I full heartedly agree with this decision. I think it will likely boost the average quality of content in posting. The Copper Membership is a good idea for anyone wishing to post pictures or keep their current posts alive as some of these posts may be important to businesses etc. However with the decision to implement stricter signature guidelines etc. I do think that we will see a lot less two or three word posts that have nothing to do with the project. Im excited to see how this affects the forums, I'm looking forward to more actual conversation!

I think you should consider the ability to buy merit for yourself. You can already effectively do this by way of purchasing a copper membership. Based upon the fact that well under 1% of active users have received a single merit, there need to be additional ways for people who do not post garbage to rank up.

Buying merit or normal ranks is like buying yourself a bunch of trophies to put on your shelf. It's stupid, and it's an insult to everyone who achieved it legitimately. I can't see ever doing that. I don't particularly mind letting people pay for some of the privileges of these things, such as with copper membership, but it should be a parallel system.

Copper membership is good. Now, if you want to participate in signature campaigns, you can either pay the $10-$20 for copper membership or accomplish the herculean task of making one good post. I don't think that it's unreasonable in either case.

If people are making good posts but are still struggling to get merit, then that's a problem with the merit system and should be fixed on my end. Demanding money in order to bypass a broken system would be really bad. But AFAICT the merit system actually is reasonably effective at identifying good posters.
My concern with the merit system is that I don't think it necessarily identifies "good" posters, but rather identifies posters whose opinions align with those who are considering awarding merit to a particular post.

My concerns are not necessarily regarding needing one merit to achieve Junior member status, in fact I would think it would be net beneficial to require a $10 payment to participate in a signature campaign, although a smaller nominal fee may be beneficial to prevent things like spambots and those who are getting paid to bump ANN threads, although changes to the ordering of threads is probably a better way to address the later issue.

My concern is more surrounding the number of merit required to rank from Member up to Full Member, and higher. Very few people to date have received sufficient merit to rank up to Full Member or higher. I would argue that if someone pays for the benefits of a Full Member status, they have incentives to continue to make not-garbage posts.

I don't think we should do away with the activity system, and believe that activity should continue to play a role in users' ranks.

I currently have received more merit than everyone in the forum except for 218 people, and I have not received sufficient merit to achieve Senior Member status, but am a Legendary member only because I was grandfathered in. However I have pretty much always been able to obtain above market rates for signature deals (even after receiving negative trust) when I have been active and been trying to actively sell my signature. Surely there are more than 220 people who make sufficiently good posts to be a Senior Member.

An ideal system in my view would be for someone to pay maybe a dollar to become a junior member (that would not allow signatures of any kind), pay $10-$20 to become a Member/Copper Member, and from there, can pay some additional amount to rank up further provided they have sufficient activity, perhaps even sufficient activity after becoming a Copper Member to become a Full Member, and so on.

Edit:changed full membership to senior member. However I have barely received sufficient merit to become a full member.

It is difficult to receive a Merit from members who have merit. If I say that there are many people selling their merit, do you believe it? .There are people who post hundreds of content but they do not receive any merit.

You're a perfect example to show why this was needed. You made 1160 posts without adding any value to this forum.
You call yourself a "bouty man", I call this spamming.

Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text.
Are these restrictions for those who have been demoted? "newbie wear sigature"[1]

- Reduced-accuracy link filtering
I translated this topic, but I didn't understand this part correctly, any help?

If it works, imposing restrictions like "Prevent newbie from posting in Altcoin boards" will solve the problem

This is certainly an excellent solution for fighting with spammers and bots, but it also hit users who do not deal with spam and do not have merits. Those like me. In this regard, I had to buy a copper member in order to wear a signature. I do not deal with spam (except bounty reports  Shocked), I write meaningful posts, but I did not get merit for it, apparently my posts are useless.

And I don't wanna to mess with the buying of merit, because I do not want to be banned. Now I just need to be more useful on the forum and try to write more informative posts.
Anyway, thanks for fighting spam.

By the way, if you want finally overcome the spam on the forum, you should forbid to post reports in the bounty threads and make it throught google form.

And you're not likely to receive a merit from members who have merit if your "content" is mostly bounty posts.

Personally, I think the merit issue for Jr.Member is very reasonable because that will help the forum become cleaner and restrict the cheater in the bounty, many will review their actions and contribute more positively and effectively to the forum. But in return, I still hope that the senior members and higher, even legends and veteran members, they should be positive and give merit to others if they are worthy because I see a lot of senior members ignoring those contributions, I can even say they are stingy and selfish when they are never encouraged for newbie or jr member

Full Member requires 100 Merit, you have earned 141. As of last Friday, 343 users have received 100 or more Merit (and 423 users received 90, which is enough if they started with 10 airdropped Merits).

I've seen rates of $1000 per week per thread for a "bumping service", and they used 35 different accounts to do this. A small payment per account isn't going to stop them.

are you happy jon?
@theymos: how can this user still have a signature? Is it only removed when someone reaches 30 Activity?
Update: I created a new account last week, that one still has signature and Personal Text. I kinda like it: a Newbie starts with some perks, and has 30 Activity to prove he's worth keeping it. If not, it disappears.

I tell you like this. . But here I say the merit is more precious than gold on the bitcointalk forum. Everyone wants to collect merit to improve their rankings on the forum. For those who have the merit of donating merit to others, it seems only in the dream. How is an article quality and proficiency to receive merit?

This decision is quite appalling seeing that a lot of us are stuck on Jr Members all these while only to be demoted to Newbie.

I have made several quality comments, I've attended to issues judiciously without any form of mistakes, I have also been an active participant on Bitcointalk. The most annoying part of it all is, no moderator has given me merit before.

I have complained over and over, my comments have been highly recommended yet, I've not ascertained any merit till date.

I wish the 36 merit sources will be good in their judgements and reward us accordingly.

Thanks

I think you do so right, there are now many fraudulent projects, posting some unreasonable post. I have a small suggestion that all projects or discussions on an issue need to be reviewed before posting to avoid spam. Thank for new rules by admin Smiley

Moderators should like this

More proof why we need a merit requirement to become a Junior. Nuked the Newbie but not going to waste ten minutes deleting all the posts of the Junior.
