The code already is at github. The name of the branch is "0.8.6-ric" but it contains the latest code and it has the "0.8.7" tag. The "0.8.6" part of the branch name is a reference to the fact that it's based on Bitcoin v0.8.6, I see it may be confusing but if you look at the tags it's there.

I am not the sharpest tool in the shed but when I try and create a .bat I get an error "localhost port 80: connection refused". I do have the wallet open and connected. I also have the conf file in the appdata folder.

Am I supposed to use the rcpcport 28332 or the port 28333? I am not the best at creating .bats

Added the listen and changed -p to -u. Still got the  connection refused. Opened the port in windows firewall and still the same.

I am going to solo mine one day.

EDIT: Like I said I am an idiot. I had the conf file in the appdata folder but forgot to put it in with the riecoin qt.exe folder

Thinking about the pooling issue a bit more, I have a suggestion for how to refine it:

A key danger already identified by the Riecoin creators in using 4-chains as the PoW for pooled mining is the possibility of creating a miner tailored to finding 4 chains.


(a)  Minimum divisor requirement for *all* numbers:

   Accept PoW only if:
    (a)  The first four numbers are (MR) prime; and
    (b)  None of the six numbers has a divisor <= N for N=some reasonable size prime.

As an example, the optimized miner jh00 released sieves all six possibilities up to 50,000  (https://github.com/jh000/xptMiner/blob/master/xptMiner/riecoinMiner.cpp ).  A minimum PoW of 50,000 would then exclude any share that has more of a bias towards four-chains than the default ypool miner.

(b)  Generator polynomial matches only

The pattern of primes chosen for Riecoin (p, p+4, p+6, p+10, p+12, p+16) can only occur at certain values.  The simplest polynomial for these is n*210 + 7 and n*210 + 97.  Any miner searching at locations *other* than these is clearly doing something weird, because no valid 6-chain can occur at other locations.  Any non-matching share should be rejected.

I think ypool implements option (a), checking server side for divisors of the last 2 prime candidates.
Regarding (b), actually the only possibility is n*210 + 97 (because n*210 + 7 would be divisible by 7). The RIC client does this check as quick validation to discard bogus blocks before performing RM.
But this is already covered by option (a), since 97 mod 210 is the result of doing a mini-sieve with primes 2,3,5 and 7, hence 210, it's 2*3*5*7 = 210
If you want to add 11 then you have 6 possibilities, not only one anymore.

If you test for divisors up to 50000 then the advantage for having a bias towards 4tuples instead of 6tuples should be negligible.

Whoops - yes, of course;  n=0 doesn't matter for this application.

My only suggestion would be to parameterize this in the communication protocol to the clients:  Establish a minimum filtered divisor value that clients must abide by so that it can be raised over time (or lowered) as the difficulty varies.  As the difficulty increases, the optimal size of the sieve increases -- assuming you've fixed the memory latency issues of having a sieve bigger than cache.  One presumes that a future xptMiner will do this and use a larger sieve, and it would make sense to establish *now* a way to indicate proper behavior to all clients.  We shouldn't fix 50,000 in stone, because the advantage will be back at difficulty 2000. :-)

As a datapoint:
  - The solo core of my miner sieves all six to 14M.  It takes 14 seconds to execute one round on my reference platform.
  - The ypool core of my miner sieves all six to 50k.  It sieves the first four to 16M.  It takes 17 seconds.

The solo core runs a little faster, but produces half as many 4 chains per hour -- making it a horrible idea for use with a pool.  Fortunately, the speed advantage isn't that great.

(Note that there's already a tuned version of jh's miner floating around that sieves all six to 100,000 -- and it's faster than the 50,000 version even in 4chains/hour.  So we could probably already raise the limit to 100,000, which would further cut the advantage.)

Gatra has said he'll get a Spanish voice over recorded - but all other languages would be very welcome. The way I see it, mathematics isn't culturally specific in any way, so the more languages we can connect with people in the better. Here is the script for anyone interested in doing some translating, you'd need to record at roughly the same speed as the English voice so that the timing works (I won't be able to fix timing because I won't understand the words). Definite cool factor from this for anyone who provides voice work too. 6000 people in the last 5 days have heard me as the voice of Riecoin - I had no idea last week that this week I would be such a spokesperson, but that's how things go I guess.

Riecoin needs a plan of action for its website details and the announcement page on this thread. A lot of coins have these and it really shows that the community understands the challenges and can succeed. Sometimes its just a list, and when things get done a line could be drawn through so that people can see a need was identified and then solved. Also as reference check out Reddcoin's plan of action on their announcement page. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=423597.0They mention who they need, what they need, where they'd like to see the coin etc. . . . Riecoin has none of that sort of thing, but at the very least we should have a list.

I'll start off a few, please contribute.

- get more pools operating
- get listed on cryptsy
- get listed on BTER
- have the website redesigned
- post details about Riecoin in math focused forums
- post details about Riecoin in crypto focused forums
- create a mac versions of wallet and miner
- create a way for people to view the resultant data from Riecoin
- contact notable mathematicians/departments worldwide and see if they'd be interested in endorsing or commenting on Riecoin
- make a press release about RIC to be sent to math/science based publications
- start a foundation for bounties and contests


I'd say things that could be listed under completed, or scratched out:

- Finish block explorer - almost there?
- Get listed on coinmarketcaps
- start a dedicated forum
- implement transaction malleability fix
- create a promo video

If we have it all laid out well, we can then ask Gatra to add this to the web and forum details.

For those who don't follow ypool chat, I've put online some toys for people to play with.  These should be considered very very beta quality and they don't come with any support (but if you see me on ypool, feel free to ask -- I'm "squaggle" there, for lack of creativity in picking a name).

They're derived from jh00's miner but with a substantial redesign of the way it handles sieving.  I think it's the fastest public pool miner out there, but I'd love to be proved wrong.  Linux only.  Grab the one that's right for your CPU.  They include a 2.5% dev fee that can't be decreased from the command line.

(a)  I'm releasing these in part because I want to make an argument for getting some smart people (hi, Gatra, jh, grin) to think a little more about the comparison metric for miners.  It's really tricky to compare miners at this early stage of riecoin, as you'll see if you run these miners head-to-head with xptMiner:  They report many fewer 2ch and 3ch/sec, but should be substantially faster at 4ch and 6ch/sec.  But this means that the only meaningful way to compare them is to run them head-to-head for, say, a day and count shares.

The existing miners also do not have the same throughput at different difficulties.  The ones I released above are tuned for today's current diff of about 1200, with a substantially larger prime sieve than gatra's or jh's (about 16 million primes entering the sieve).  But that means they'd probably be slower for low difficulty.  I can't think of a great way to come up with a difficulty-independent metric for comparing miners.

Perhaps, in the longer term, a benchmark suite of test inputs at different difficulties.

(b)  These implement the "fair to 50k" policy I discussed earlier:  They sieve all six candidates up to 50,000, and then apply more aggressive sieving only to the first 4 locations, in order to produce the same 4ch-to-6ch rate as the released xptMiner.

(c) How's your miner, Supercomputing?  The release above is a pretty straightforward derivative of jh's, using the same 2310*n+97 search pattern, as was also adopted by gatra's new optimized miner.  The only changes are in the management of the sieve itself to use the vector units and to be more careful about the cache while not wasting work done in computing offsets relative to z_target.  I'd love to know if you've made a more aggressively different design work well.
