The time to start hold Bitcoin should be accroding to the level price,  if the price was going down more than 70% is good to start to hold it,  and if the price all the times high is better to use it for short trading. For now the best thing to do to earn more profit is hold BTC 50% and other 50% trade with others altcoin to maximize the amount of the BTC.

this has to be strategically than the way you just put it up here on this post, most times alts go down because alts are affected by many factors, but bitcoin remains the king and most adopted, also most times if you exchange the btc then at a very high USD rate, you can purchase more of those alts.

I think the lifespan of bitcoin here in cryptoworld is only few years like 2 to 3 years and that is longterm. I believe holding bitcoin for longterm can help to earn money or high profit. But don't hold bitcoin like 5 years more because possible bitcoin dump more again or bitcoin die on that year.
