I would like a copy of the demotion list.  I am willing to read  all the posts to  see if some should get a merit.

Please make this move, we truly aware of merit but we are happy to be here not begging for merit, Jr. Member are enough for us for some reason that most of good projects are required atleast Jr. Member to joined, some of people got demoted has nothing in bad intention they are only doing a bounties. I think posting reports weekly are not spamming the entire community. We don't need to be well known here, we just want to reconsider this kind of situation. we are not beggers and we are following rules here.

Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text.

Note that this does not affect:
 - PM rate-limiting, which is based purely on activity & whitelisted status.
 - "You must wait ___ seconds...", which is based purely on activity & whitelisted status.

But it does affect:
 - Voting in polls
 - Patroller jurisdiction
 - The "ignore newbie PMs" option.
 - "The body is omitted from this email because the sender is a newbie."
 - BBCode limits
 - Reduced-accuracy link filtering
 - Board restrictions

Many of these limitations can be eliminated with a copper membership. In particular, you can set a signature at Member level if you wear a copper membership.

One reason that I was hesitant to do this before is that there are an awful lot of newbie restrictions, and I don't want the forum to be unwelcoming to good newbies. I'll think about tying some of those to activity instead of rank in the future.

With help from DdmrDdmr, I just added 36 new merit sources, which should help newbies achieve the requirement. But if you're incapable of posting anything worthwhile, then you will never rank up, and you shouldn't: this isn't the forum for you.
Friends. This is the official branch of the crypto coin and the veros project.  How can you compare official account project with a regular user account???. Was 80 posts and 6 months account. We can't do flood. We don't have time for this. Account was downgraded to Newbie. We are engaged in the creation of a platform aimed at raising funds for charity and environmental protection. Do You know how hard it is to do this?! Because nobody cares. Friends you have all okay?

You can still do your hard work with the Newbie account, you're not banned. If you want to post images and have a signature you can buy Copper membership.

I think you're looking at a few million posts to read. You'll go crazy from the lack of quality. I have no doubt some of those millions of posts deserves Merit, but it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

Buying merit or normal ranks is like buying yourself a bunch of trophies to put on your shelf. It's stupid, and it's an insult to everyone who achieved it legitimately...

Copper membership is good. Now, if you want to participate in signature campaigns, you can either pay the $10-$20 for copper membership or accomplish the herculean task of making one good post. I don't think that it's unreasonable in either case.

If people are making good posts but are still struggling to get merit, then that's a problem with the merit system and should be fixed on my end. Demanding money in order to bypass a broken system would be really bad. But AFAICT the merit system actually is reasonably effective at identifying good posters.

Sorry to be posting with my newbie account, but it isn't hard to figure out that... the system is indeed NOT working. Most do not even know the difference between merit and meritS, unless that has changed as well. Additionally, it's not like there are 'rovers' or 'patrollers', whatever the correct term, that actually go around into different threads to search for "well written" posts and decide to award the poster merit. Not to my knowledge anyway. I think there is, and has been, an inner circle of the bitcointalk 'court' ever trying to maintain their top status here without regards to the quality of other posters.

I'm not speaking about spam posts, nobody likes or wants those here, or on individual forums within a particular coin's website. But if you wish for your forum site to grow, in membership size, this is a horrible and inequitable mistake. There ought to have been your special 'merit givers' going into threads, on maybe a random basis and actually looking for well written posts BY NEWBIES to reward them for the post quality as well as to teach, or lead, by example in doing so. Recruit new member simply be rewarding merit to those who are new, and signing up on their own accord, but writing good posts. They ought not to have written a brochure, but a post.

I can't help but notice each time I browse in a thread with members such as those in the upper ranks discussing more ways to set rules, or debate about other issues that affect or pertain to status levels and merit do I see such merit flowing freely... between 'friends' and given to posters for mediocre posts, not based on the same standard of what would be considered a "quality, merit deserving, post" to better themselves and continually rank up, as with LIKES on other sites as follows:

Merited by yahoo62278 (10), EFS (6), Cyrus (5), mprep (5), hilariousandco (5), fcmatt (5), krishnapramod (5), abel1337 (5), o_e_l_e_o (5), paxmao (5), suchmoon (4), cissrawk (4), pugman (2), SFR10 (2), dinda22 (2), DarkStar_ (2), Aleister Crowley (2), iasenko (2), pawel7777 (1), NeuroticFish (1), sapta (1), chris200x9 (1), LoyceV (1), examplens (1), Lafu (1), AngelSky (1), andycarrol (1), Be_Happy (1), Arteezy.rtx (1), mu_enrico (1), abhiseshakana (1), Coolcryptovator (1), morvillz7z (1), mightwalker (1), vphasitha01 (1), as9ardia (1), Dont trust for money (1)

May this be the beginning of the demise of bitcointalk.org. Bitcoin is not dying out, but thousands of other cryptocurrencies exist, albeit most start-ups so most will fail however several hundred will remain.

There are: bitcoingarden and altcoinstalks, both of which are great for altcoins

It's a great update on the system. I have no merit yet, because my posts are related to my small mining pool.
After checking your post history, I believe you're right. I'm no expert on mining, so I wouldn't know which post deserves Merit the most. Hence, I'll Merit your post in this thread. Welcome back to Jr. Member.

I knew that now all come in Meta and a flood of complaints and other things come as written in my first post! Nevertheless, I find the change very good and conducive to the forum, anyone who wants to achieve something should work for it (even), in this case for newbies who come out of their house a few times and show that one of their posts is worth the merit! Also, I am willing if a good informative post is seen by me possibly rewarding it with merit.

Good luck for all the good newbie users "Will Force of the Good Posts with you"

This is for the better, if you ask me. There were just too many fake accounts and bot accounts. The only problem is that it is very hard to acquire merit. I am stuck at 10 merit for almost a year now lol how come?

I get it that you guys are trying possible hard to get rid of low quality posts and people who try to scam this forum, but I don't think the idea of Newbies needing just one merit to promote them to Jr member is great. Why not 5 smerits ?  Another problem I have seen on this forum is that people with good quality posts do not get merit for their posts or comments. Why is that so?. If you really want to increase the number of quality posts and comments, I think people with good quality posts and comments need to be rewarded with merit....

What's sad is the spamfest going on in this forum.

You can fix your Newbie problem (whatever it is - you still haven't provided any specific reason why it's important for you to be a Jr. Member) by making one good post that earns you one merit. Not really the same scale as the fall of the Roman Empire.

I hope it will help reduce spam a little bit, but unfortunately for account farmers, 1 merit is not a big deal they always can buy it.
If this post qualifies to receive merits, I believe a lot of posts on this forum also deserve to be awarded a merit. I don't think this your merit system is fair. I'm just sad and disappointed

What ruined the Roman Empire?  Complacency and a horde of Huns.  Think of all those spam bots as the Huns, and Theymos is obviously done being complacent.

Don't expect gettin' merit in the alternate cryptocurrency board especially in the token & bounties sub...

@ legit users don't worry, this restriction will be easily skipped
@ spammers : I don't know why but this is what come to my mind in the first place - moments before the disaster -

My forum Position: Newbie. and I am happy with this. There are so many a/c who are create only a/c for work bounty. Also the have  multiple a/c. Hope administration of Bitcointalk be strict. Increase a/c rank by its activity  & merit. Also there are some good account who are now Newbie rank for they dont have merit. So, request to all merit holder Member please also observe good a/c & bad a/c If you think any a/c are good by its activity please share your minimum merit. Otherwise any Newbie can't promoted as Jr. Member.

They will find you instead if you make valuable and contributive posts..

I believe the 36 sources were added in sections with poor merit source coverage from the 'old' merit sources.
