When I came into cryptocurrency, I was adviced same not to hodl for long but there was one day I regretted selling my bitcoin. I sold it worth $400 and the next day,it has shoot to $550 which really pained me  .

I can't even believe the prices you're talking about.  That kills me too man, I'm sorry...

Hold is Bitcoin for long time, there is no much profit. You know why ?

Because if you only hold Bitcoin your balance will grow up only on USD rate. For example you hold 1 BTC . Current price 7500$. It's might 10k after some day. But you still have only 1 BTC.

Now think you have 1 btc and you convert it into BCH. Example for 1 BTC you get 10 BCH. Rate per bch is 0.1 BTC .

After some day if Bitcoin grow up, At the same time BCH also will grow up.
If bch rate grow 1.5 btc then you will have 1.5 BTC.

But before buy alt coin please select best coin to avoid dump.

So what you think. Hold alt coin or Bitcoin ?

In this case, there can not be universal solutions. We need to analyze the state of the market every day. Not every alt will grow. I think that bitcoin is more reliable.

In my opinion, the growth ratio is calculated from market capitalization. And now Bitcoin controls more than half of the global market.
It might make sense when all crypto grows, altcoins with small market capitalization have a greater growth ratio.
But I don't think this applies to all situations, because right now we don't see that happening.

I think it depends on our requirement if we are looking for a profit in BTC or in another coin we have to choose a profitable pair/alt . but I think we have to look for a profit in USD because still we are using USD or other fiat currency in real life

I agree that Bitcoin is safest investment in crypto, but me personally I like to diversify more. I holding around 10 different alts right now and some BTC of course
