 4 cards you would get roughly 15 coins/day at current difficulty. which would be 2000/15 = 133 days or 4.44 months to mine 2000 DRK if the difficulty remains the same (which it won't). This coin hasn't even been out for 2 months yet , in 4.44 months who knows where it will be. This is why I stopped mining Dark. Difficulty goes up, price should go up too - not always.

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's
computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be
reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

How long before the Official Darkcoin Pool gets moved to the new server? Are my coins safe?
I'm certain your coins are safe, and I'm certain that Evan would not mind if you moved over to http://lotterymining.comI know I'm advertising a lot, but it's nice to have more hash power there, and we do need to spread it out.

I'm mining with 8 r9 290 cards and now got like 30 coins per day. Its a huge risk buying mining gear now. The 100 dollar doge days are over. But maybe good times will come soon nobody knows.. I suggest you to buy allot of darkcoins at this price.
I totally agree with this. Especially if you have coins you can convert now, as the price is dirt cheap for dark!

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=501963.msg5525645#msg5525645Update 2014.03.07I have learned about BlackCoin and DarkCoin. But it seems that both of them mining a bit too fast. I am a bit afraid on this. I'll go on spending time on NXT as it's a bit complex for me. If you have any data related to NXT or XCP, please post them here or on our own forum(prefered, thanks!). I'll checked the data and post of some other most voted coins tomorrow.(It's deep night in China now.) Hope all of you who read this post happy. We could use this exchange.

Good explanation, but you're also looking at two power supplies, a motherboard, cpu, risers, and a case or crate. Easily another 300-600, pushing your number over half a year. Then figure in about $440 for power usage. It's painful to mine anything right now.

What do we realistically think Dark can hit USD wise in the next 18 months?
I'm mining this coin only right now because I can see the potential but I think Im well behind the curve in terms of number of coins sitting in my wallet - how many are you guys going to be happy with before you start mining something else?
One of the big reasons I mine this coin is the AMAZING algorithm. It is FAR more stable on my machines, it is far less abusive to the cards, the electrical requirements are substantially nicer and that really leads to a far more enjoyable experience. oh! and my core i7's getting half the hash rate of a r9 270 is a nice benefit as well. getting some money's worth out of my cpu's.

That alone will greatly reduce power costs and PSU requirements.

What kind of i7 are you running? I've got a 4820k, and it's getting 200k# . . which seems low compared to what I've been reading. I'm using 7 threads, because anything else always kills my gpu mining. I switched to this also because of the interesting algo. Do you or does anyone reading this know of any kind of spreadsheet showing any number of coins and the algo/technology behind them? With the massive increase in coins in the last few months it's getting hard to read about them all. Do you have any particular reason you like this algo better than any others? I'm not talking about darksend. What are you judging stability/abusiveness by? Electrical requirements are fantastic for this one for sure, I'm using half the wattage.

That alone will greatly reduce power costs and PSU requirements. Yes, I have. I get 150w per card for this compared to 310 per card for scrypt. I took this measurement with a kill a watt. 150w x 4 = 600w. Adding 80w for a motherboard, cpu and peripherals. @ $.16/kWh this is equal to exactly $477.85 for six months of mining this coin with a 24 hour operation. Because of ddosing and pool switching I lowered the price to $440 for that time. I'm using 290's. Both reference and non reference. Edit: As of tonight, buying a 4-gpu r9 290 rig @ $2600 will meet ROI in just over 8 months mining just Darkcoin. This factors in power, and current intake/day.

Reading other altcoins threads is depressing. All the IPO scams, pump and dumps, people who get suckered into buying a shitcoin high. Entire twitter accounts set up for the sole purpose of misleading people into buying and holding while getting dumped on. People actually putting money into WeCoin right now (waiting to be scammed again, so soon after stackcoin).
Makes you wonder when it's going to end for all these shitcoins and if they're gonna drag the rest down with them. Makes me feel really glad to be part of something which doesn't make me feel crappy like these others coins. Thanks to evan and ape for giving it an honest go.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg5424980#msg5424980

If you're considering purchasing hardware to mine, you need to take a few more things into consideration. Right now it's absolutely profitable to mine, and IMO, it's lower risk than buying coins outright. Why lower risk? Because you only need to mine the difference between purchase price of your hardware and expected sell price on the 2nd hand market (i.e. the depreciation) before you're in profit land.
The other thing not being considered in the recent posts is that it only makes sense to assume price will also rise as difficulty rises, so your profitability at the start (while diff is relatively low) will increase retroactively as price rises over time, assuming you've held onto those mined coins.
It's impossible to know whether price will keep up with diff, however there's plenty of profit margin to spare before you will start making a loss.
My personal approach is to diversify: some money into coins and some into mining hardware. Having said all that, if you have good enough information that you expect price to rise soon with some level of certainty, you're always better off buying coins.

I really like this coin and I don't hold useless altcoins. I only own the quality crypto. I don't hold the 95% rubbish.
This coin has good branding and an awesome concept. However the threat to this coin will be other anonymous coins and government regulation.
I bought this coin because I didn't feel that it was hyped yet.

8 R9 290s , you should be averaging a minimum of 40 coins/day. What is going on with your pool and settings? With an average of 9 MH/s, I have been doing 22 coins/day last 3 days in a row.

Either way it is a win for a small miner who doesn't need to break even now. This coin will be a turn off for whale farms for a while till it commands Litecoin like valuation and beyond. By summer everyone will be mining this coin because of the energy efficiency, nothing comes close.
