I shocked when I saw that IPL has been stopped since the virus entered into more teams and in my opinion, it will take at least 2 to 3 months to resume the matches again if they want to continue the matches in India, or else they should move the tournament to UAE or another country which is also less likely to happen.

BCCI and Franchises will take care of the players because they got enough money to keep everyone in the hotels for years so no need to worry about them.

BCCI made the mistake of conducting the matches in India, when the pandemic was at its peak. Now they should properly compensate the players, especially those from the foreign nations. The BCCI bosses (especially Ganguly and Shah) are responsible for this situation, as they never considered any factor other than making money. Now at least they should move the T20 World Cup to the UAE. India is not in a condition to host any major tournament under current conditions.
The peak will be reduced in the next week or two so the condition will become normal in 2 months maximum so they will be good to conduct the tournaments if everything goes normally.

I don't know about the IPl contract between the players where is something related to such emergency compensation is available but they paid good amount at the auction so they will also be happy with the money they got as long as BCCI is taking all the expenses until the IPL resumes.

How can we be so sure about the condition becoming normal in another 2 months? None of the medical experts could predict the huge spike in April, when the number of cases went up by 30-40 times all of a sudden. So what is the guarantee that another spike won't occur when the tournament is underway in October? And we need to remember that the World Cup involves 16 teams. The BCCI had difficulty in managing a tournament which involved just 8 teams and now they want to host the world cup?

There seems to be some disagreement between the ICC and the BCCI regarding the T20 World Cup. The ICC wants to move the event to Dubai as soon as possible, but the BCCI want them to wait for a few more weeks at least, saying that the tournament is many months away. On this, I would side with the ICC. It has been proven now that the BCCI cares only about money and not a bit about the well being of the players. So ICC is absolutely right in their demand to move the tournament outside India.

It is not a condition that happened all of a sudden, here in my country the government took precaution and placed precautionary measures as the virus kept on mutating and all the health experts were warning about this for months and if Indian government did not hear this then it is the fault of your government as i have seen horrible visuals what is happening in India and i was actually surprised that the tournament is underway.

So what is the guarantee that another spike won't occur when the tournament is underway in October? And we need to remember that the World Cup involves 16 teams. The BCCI had difficulty in managing a tournament which involved just 8 teams and now they want to host the world cup?
There is no guarantee that another spike will not happen because the virus is mutating and there is a doubt that the vaccines we have now will not help with some of the variants which is scary.

India is a country with 1.4 billion people and it is always easy to blame the government when the people themselves are responsible for this situation. No one predicted this jump in the infections and by March, the daily number of cases was as low as 8,000. This has jumped to 350,000-400,000. But the BCCI was wrong to conduct the tournament in a country where the vaccination drive covered only 2% of the population. The advantage with UAE is that a majority of the population there have been vaccinated.

Both the central and state government are responsible for the present situation. They both created an atmosphere before April this year that everything was normal. Indians actually bought this and were very casuals towards the pandemic. Now the situation has gone so bad that more people are now dying of fear than the actual disease. The media, on the other hand, has been very irresponsible, their main aim now is to create more fear among everyone.

Most states are in lockdown and I guess they will remain until the end of June or early August. A lot of people are out of job and the next thing you will hear in the news is people dying because of hunger.

The central government has refused the opposition demand for a countrywide lockdown. I think this is justified, as states such as Assam and Tripura has the pandemic under control when compared to the states where it was mismanaged (Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat.etc). If the lockdown is imposed, it should be imposed only on those states which mismanaged the crisis. Why should states such as Assam suffer from the irresponsible behavior by other state governments? BTW, cricket at any level is simply not possible at least for the next 2-3 months. So if you are looking for a resumption of the IPL anytime soon, then you will be disappointed.

The BCCI should have hosted the IPL in the UAE like the previous season. Or arrange in both countries. Then IPL would not have to be stopped now. However, no one could have imagined that the second wave of coronavirus in India would take such a terrible form. Hopefully very soon the situation will return to normal and the IPL will start again in compliance with the health restrictions.

They were just overconfident. At least they could have analyzed what happened during the PSL. What is the point in insisting that the tournament should be held in India, despite the fact that spectators are not allowed? If gate collection is zero, then what difference it makes whether the tournament is held in the UAE or India? The BCCI committed a major blunder this time, and that is going to cause them hundreds of USD in losses. On top of that, some of the international players are going to rethink about their participation in the future.

I doubt that if any international players are going to think about this in future. Once situation gets under control, it would be business as usual like nothing happen. Big checks always matter.

BCCI got wrapped up in securing WC hosting rights and end up shooting on foot.

I doubt that if any international players are going to think about this in future. Once situation gets under control, it would be business as usual like nothing happen. Big checks always matter.

BCCI got wrapped up in securing WC hosting rights and end up shooting on foot.

The ICC guys are going to be very happy. To start with, they were not happy with the tournament being staged in India, because whatever revenue is generated, some 45% will be taken away as tax. And secondly, the BCCI was so vocal in its opposition to an additional ICC global tournament. Even the other big 3 countries were taking a more moderate opinion on this issue, but the BCCI created a lot of headache for the ICC and heartburn for the poorer test nations. Now the poorer nations will be laughing at the state of the BCCI.

@JSRAW the BCCI is already planning to organise the IPL again in September, and this time I feel that fans will be allowed back in the stadium. Also as much as we disagree with IPL being organised now, it’s pertinent to note that other nations too get paid from this tournament, hence I don’t think that they’ll be happy that it got postponed.

^^^ I don't think that the other boards will be negatively impacted. The "player release fee" is not significant for boards other than Australia, England, New Zealand and South Africa. Even for these boards, it makes up only 1% or 2% of their annual revenue. For the smaller boards such as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, too few of their players are taking part in the IPL and their auction amount is too low to make any real impact. On the other hand, the BCCI's opposition to the additional global event can cause them as much as $20 million reduction in the funds over the 8-year period.

Don't know if any big nations or associate nations had any problem with BCCI hosting the WC, its just that covid changed the scenario and BCCI about to lose a hosting right. As far as Tax fiasco is concern i think it got resolved, after so much discussion and drama BCCI agreed to pay tax on icc behalf.

OK.. so BCCI will bear the tax burden and ICC should be happy now. But I still don't understand why the BCCI want to host this event so badly. Spectators are not allowed, since the (full) vaccination is only 3% done. If the event is hosted in the UAE, then spectators can be allowed as half the population of UAE is now fully vaccinated. Why the BCCI is trying so hard for an event, where it will receive zero gate collection?

It was BCCI turn to host WC. Things were looking fairly okay last month or so, it looked like India got it shit together with the covid. Full lockdown was hard on the economy and WC is schedule in NOV so there was some hope of spectators going into the standium etc. Considering all things happens in recent month it was obvious that they were trying hard for the WC as any world event is good for the economy, one of the major reason they hosted IPL in India as test, which failed royally.

After failing royally in conducted the IPL successfully there are discussions about shifting the T20 World Cup to UAE, the BCCI has to take that decision and it is difficult to predict what the situation would be a few months from now but still they can move the T20 World Cup to UAE and hopefully conduct them successfully. I hope the government will be more cautious from now on after seeing the lapses due to complacent decisions by the central government and hope they will not repeat that again.

I can understand. But IMO, they should not take any more risk as the BCCI is having egg on their face. The T20 world cup involves a total of 16 teams and it will be impossible to host that tournament in India. They need to move it to UAE as soon as possible. October is not that far away. The current spike is going to last for at least 1-2 months, and I am not expecting any respite before July-August. The vaccination program has also slowed down considerably.

If you are conducting matches in overseas stadiums then you need to pay for the stadium as well means you will get less revenue compared to the match happening in India, originally IPL was planned to conduct with the spectators because there is no covid cases at all when BCCI planned all these things because they thought that it will bring more revenue to them over last year IPL.

I think now its quite clear that India is not hosting any WC this year. BCCI officials were delaying the final confirmation to ICC regarding WC but after IPL drama they already lost the little leverage they had under their belt. Now it would be ridiculous if BCCI making new excuses.
