The target should be to get test status somewhere in the next 5 to 10 years. The funding will increase by 50x if they are able to do that. But the issue is that if they fail to qualify for the main phase, then they will never be considered for the test status. Ireland got the test status after they performed exceptionally well in the ICC tournaments.

Unless they are able to pick the best team and groom new players which will take some time, they will be struggling in the upcoming ODI World Cup as well.

The better team won in the end. Ireland deserved this win. West Indies do have some of the best T20 players in their squad, but their team bonding is not very good. On top of that, their bowlers were very wayward. Alzarri Joseph is one of the fastest bowlers in the world right now, but he was quite expensive yesterday. Only the experienced Jason Holder could contain the Ireland batsmen. And Paul Stirling, who was out of form for so long batted exceptionally well along with another out of form batsmen, Andy Balbirnie. And it sealed the fate of West Indies.

We all know West Indies players are very experienced for T20 format. West Indies squad has many outstanding batsmen and bowlers. And almost everyone is a specialist for T20 format. But players have lost consistency in their performances. No batsman in the West Indies squad is playing consistently well. Due to batting weakness, West Indies have fallen further behind.
