Cryptsy has "Cryptsy Points" which (I think?) are granted when you trade. Nothing spectacularly unique about that, but the interesting thing is that you can also buy and sell Cryptsy Points on the exchange, like a currency. That way the market sets the ultimate reward, and it's not limited to people who keep larger balances.
What can you use Cryptsy points for?

payments to depositors are a promotion for bringing more life to the exchange i guess. it doesnt mean that the losses are paid. marketing actions are good for the shareholders because if they work that brings more traders to vircurex and therefor more income -> dividend for shareholders
Agreed, this is a mechanism to grow volume on the exchange, which in turn increases fees that should, one presumes, bring the exchange closer to running in the black. That said, this should have been communicated to shareholders, and likely voted on.

I put in 1BTC to see, I let 3 payments accrue:
0.00000641 0.00000985 0.00000645
Average was 0.00000757 Estimated daily interest on 1BTC = .00003028 Withdrawal fee: 0.002BTC Time to make enough interest to even cover the frigging withdrawal fee: 66 days!!!!!
Yeah, when the interest is best measured in satoshis, you know its not worth the risk.
thanks, I withdrawed my coinz some time ago, so it looks like there is no reason to put them back

There's a way to change your timezone in the settings. I don't have time right now to list instructions, but post again tonight if you can't find them and I'll guide you tonight.

Can't access it now. @Kumala: vircurex cannot be accessed from China unless a proxy is used, probably because cloudflare is blocked. Proxies are a pain in the neck to use. vircurex is losing half of the wolrd's crypto users. All other crypto exchanges are ok.

Can't trade - error releasing the order! Website or API? I ran into this issue 3.5 days ago with the API, attempting to release the order returned error 9999, but the order showed on the website and I was able to release it there. Still waiting for a reply from support.

The website! No wonder the prices were so good at that time if it did not work for anybody! Today I was able to buy 1LTC but I am not able to sell 27LTC. Again order release failed. Support did not answer yet

This is a new bug that has affected LTC/BTC trading 3 times so far. The first time it took days to get fixed (they announced it was fixed with the "Stuck LTC/BTC trading queue resolved" news message). The second time was faster only lasting a few hours. But this one started yesterday and still hasn't been resolved. I have a bot that trades on Vircurex and every time this happens it causes headaches for me. Basically a trade will show up in the order book and it'll be impossible to buy or sell into it either through the web (you can't release your order) or the API (you get back an error). If you look at the graph on https://vircurex.com/orders?alt=ltc&base=btc you'll see three distinct straight lines on there, one which we are currently in the middle of. I've emailed support every time this has happened and I can't tell if it does any good as I get no reply back and sometimes it takes days to resolve. I understand if they can't keep up with email support volume due to a bunch of new users but for love of god please setup nagios or something to monitor the exchange for bugs like this and for running out of withdrawal balances (my theory on why sometimes withdraws get stuck for days). Anyways sorry for the rant, I really like Vircurex so it's just hard to watch it have issues like this.

Same here. I was caught by an API bug ("Several orders were executed wrongly between 4th Dec and 7th Dec") so shut off my bot. When that was fixed, I turned it back on, only to find that the Vircurex API was now randomly refusing to release orders. My bot normally watches/trades 24/7/365, but it has been switched off for 99.9% of the past 12 days because of these API problems.

Yeah LTC/BTC has been broken on and off for a couple days now. The "stuck" order will change around but basically you'll see an order that you can't buy or sell against without getting an error, this then freezes the exchange at a rate it shouldn't be at compared to the other exchanges.
I'm not sure what eventually ends up releasing it. I suppose it's possible someone has figured out a way to create these orders that break the system. They then wait for the price to get out of whack with other exchanges and then cancel their order and buy up or sell into the orders that are out of whack with the true price.
Of course it's also possible that it's just a bug but I think it's interesting that none of the other currency pairs seem to suffer from it. Anyways after losing .1 BTC last night from this bug again I'm leaving my bot off.
Hopefully Kumala can post here on what the problem actually is and how the underlying bug has been fixed.

FWIW they have acknowledged the problem, but haven't solved it yet. 18 Dec 2013 - Occassional stuckLTC trading queue NEW We are observing that the LTC/BTC queue gets stuck on rare cases. We are looking into it and hope to solve the root cause soon.

Attention: Vircurex seems to have BIG problems with their system! I do not trust them any more (nor do I trust BTC-E or cryptsy!) - fortunately I withdrew all my funds (except something worth less than a cent) a short time ago after reports (incl. a personal friend of mine) that LTC withdrawal sometimes takes days!
Now I see this in my own account: I am not only owning a very few remaining 0.000000xy LTC, but to my big surprise I am also owning BTC, DGC, DVC, FTC, IXC, NMC! Note that I never ever owned DGC, DVC, FTC, IXC or NMC on Vircurex!
It's worth less than a cent in total, so I am not too excited about this unexpected "fortune". It's even too few to trade it! But it shows that something strange is going on at Vircurex!
Although I never made a buy order for those coin, they appear in my balance now! And looking at my history, the last transaction listed is from end of November, so the history list does neither include these (alleged) purchases of these coins, nor does it include my actual recent withdrawals.
So evidently the Vircurex server is completely messed up. This is a warning to everyone, and I am telling the truth, this is not a troll posting or something.
I am advising everyone to withdraw funds from Vircurex as long as it is still possible, I am expecting official bad news from Vircurex soon! - because this is certainly not a sustainable situation at Vircurex.
UPDATE: My apologies to Vircurex: Indeed these unexpected incomes seem to stem from (unexpected) referrals! - thanks for the hint! Anyway, I remain critical because of the withdraw latencies.

Thanks for the feedback; did you ever get any referrals? cuz that would generate some of the coins you don't own to be added to your account. However, if you don't have any referrals when you click the referrals tab, then I agree with your thoughts; however, I'm ok with leaving some coins on there for now.
