Sorry for the spam, but I am happy to announce that blaketrader is ready for open beta. Please check out http://www.blaketrader.com to see how you can trade blake family of coins directly with each other. For example, trade photon directly with electron, blakecoin, blakebitcoin, and universalmolecule. Edit: To launch the open beta, I am doing a giveaway. See https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/17922-blaketradercom-blake-256-coins-giveaway/Thanks!

Development continues. Discussions have been held about bringing the blake 256 family up to the 9.3 codebase ... This is a work in progress with no date of completion.
I am working to get photon up to par with the latest release of Blake Coin and B+ then I will also have a go at electron and lithium. Upgrades are to latest build of level db for faster , tighter and more secure performance and a few cosmetics.
I am considering a new logo for Photon.
Please post thoughts or suggested logo's here ............ if I use it I cannot promise you will get paid and would need to be license free/open source image.
If someone posts a logo that the community likes I will ask the 'designer' of the logo to push it to github with their statement /license that it is in line with the rest of the project..... I will merge it.
If you are a great logo designer and don't know how to contribute to a project on github i can walk you through it in half a paragraph of a personal mesg.
Curious to see if there is any interest......

Are you looking for new splash screen or new coin logo?
I actually like the square Coin logo it's a good geeky symbol for Photon.

I was thinking logo, since most of the feedback I have had liked the splash screen more than the logo/icon but I am honestly not the best at design of logos ect.... I personlly liked the classic logo I picked but others feel differently. One person suggested I swap the spash screen and logo Since this is a long terrm project and I am one to move fast with matters of security /coding ect... I move a little slower on the design choices /marketing /appeal of the coin. I should probably reverse my strategy based on how I see other things run but I probably wont. Still thanks for your vote to maintain Photon as it is, no one else may even be paying attention (right now......) Are you looking for new splash screen or new coin logo?

i forgot to post the most recent wallet https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz8503hoyr74SFFPOGVDYW4tLWM/view?usp=sharingit will re index so not recommended going back to prior wallet once you use this one new logo by Mogrigh likely the choice for next release (sorry it was not included in this one) note link is to a win qt -- if running linux please compile your own from source, if on a mac, lol well I had a mac wallet working until yosemetie came along and I abandoned my efforts, I will certainly get back to that eventually when I have time and probably build mac wallets for all blake 256 coins that are merge mined -- the mac is not a big priority for me right now.....

Sorry you are having connectivity issues. Are you using the nodes in the op I have about 28 connections so it should be working. Once piece of advice the peers.dat can be left in the roaming folder for some upgrades , this would be one of hose If you still have it restore it. Also I would make sure you are not behind a firewall and try restarting the wallet. Let me know how that turns out. I seem to be unable to synchronize my wallet. I upgraded to the latest wallet, deleted my peers.dat, and I'm still unable to sync. I'm stuck on block 117057. What can I do?

In February Photon Will Be One Year Old
I just want to thank everyone who has supported Photon so far , all the miners, exchanges, other team members, loyal and known members of the community and everyone else who has played a role.
I know a lot of people are only concerned with alt coins if they can exchange them into btc or fiat and earn a profit.
Photon was designed to prevent this.
There is and will be enough Photon in the next few years to go around for the entire world.
There will be enough for any games in development by Bluedragon747 that Photon can play a role in. (And the games look great so far)
There are and will continue to be enough Photon to replace the entire currency supply of the entire world. (I could say the same of Blake Coin)
Of course once an open source project is let lose on the world .... anyone is free to jump in.
Such is the nature of the beast. But as Photon inches closer to it's first birthday I urge the less selfish members of this forum to consider a few things.
First (and this may not be so important now but in a few years I think it will be VERY important) when everyone forgets about the pump and dumps, the get rich quick schemes, and all the other negative stigmas with bitcoin and alt-coins all that will remain is coins that were always run honest and for everyone from day one. Adding to this the Blake256 technology advantages I am very pleased with how the blake coin merged mining eco system is developing. We also have several other great coins like Universal Molocule, Electron, Blake Bitcoin and Lithium.
While no coins in the Blake 256 merged system were premined there are a few with lower block awards and max money than Photon and Blake Coin.
Each coin was carefully thought out for long term use for specific situations as part of the ecosystem yet each can stand alone.
We have not even yet scratched the surface yet of what can be done with the Blake system.
BlueDragon747 and I around a month ago exchanged some correspondence outlining some experimental ideas some of which are parallel to similar services for bitcoin and some of which go beyond things that have been done with bitcoin thus far.
Let us suppose that bitcoin becomes over the next five to ten years on a level of gold or silver and increases in value (which I believe is it's eventual destiny but cannot be sure it will happen as soon as many others want to believe.)
Do you think the world is going to not have a back up system running, ready to go and that can on a seconds notice step right in and take over if something were to happen ? Think about that for a moment. Before it can go 'all the way' or even 'half way' cryptocurrency will need parallel systems that can gave certain parties or groups with common goals an alternative ? Suppose something shook the confidence of btc ? I am not talking about the themes that have played over and over again so far like exchanges or services being robbed or such. None of these issues really have anything to do with the security and safety of btc. Still before a large amount of the world is willing to switch to cryptocurrency no matter what the motivations are that drive them eventually people are going to want multiple backup systems running in parallel.
If Microsoft could have put Apple out of business back in the days when they dominated I certainly think they would have. Even the evil menage a trois of visa, mastercard and american express are all still around and they grew out of diners club if you look back in history. Those three have survived for many reasons but can you really imagine a world with just ONE?
I do not see 'side chains' or closed source projects being those alternative world wide working systems that will be successful if you play this into the future five, ten or twenty years. Finally we must never forget that Satoshi's whitepaper predicted that the cost of resources (in this case hardware and more so electricity) would eventually be impacted by mining. I think that is a valid prediction and thus those seeking 'asic' resistance are looking to 'equalize' the playing field in what I (and a few others) feel is the wrong direction when you think long term. If we wanted to make cars that reduced the need for oil we could produce cars with better mileage per gallon OR we could produce cars that don't use oil even though they use something else that may be more costly or difficult to sustain over a long time frame. Early in the 20th century the automobile could have run on steam, alcolol, or other products. Oil won that format war. (Some believe this is the reason the Volstead act was passed in the United States)
The record was never fully replaced by analog tape and tape was never fully replaced by the compact disc. Today the formats available are more varied than ever. These examples are just that. No guarantee that people all over the world will look at 'money' or 'currency' with the same eye that they looked at machines or entertainment formats.
Still no one can deny that Blake 256 meets or exceeds the security of sha 2 from all the academic research that is available. It was not (directly) invented by the NSA like sha 2. Blake is more energy efficient on cpu's , gpu's , fpga boards (which are normally prototypes for asic technology).
I listened to a talk from Gavin A. that he gave several months ago where he stated firmly there were no plans to change the algorithm of bitcoin. Now that so many have invested so much in the asic's for bitcoin they would have a difficult time reversing or changing anytime in the near future. Sidechains are not the answer since once again they are not a backup system instead they are reliant on btc.
You may not agree with all my statements here for whatever reason but I personally am involved with the Blake Coin ecosystem because I truly believe it will go down in history as a long term successful worldwide cryptocurrency alternative. I only devote serious time and effort to things that I believe will be important to the future for the good of all.
I am not in a hurry for this to happen like everyone else is for almost every other coin out there now and the hundreds of others on the drawing board. I see it as a long term likely outcome (since nothing is certain). Just take a look at how many coins exist now that have payment processing systems, all kinds of mobile wallets and a host of other things borrowed from bitcoin. Why are they not successful as of yet ? Several reasons. One reason is that some things take years. Look at the internet for a good example. Another reason a lot of 'popular' projects out there now are doomed to failure is you can evaluate the 'reward' structure of the distribution of the coins and see different flaws that stand out. I am not going to say one thing negative about any other project out there but since most coins cannot be spent on many things like bitcoin can if they have 'value' or 'market caps' which are very large I don't think it takes very long to understand why.
Right now is the blake coin ecosystem and all the child coins merge mined with it are sitting in a very desirable position.
First the MMO game in development by Bluedragon747 and his team is certainly something that is a natural fit.
Try mining scrypt 1024 with a gpu and see how many frames per second you get on a game written with that format.
Blake256 allows full video card performance with maxed out mining capability.
Faster than any other algorithm.
Also this game is only the first in development.
There is no limit to the number of games that can be developed , the themes they can be based on and how much more advanced they can go !!
When you look down the road several years we are perfecting a system that can stand alongside bitcoin on a technology level and in some ways can eclipse it.
A frequent criticism I hear often of bitcoin is that less than 1000 people are believed to own about 1/2 of the bitcoin currently mined thus far.
On top of technology the reward structure of Blake Coin will not be cutting in half and will be paying out the same block award of 25 coins (plus the small subsidy based on difficulty and blockheight) for a very long time. Photon will be mined out on or around the year 2030 but the block reward is much larger so it would be nearly impossible for anyone to hold an unfair amount of it. Other members of the Blake 256 family are generally structured along similar lines so it will be very difficult to aquire and control a large number of units.
On top of this with 3 minute blocks (or 2x faster in the case of Electron) the 'scalability' of tx per minute/hour ect.... is a much smaller concern.
Cryptocurrency will hold a future place in the world and make the future feel like us looking back at using telephone operators to make calls vs. what we do with smartphones now. There are going to be several (but not an unlimited number) of key systems that will form the foundation of this 'future'.
Blake Con turned a year old in October so it is 15 months old, Photon is coming up on it's 1st birthday.
I never like to tell people to buy anything or believe anything.
Make up your own mind. If you need more information on the technology advantages of Blake 256 feel free to ask or better yet do your own research.
Nobody knows what is going to happen for sure but I am not a woman who is a dreamer. I prefer to deal with reality backed up by facts I can check out myself not spoon fed to me from someone else.
If you read this post to the end thanks.
