This could possibly be the first crypto to have a physical coin before a GUI wallet.  Smiley

Without doubt the most exciting project in crypto today. A platform, not a coin. Here's to Alan Turing and Satoshi and Vitalik. We stride in your steps.

The only limit to ETH is our imaginations.

monero had physical minted coins before their gui wallet came out as well.  minting coins is a pretty big fad around here.

The new 0.9.41 ethminer gives me this error:

Code:
miner 18:43:38|main Mining on PoWhash #bea8e41f… : 17457792 H/s = 16515072 hashes / 0.946 s
X 18:43:39|main Failed to submit hashrate.
X 18:43:39|main Dynamic exception type: class jsonrpc::JsonRpcException
std::exception::what: Exception -32700 : JSON_PARSE_ERROR: The JSON-Object is not JSON-Valid: empty

That is on a GTX 980 with this config:

Code:
C:\Miners\ethminer-cuda\ethminer.exe -U -F http://coinotron.com:3342/NewbieMiner.gpu:derpy/

Can anyone help me out with this error?

Balance is now down further seems every 5 minutes. Damn crooks.

I'm going to solomine.
Good choice, solomining is always stable

No luck in solo mining anymore (only if you have a farm its OK). We small fishes are late for solo, the only way for 1-4GPU owners is pool.
Its normal that balance jumps up&down.
At moment it shows more but eventualy gets on real estimate balance.

I solo mine with up to 1 block a day.

http://etherplan.com/ (uses Ethereum blockchain) >> https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/3j4e6u/etherplan_welcomes_juan_llanos_and_nick_szabo_to/

thats Nick Szabo as an etherplan advisor.

confirmed by Szabo here: https://twitter.com/nickszabo4/status/638480630070702080

Ethereum is not a crypto currency coin but a open source software platform.

Ethereum is somewhat comparable with "Red Hat Linux" on blockchain tech. Yeh you may can build on it but open source software is not an investment to expect financial return.  On ethical grounds, Yeh sure. As soon as the flood of copys with improved modified code hits the marked the bagholders of this unlimited platform start crying.

Bitcoin and Ethereum are both open-source projects: the former is the blockchain of money and the latter the blockchain of things. Whilst Ethereum is a platform the ETH are tokens of value within it and the value of the network can be measured against the value of ETH.

He's just another nobody…

Yes I am. But Szabo sure ain't.

How big is the genesis block? Just curious.

Also - Is there a way to store the genesis block on an external drive?  -datadir didn't work for me.

This is probably been asked before, but I'll ask anyways: How long is the POW period? Approximately, how many Ether will be created during the POW period?

A Ethereum clone has already made a GUI wallet, SHIFT.

ETH does have a GUI wallet, AlethZero. see https://github.com/ethereum/homebrew-ethereum

I havent used it and I suppose you need some skill to install it, tho not a great deal. I am not sure if it works for all platforms/OSs either. I heard about an unofficial java wallet but will not use any wallets unless blessed by the team. I am quite certain many wallets wil begin to appear in the following days/weeks. I would happily pay a few ETH for a nice one.

In the meantime I use geth and the few java commands i need to check balance, send etc. Perhaps a tutorial is in order.

IIRC the team has tentatively suggested they might go PoS after 12 months of PoW (expected to mine ~12 million ETH n the next 12 months iirc). HOWEVER these plans might change and I personally would not object to the PoW mining phase lasting even longer. Miners help build a community. It is worth remembering Etehreum is still in alpha phase and the devs are learning the nature of this 'Etehr' as the network evolves. I know nothing of SHIFT and I am too focused on Ethereum to pay it any attention at this time.
