Developer Note April 15, 2014

Addressing the previously reported issues, there will be a wallet update to v.1.1 We are working on the details and will announce enough in advance this week so that everyone can be ready.

Here are some important but non-tech related updates:

1. Over 2-million EDU have been given away as prize money to the University of Virginia hacker teams and Rutgers University hacker teams during this weekend's college hackathons. This represents the first case ever where digital currency was given to students. The hacker teams are seriously talented people, many bound for Google, etc. after graduation. We are in communication with some of them, and they may be developing startup business models around bitcoin/educoin.

2. Trade volume in the LTC market at CryptoAlteX is heating up. https://www.cryptoaltex.com/index.php?page=trade&market=LTC&coin=EDU

3. EduCoin now re-appears at position #130 on Coinmarketcap, after being at the very bottom of the list due to low volume in a 24-hour period. Gliss, the site operator, will be updating the API feeds so that the ranking actually reflects the trade data currently not being factored in (LTC @ CryptoAlteX, BTC, DOGE @ Coin-Swap).

4. The main developer, Edumoto, started grassroots outreach to education leaders across the US, at universities, governments, and national organizations. He could do this all by himself, but then that would not be fun. Consider ways where you can help in your community or city.

5. Crowdfunding and Paying it forward. Several ideas have been put forth such as giving EduCoin to students. This is really important, since the EduCoin concept was an offshoot of Dogecoin's generosity.

Each person who owns EduCoin may consider distributing it to the students in their family or network. Others who have significant sums of EDU can consider donating millions or billions of EDU to their alumni funds. Case in point: http://www.inc.com/associated-press/bitcoin-entrepreneur-makes-first-cryptocurrency-donation-to-college.html  Of course, skeptics will say, "EDU is worthless" but who will refuse the chance that EDU goes the way of a bitcoin pizza?

7. EduCoin's first block halving is coming!

Have a nice week everyone.

In order to ensure high quality feedback and troubleshooting assistance from the community, please follow these guidelines when posting an issue with the client/wallet.

Invalid Posts
Since we are interested in clearly defined issues that may affect us all, we will delete threads that are deemed unproductive in identifying/fixing issues:
1. One liners without any further explanation or evidence of the problem
2. Statements demanding something be fixed or explained immediately
3. Difficult to understand posts

Issue Reporting Guidelines
o Any time you encounter an issue, make a first or second attempt to resolve the issue yourself.
o State what kind of operating system you are using.
o Supply screenshots where applicable.
o Provide as much information as possible such as what prior actions led to the issue (ex. Did your computer have a hardware failure prior to the event? Did you install any other wallets or software?)
o Use understandable English so that others can follow up and resolve the issue.
o Please verify that there are not already threads on this issue in previous posts.
o Please confirm the internet connectivity in your area.

And whatever you do, please make certain your wallet.dat file is backed up!

We recommend: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=486600.msg6011881#msg6011881

Also:
Please confirm that the .conf settings in the OP are in the file titled ".conf file".   If that is blank then paste the details in and save. Oftentimes, the bug in this process is when your computer ends up saving the configuration file not as ".conf" but as ".conf.txt" --basically a textfile. Look at the instructions here. This may be the solution: http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/24021-trying-make-conf-file.html

Update Re: Coinmarketcap ranking

EduCoin was listed at Coinmarketcap's ranking site sometime between April 3-4.  EDU has been moving up and down the list as the market discovers and establishes an initial floor price. While none of the movements concern us at this early state, we are aware that first impressions count. Newcomers who learn about EDU through Coinmarketcap should know that the sporadic last place position at Coinmarketcap --noted with question marks (?)-- is not accurate.

1. BTC trades have slowed down as more people take advantage of the low LTC/EDU exchange price at CryptoAlteX. Volume has increased over the past few days and people are buying large amounts of EDU with LTC. We think 2-satoshis (BTC) is a fair starting floor price, and the current 2-liteoshis (LTC) price is very cheap.

2. None of these LTC trades have been factored into the price averages at Coinmarketcap. The site operator was notified.

We will update you here when Coinmarketcap updates the feeds for EDU price, price cap, and volume data.

If I understand this correctly, some guy in China thinks EDU is Chinese. And he is dumping it because he thinks it's Chinese?

Wow. That's one of the funniest things I've ever heard on Bitcointalks.

Have a nice weekend everybody!

Hi Aumarx,

It looks great and you put a lot of hard work into it.

As far as the official EDU logo, we want to improve or tweak it rather than replace it. We've seen other coin communities spend a lot of time voting and running contests and actually end up keeping the original.

In this case, we should keep your skeumorphic design for anyone who wants to make physical EDUs.

The best approach for the brand logo is to work from the original AI file.  Can you take a look at the bitcoin graphics I/II and see if we can make a consistent hybrid of that?  Anyone else who is design minded is welcome to take a crack at it.

Developer Note April 19, 2014

I have an important announcement and opportunity for the EduCoin community, specifically developers.

As many of you know, we were considering replacing KGW with Digibyte. We also had to update the wallet to address any weakness (if any) to the Heartbleed vulnerability. This plan is still in effect.

In support of that effort we would like to make a general announcement for more developers to help us complete these updates and reach for more ambitious improvements. EduCoin is a starting platform for so much more to come.

Our development roadmap includes a plan to give full development control to universities (the future EDU foundation). Now is the right time to start recruiting people for that initiative. If you are currently studying at a university, or are currently employed by one, please join our team so that we may extend EduCoin further for education.

Moving forward.

Sincerely,
Edumoto

Aumarx, I have to agree. If you could take what you created run it through powerpoint, apply the concentric circle smart art and the vampire theme (dont forget to apply the shadow to the font) I think it would be vastly improved.   Grin

Nice work Aumarx. Definitely a step in the right direction as to quality of work.

..now back to the (edu)mines for me.

Cheers.
