Would it be possible to go into detail for wiring the PCIE cable to 2.5mm Plug for the miners. I want to use an extra psu i have lying around but I am worried I might fry the Miner, also What type of power supply does the WIIDevice take. Can I do the same thing with it from the PSU as the miners or do I need something else specific.

Thanks

Part 3B: Wiring your own Molex or PCI-E power connectors

AT YOUR OWN RISK

Would it be possible to go into detail for wiring the PCIE cable to 2.5mm Plug for the miners. I want to use an extra psu i have lying around but I am worried I might fry the Miner, also What type of power supply does the WIIDevice take. Can I do the same thing with it from the PSU as the miners or do I need something else specific.

Thanks

Sample Molex HomeBrew (Electric Tape)

I am not trying to dissuade anyone from making their own cables or selling to others if that is is your goal.  But please, please overbuild them at a minimum.  I have been doing this for two years now with many hundreds of cables in the wild on many different platforms.  Just follow that small bit of advice for safety sake.  Know what wire gauges and connectors you are using and what they are capable of and please afford yourself 10-20% headroom just in case.

With the sizes of the farms I am seeing, fire is a real concern.  Be safe and happy mining. Smiley

The watts for the Gridseed 5 is:

8 watts for LTC only
52 watts for BTC only
60 watts for combined BTC/LTC

Using a 12 volt power supply, the amount of amps is:

0.66a LTC only
4.33a BTC only
5.00a Combined BTC/LTC

Based upon this chart
http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm

The recommended gauge wire is:

23 gauge for 0.729 amps (0.66 required for LTC only)
15 gauge for 4.7 amps (4.33 required for BTC only)
14 gauge for 5.9 amps (5.00 required for combined BTC/LTC).

Given that the gauges are conservative, you can probably get by with 24 gauge (.577 amps) for LTC only mode, and 15 gauge for combined mining.

Note: If you use 23 gauge wire, and inadvertently invoke BTC mode, you risk melting the wire.

For Dual mode you can safely run 3 miners per PCI-E
For Scrypt mode you can run at least 10 per PCI-E 1-5 per molex.
You could run 10 on molex but I wouldn't take it that high as you could then load 1 PSU lead to 400Watts and burn down the building.

The hub and gridseeds are 12v

http://www.moddiy.com/pages/Power-Supply-Connectors-%26-Pinouts.html

The RED wire on the gridseed plugs (center of the barrel) is +12v which makes the white wire (outside of the barrel) ground

The wiibox/tplink controllers are 5v USB

http://pinoutsguide.com/

Running the LighteningAsic Controller off the 12v supply (Same thing runs a Raspi in real life)

Perfect thank you,

Let me see if I understand this, PCIE, I would be able to wire 3 Miners up to, and if I ran a IDE molex to the IDE plug on my modular PSU, the red wire with a ground will provide 5V of power to the WIIContrller

Red and Black yes.

I know I read it in one of the gridseed threads somewhere, but I cant seem to find it now. Can anyone tell me what the specific power requirements of a 5 chip Gridseed device is? Thanks.

if your on a mac, i downloaded this program from the appstore called ip scanner home - basically scans everything on your network and even tells you what device they are, from cellphones to apple tvs... Pretty nice program

I'm sure there are windows variants on the web

Is it possible to plug 1 miner directly into the WIIBox controller or do I need a powered hub???
Also note i was successful thanks to help in this thread using a ide molex to power(5v) the controller and a miner(12v)

?

The board says 100ma via USB and 12v (IDK amps) via the 2.5mm barrel plug.

All the power draws are in the power and freqs section of the OP.

Can someone name a make and model of USB hub that is working well for them?

This is common question.  If you find one let me know the model.  For now I think it's about full USB 2.0 speed and high overall power.

This is the one that came with my GX devices http://sipolar.en.alibaba.com/product/1319068659-0/Desktop_10port_charging_station_battery_charging_station_for_mobile_phone.html

I could likely source an order from china for a few dozen each if it's worthwhile.

here's a 20 port on ebay.

Most routers have a DHCP lease table.  The MAC address on the unit is printed on the bottom.

I want a screenshot of this Smiley

You need a powered hub to give enough power to the gridseed board (I'm only 99% sure of this)   Someone should try it.

Also note i was successful thanks to help in this thread using a ide molex to power(5v) the controller and a miner(12v)

I definitely want a picture of these so I can add it to the wiring diagrams I posted above!

I cannot get the board to detect the miner when I hook it directly up and I cannot find the AC adapter for my hub at the moment, I plug the miner into my pc and it is detected fine. Once I have this thing running I will take some photos of the wired up psu connector and post it here.

So that confirms the board is powered by usb while I'm guessing the fan and some part of the mining chips are powered by the power connector. -> which means you will need a powered hub.

Amps is what I'm trying to find, I think I read somewhere that a power supply for these should have 7 amps available, which sounds really high. Maybe 7 amps is for the whole 3Mh kit, when using dual mode. Thinking I'll just rig up a molex>barrel connector cable so I can plug these into the psu running the rig I plan to add them to. Unless Cablez can get me a cable in the mail real soon, but I'm betting he is pretty swamped at the moment.

Yeah he's become super popular overnight because of the cabling problem with these miners. Cheesy
