A: No. The EduCoin (EDU) detailed in this post is the original and first cryptocurrency project developed for education. Though there are many projects with the name "EduCoin", our EduCoin is the open source public blockchain/cryptocurrency project that targets education use cases broadly. Our interest is focused on the public good versus the interests of a private business or venture capital investors. Finally, we are focusing on long term development as a viable blockchain platform for everyone.
Q: Was this coin pre-mined?
A: No. It was not pre-mined. It was publicly announced and launched fairly.
Q: Was this coin launched via ICO?
A: No. EduCoin is not an ERC20 token, and therefore there was no Initial Coin Offering.
Q: What is the coinswap for?
A: Educoin forked in September 2017 after changes in the coin specifications. The coinswap was to help original EDU holders swap their coins to new EDU in a 5000:1 ratio. It was conducted through January 2017.
Q: Why not use Bitcoin for education?
A: Bitcoin and EduCoin can co-exist together. EduCoin can be further customized for use in specific educational settings and contexts, whereas Bitcoin maintains its role as a general use cryptocurrency.
