After much debate and conversation regarding the #84 , marine national monument card, a strong case has been made that the card belongs in the historical event set along with #83 cryptocurrency, #222 solar eclipse, and #259 cyclone bomb.  So from now on I will refer to the historical event set as the Crypto Solar Bomb Monument  (CSBM) set for short.

Don't forget to add these special cards to the [2017] historical event set:

#145 Genie Bouchard — Featured in the 2017 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.
#220 Theo Epstein — Fortune Magazine ranks Epstein #1 in their 2017 list of the "World's Greatest Leaders."
#18 Bullpen Car — Tires rotated, battery charged, and other general maintenance performed throughout the 2017 season.

Regards,
Chris

LOL!!! Smiley

Seriously though, I have contacted Topps to discuss the four 2018 cards that appear to have common relevance with each other and will post our discussion afterwards.

Personally, I think you are 100% correct in the sense that these cards all have in common an historical relevance from the same year (2017). However, I am skeptical that they were intended to go together as some kind of sub-set collection.

I can easily picture the folks at Topps sitting around the table and asking, "OK, everyone. We've decided on which ball players will be in the upcoming 2018 A&G cards. We still have space for 34 non-baseball players. Any ideas? And let's not make them all people. How about a few non-human cards? C'mon, what do you got for me? We need ideas, people!" A person speaks up, "Umm, I did read an article about that new cryptocurrency, bitcoin, yesterday. Apparently, it was a really big deal last December. All over the news. Maybe something like that?" "Hmm...cryptocurrency. I like it! What else was all over the news in 2017?" Another person speaks up, "Well, let's see... We had that big solar eclipse. And there was that bomb cyclone too." "Alright! We've got some great ideas, so far — cryptocurrency, solar eclipse, bomb cyclone... Let's run with it."

As I said above, I can easily see the product development team in a conversation like that. However, I do not picture them saying, "Hey, let's make this a sub-set collection of historical event cards! People can collect all three and display them together!" Says another employee, "You mean 'collect all FOUR!' Don't forget the memo we got this morning about the Marine National Monument!"

But I admit... I could be wrong. In fact, I often am. Grin

I look forward to reading the reply from Topps. Thanks for reaching out to them, dolphriends.

Regards,
Me

I'm sorry but I fail to see the connection between the #83 card and any other card in this series.  As far as I'm concerned (and short of a verifiable press release from Topps), these other cards are mostly off-topic to this thread.

Can someone fill me in on a few things on these cards.

1) What was original price of the hobby box cases from topps? both the ginter x and base set.
2) How many of each were produced?  I've read that only 200 boxes of the ginter x.
3) Is it true that the red and silver cards are only in the ginter x boxes?  If that is true then each case would have to have 4 1/5 red cards for all 300 players.  That also would mean that some boxes would have to have multiple silver cards.
4) Are all the cards in ginter x box black?

I was somewhat disappointed in that in two hobby box cases, the best crypto card i found was an A&G back.  Don't get me wrong it was fun going through all the cards, but the odds are not in your favor for a brooklyn back or no number.  What i didn't know is that the non-x boxes have no red or silver cards at all (i think).

That being said, now i see why dolphriends says that these high-priced cards are worth it, because statistically, i would have to buy a high number of boxes to put the odds in my favor to get a serialized or low-production card.

Can someone fill me in on a few things on these cards.

1) What was original price of the hobby box cases from topps? both the ginter x and base set. Individually, the Hobby boxes were $109.99 each and the Ginter X boxes were $70 each. I read on a baseball card forum that cases and boxes were separate products. One forum member mentioned that the cases were sold out, so he purchased 12 separate boxes, and his order arrived as a sealed case of 12 boxes. So, at least in that instance, his case cost $109.99 x 12 = $1,319.88.
2) How many of each were produced?  I've read that only 200 boxes of the ginter x. I believe the "fewer than 200 boxes" figure for the Ginter X was based on how quickly they sold out and how many boxes shoppers were allowed to place in their carts before the quantity showed OUT OF STOCK. We may never know the exact quantity.
3) Is it true that the red and silver cards are only in the ginter x boxes?  Yes. If that is true then each case would have to have 4 1/5 red cards for all 300 players.  That also would mean that some boxes would have to have multiple silver cards. My math, based on the estimate of 200 cases (with 12 boxes per case), says there are 2,400 Ginter X boxes. The 350 base cards x 5 reds per card = 1,750 red cards. And 1 silver card per base = 350 silvers. Together, we have 2,100 red and silver cards found in 2,400 boxes for odds of 7:8 or 87.5% for finding a red or silver card in a box of Ginter X. My own experience would support that.
4) Are all the cards in ginter x box black? All the full-size base cards are black, but the minis can be anything — black, red, silver, and even the base variations like Brooklyn, A&G Back, Black Border, etc.

If someone wants to buy a ginter x 12 box case for 0.32 BTC shipped let me know.  It is in transit and I may not be able to resist tearing into it otherwise.   Could be a red or silver 83 card inside

My luck stinks when opening packs.  I have gone through cases of ginter and ginter x and the best I have pulled is a mini black.  LOL.  I just pay the price when I see a card I need, cheaper and I don't end up pissed off.   Smiley

I found a printing plate as well (Ryder Jones) along with a cloth Johnny Bench and two metal  1/3 minis.  this was in just two hobby cases, so i think i did good.

You did great, anytime you pull a plate or metal mini's those are great cases.   What did the cases run you, I have seen them as high as 2100.00 a case

Frank (Lynx Art Frank) was nice enough to point me to blowout cards where they sold for 1,100 at the time.  They have since sold out completely.  Steel City sells them for the same price.

I bought a Ginter X case for 1400 with an ebay 10% off that i may flip if anyone is interested.

I would like to hereby rescind any doubts that I previously may have voiced about the legitimacy of an intended Historic Event Collection. This change of mind probably has nothing to do with me pulling a #259 Bomb Cyclone GLOW mini card.

Thank you for your time.

Me
