That guy is a Scam Muggle. A short muggle starting with the online handle josg21 to, allegedly, ■■■■■ about boob jobs (plastic surgeons) and poor service Mr Homero Garza has since changed to the handle GAWCEO. A while later after tainting the handle GAWCEO a change was made to MrCEO and minerorigin which exist in parralel. In order to, allegedly, attempt confusion over his real name Homero Joshua Garza uses his middle name and mixes up aliases so he is commonly known as Josh Garza or Joshua Garza. On several patents held with Mr. Stuart Fraser Vice Chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald, Garza uses H. Joshua Garza as apposed to H. Josh Garza. Varios internet Trolls and FUDsters refer to him as Homero Garza or Homero Josh Garza or just Mr. Scam Muggle. Mr Garza, allegedly, started his entreprenuership with Optima Computers LLC in Brattleborough Vermont (VT) where he then branched out into the, alleged, oversubscription of Broadband service with his company Great Awk Wireless also called GAW High Speed Internet and shortened to GAW HSI. Having claimed to make millions with this service or sale of the company or something, Mr Garza then went on to the cryptocurrency industry where he, allegedly, applied the same oversubscription techniques to ASIC Mining with his platforms ZenMiner and ZenCloud selling virtual products called the Hashlet and Hashtaker. Sometimes referred to as CashLets, CashTakers and Ponsi's. Through the puported success of said platforms under a conglomerate of companies called Geniuses at Work or GAW for short Mr Garza, allegedly, moved on from GAW Miners LLC to a new company which should have provided a clean slate. Business Technology for Cryptocurrency LLC or BTC LLC for short which matches the domain name BTC.com puportedly purchased for 1.1 Million USD, was born. This company launched several platforms such as PayBase at Paybase.com and paycoin known as XPY. The PayBase platform allegedly destroyed the products PayFlash (gyft) PaySave (zincsave) as well as others. The Paycoin "Currency" allegedly destroyed the concepts of HybridFlex, FundSafe, Huh. After much public scrutiny Mr Homero Joshua Garza married to Jessica Garza then set out to not own the platforms Coinstand at coinstand.com (which used an, allegedly, embezzled codebase called zincsave to purchase from Amazon violating the ToS) and mineral at mineral.com (which used an, allegedly, embezzled codebase called coin-swap). These new ventures were puportedly related to Hong-Kong, hong kong, while rumor persists of Dubai being the real location. In short Scam Muggles be commitin' fraud and Scammin' Muggles.

Part 3: Hacking together the Power

MOVED FROM THE END:
MOST IMPORTANTLY!

Throw away the PSU's (They suck and smell like burning electronics)

Quote
Center/Red Wire Positive. 2.1mm ID 5.5mm OD

Contact cablez or post to his thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=74397.0

Order QTY 4 PSU Modular or PCI-E to 3 barrel plug cables.

This gives you 12 total plugs from an ATX PSU.
10 go to the gridseed devices
1 goes to the hub
1 is a spare

For running scrypt only you can use a 350 or less PSU for 10 units.
For dual mode you will need 1200+ watts for 10 units *(At peak efficiency) or 1200 Watts for 20 at capacity.

Now For Hacking together power

I'm on 110 here:

If you are lucky enough to have Chinese style power this would work.  This is from the lightening asic instructions.... Lol.

US POWER

get some tools, or scissors:

Cut off the end of the power cord:

Peel back the coating to show the inner insulated wires:

Strip the three wires:

Place the wires on the PSU correctly!

EU POWER

1 -Get your supplied power cord:

2 -Get your Leatherman (seriously, everyone should have one), if you don't have a Leatherman, scissors or a wire cutter will work as well Wink:

Just cut it! Make sure to cut the power supply end, not the end that should go into your power socket...

3 -Now strip the cut end. There should be three wires in there. EU power cables have a yellow/green wire, a blue wire and a brown wire. US power cables have a lighter blue, a grey and a black wire. Make sure to connect them to the power supply in the order I just told you. Like this:

Grab 5 of the barrel plug cords:

#1 and 2

#3 and 4

#5

Fully wired:

Power usage while idle, IE just the PSU:

Part 4: Setting up the controller

If you do not have wired internet available for the controller box you can easily setup a wireless bridge to run these or any other miners more reliably over wireless:
http://www.trendnet.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=180_TEW-432BRP
http://www.trendnet.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=230_TEW-651BR

I use one on my laser printer and have used dozens of the 432s for various projects.  I have a box of them here that I'm not using at the moment.

Plug in and TURN ON the usb HUB

Plug in the power and network to the TP-Link controller

*Depending on your network setup, grab the MAC address from the back of the controller:

Plug it all together like a disaster:

Find the IP assigned to your controller by reading your routers DHCP leases:

Visit the IP of the controller in a web browser

Fill in both the Scrypt and SHA pool information!

Don't leave the SHA pool blank!

Select enable on scrypt or scrypt and sha

Hit save

wait a while Smiley

Pool URL's include the stratum+tcp:// portion!

Install the correct automake version so cgminer builds
Code:
wget http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/ubuntu/pool/main/a/automake1.11/automake1.11_1.11.6-2_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i automake1.11_1.11.6-2_all.deb

Link the Jansson Libraries to fix:
Code:
./minerd: error while loading shared libraries: libjansson.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Code:
sudo ln -s /usr/local/lib/libjansson.* /usr/lib/

cd

Link the build directories for convenience:
Code:
ln -s ~/usb-miner/software/cpuminer ~/cpuminer
ln -s ~/usb-miner/software/cgminer ~/cgminer

If all went well you will have the miner installed.

Now DO NOT PLUGIN the USB yet just the power cable:

Code:
tail -f /var/log/syslog

Plug in the USB cable to the computer and device:

Syslog results

*You might have /dev/ttyUSBX not ttyACMX

If you don't want to run all of the miners as sudo/root
Code:
sudo usermod -G plugdev -a <username>
Where <username> is your username: sudo usermod -G plugdev -a miner

Now run the miner process:
Code:
sudo ./minerd --freq=600 --gc3355=/dev/ttyACM0  --url=stratum+tcp://middlecoin.com:3333 --userpass=13zKJjzxGpjbqJDAWAhFNHVqALqcsCWiat:x

Or using CGMiner Syntax

Code:
sudo ./minerd -F 600 -G /dev/ttyACM0  -o stratum+tcp://middlecoin.com:3333 -u 13zKJjzxGpjbqJDAWAhFNHVqALqcsCWiat -p x

It appears you can't combine devices to one line like this: (worldlybedouin,Powell)

Code:
sudo ./minerd -F 600 -G /dev/ttyACM0 -G /dev/ttyACM1  -G /dev/tACM2  -G /dev/ttyACM3  -G /dev/ttyACM4  -G /dev/ttyACM5  -G /dev/ttyACM6  -G /dev/ttyACM7  -G /dev/ttyACM8  -G /dev/ttyACM9 -o stratum+tcp://middlecoin.com:3333 -u 13zKJjzxGpjbqJDAWAhFNHVqALqcsCWiat -p x

I use dynamic pool files but something like this will work:

Code:
sudo -s
cd ~/usb-miner/software/cpuminer
for i in `seq 0 10`; do screen -dmS $i ./minerd -G /dev/ttyACM$i -F 800 -o stratum+tcp://stratum.scryptguild.com:3333 -u unicornhasher -px;done

SCREEN USAGE
In order to keep the miners running when you log off ssh you will need to use screen:

Code:
screen -ls
to list screens if you did not add your user to the plugdev group you may need to use
Code:
sudo screen -ls

Code:
screen -x xxxx.x
to join a screen

Press <ctrl> A <ctrl> D (or <ctrl> AD) to exit the screen session.  You can then exit the ssh session and the miners will continue to run.

YAY means YAY

How I run the 10 miners to 10 separate pools:
***WARNING: This assumes you use username miner and home path /home/miner ****
This also assumes that you have added your user to plugdev or are using root with (sudo -s)

1) Create 10 pool files named pool0.sh to pool9.sh
2) insert the FREQ NAME and POOL variables into each pool file
pool9.sh
Code:
NAME="miaviator"
POOL="-o stratum+tcp://middlecoin.com:3333 -u 13zKJjzxGpjbqJDAWAhFNHVqALqcsCWiat -p x"
FREQ="800"
3) make the mine.sh script to execute the miners
Code:
cat > mine.sh << EOF
count=0
for i in `ls /dev/ttyACM*`
do
source /home/miner/pool$count.sh
cd /home/miner/cpuminer/
screen -dmS $NAME ./minerd -F $FREQ -G $i $POOL
count=$((count+1))
done
EOF
chmod +x mine.sh

After running mine.sh for this hosting thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=471764.0 I have the following screens:

Part 5A.2: BTC Mode

or
Code:
--usb 001:009,001:013
etc.

Part 5A.3: BTC/Dual Mode

Once you turn on BTC mining you have to attache to the LTC proxy in order to mine in scrypt mode / dual mode.  Or unplug the devices and replug them so they show up as ttyACM# again?

Once you are running one or more devices in SHA mode you can start Scrypt mining in dual mode with:

Code:
./minerd -F 800 -o stratum+tcp://middlecoin.com:3333 -u 13zKJjzxGpjbqJDAWAhFNHVqALqcsCWiat -p x --dual

Can I run to 10 pools this way?  Let's find out.

MORE TO COME with power readings and speed/clock readings.

Part 6: Power Usage & Temps

Power usage is roughly the same when running from Windows, Linux, RPi the new software allows the devices to run in single mode from these platforms as well.

Power Usage and Speeds: Power is based on killowatt readings for the controller, USB hub and 10 devices using a Corsair AX1200 PSU.  Divide out the power factor for actual usage.  The speed reports are only based on a 5-10 minute sample time so add +/-10% variance.  You can see in the screen cap that the per device speed is completely crazy this is mostly the controller and device quality.

Power Supply Efficiency: Corsair AX1200 80 Plus GOLD

Disconnected from controller - Fans/Leds, PSU, Controller, HUB
61.2 Watts

SHA only mode.  It's not even worth testing these in SHA only mode so I have excluded it.

Freq 600 Dual Mode
~2.5Mh/s scrypt (Controller)
~1.5Mh/s scrypt (scryptguild)
~80Gh/s sha (eligius)

~383Kh/s scrypt (scryptguild)
~70Gh/s sha (eligius)

Not sure where the power went.  900 is even worse so the bulk spot is between 700 and 800 on this set.

Temps were really boring in dual mode.  The massive fan on these take away the heat very well which is new for an ASIC maker.  Ambient 74F-78F Max device core 96F outflow air 86-90F.

Scrypt Mode: The power supply will be under 88% efficiency most likely 80-85% if you want device wattage multiply the results by .85

Part 7: FAQ and things that need to be added

Q: I get ttyACMx vs ttyUSBx and no shares are submitted even though the miners work and pull from stratum
A: This is normal.  Some linux versions may give you ttyUSB vs ttyACM.  Shouldn't matter. Post if it does.

Q:  Cablez's page he mentions several sizes/types (2.1/5.5 vs. 2.5/5.5)
A: 2.5mm plug http://imgur.com/a/aviaS https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=74397.0

Q: you mention 11 of barrel plugs...I don't understand what the 11th one is for if I only have 10 miners
Plug # 11 is for the USB HUB !!! Awesome!

Q: Would you consider using Cablez's micro-USB to ATX PSU power cable as well?
I've never seen that, I'll put an order in and Yes!

Q: One thing though...    You say to throw away those PSU's that come with it and get a modular PSU capable of 600+ watts
A: I just buy modular cables from cablez here on BTC talk.  He can make just about anything for any power supply.  I plugged all 10 gridseeds and the hub directly into my corsair AX1200 using custom made modular plugs.  You could keep the included PSU's or use a really low wattage PSU to only run in scrypt mode.

Q: my devices won't mine and syslog spits out a bunch of modem manager lines:
Code:
sudo pkill /usr/sbin/modem-manager
sudo apt-get remove --purge modem-manager

Q: When I start cgminer/cpuminer/xxxminer no shares are submitted and syslog spits out some weird errors and I get these errors.  And libusbnot

Looking good!! This will come in handy when my units finally arrive on Monday... No idea why DHL doesn't deliver on Saturday

Also you can stick another barrel plug on that 8 pin pcie, since there are (4) Four 12v and (4) Four ground placements in that plug

There is some logical limit per PCI-E lead that would make 3 devices the max.  I actually have 4 per right now, and I was thinking about 10-20 per lead since these are such low wattage.  The power guys (Cablez) might be able to give more specifics.  Basically if you plug to many in and they ramp up to max power you could melt some wires and plugs.

This is really great work!  I'm happy someone with more skill than I is putting something like this together.  I've been participating in the Gridseed tech support thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=477709.0) so maybe I can ask questions, help out, etc.

Excellent tutorial hands down great work!

I'll have to donate for making such a good tutorial.

One thing though...    You say to throw away those PSU's that come with it and get a modular PSU capable of 600+ watts

Could you please explain how to hook this all up?     I know you posted what cords to get as well, but I couldn't tell how you hooked it all up with the picture provided.   any help is appreciated and again great tutorial!

Great work!

I am thinking about buying a few hundred of these round Asic miners.

1) What will be the best way to run as much miners as possible on one controller / PC / RPI?

2) What software would you use?

3) What power supply would you use?

Any input is more then welcome!

1: for over 100 I would use a PC with linux.  But I use PC's with linux for everything so not sure that's good advice.
2: the big miners will have support at some point.  Especially if lighteningasic stops being so effing greedy and releases firmware or devices and code to developers.  I offered to pay 1B for the ability to do multiple pools on the controller or run the devices in dual mode from linux.  That conversation ended quickly.
3: Again, I use AX1200's for everything so my opinion is really biased.  You could run at least 60 from an AX1200 or 1200i and hit peak power efficiency.

Cabling and space is always an issue with these gen 1's.  The same story with avalons, bfls, etc.  These things hog space because of cabling and the lack of a daisy chain feature.  I wouldn't waste time with hundreds until they come out with the 10 and 25 mhash boxes.  which are just these with a psu and boards daisy chained anyways.

1) What will be the best way to run as much miners as possible on one controller / PC / RPI?

1: for over 100 I would use a PC with linux.  But I use PC's with linux for everything so not sure that's good advice.

Personally I'd say unless you absolutely have to buy 100 of these now, then don't.  Just too much "stuff"...wires, miners, fan noise, controller firmware issues, etc.  According to Jack there's supposedly a ATX form-factor version of these coming out...I bet in that version they'll stop doing this inefficient round miner form factor and cram a bunch of these chips onto one or more boards.  That's when the Gridseed chips will really be worth it.

I had hoped that the these miners worked out better and even wanted to buy another set of 10 miners....but I won't be doing so after my current experience with them.  I wanted to retire my 3Mh gpu miner due to high power costs, but the way things have turned out looks like it'll be around at least for the next two months.

For now I'm just going to wait this out a bit longer...there's a few companies out there which are working on better specs and price points relative to these..so my meager few $ will stay in my pocket for a while.

Part 7: FAQ and things that need to be added

Q: I get ttyACMx vs ttyUSBx and no shares are submitted even though the miners work and pull from stratum
A: FML

Excellent work! I enjoyed reading it. Very thorough,,,but...I have a couple questions.
What does FML mean?
What are the commands for telling the miners to run Scrypt only or SHA and Scrypt simultaneously?
I'm running cpuminer 2.3.2 and using Winblows 7
I'm going to try the freq' to 850MHz
Tried 750 last night, hashes went south so I backed off. I was thinking of trying it, especially after finding and reading the mfg spec' sheets. They'll go even faster than 850, as I recall.
Thanks!

Having problems getting more than 1 to actually mine (no errors just only mines the last on the list).  Running Scripta on RPi and gridseed's cpuminer for OS/Miner.  Here is what I'm running to try to start up the 10 Gridseeds I have (my Version B Controller was crapped out from get go).

My .sh script to start

minerd -G /dev/ttyACM0 -G /dev/ttyACM1 -G /dev/ttyACM2 -G /dev/ttyACM3 -G /dev/ttyACM4 -G /dev/ttyACM5 -G /dev/ttyACM6 -G /dev/ttyACM7 -G /dev/ttyACM8 -G /dev/ttyACM9 --url=stratum+tcp://XXXXX:3333 --userpass=XXXX:X --freq=850
