Dhoni may be a better captain when compared to Kohli, but I don't think that he is among the best. During the last year's IPL, he insisted on including players such as Kedar Jadhav in the squad, which resulted in many losses for the CSK, in matches which they could have otherwise won easily. He was one of the best 5 years back, but not now.
MSD not among the best? Lol. This guy smartly transformed the Cricket structure in India through his tactical brilliance. He was already proclaimed as a legend in the Cricketing world long back when India won the World Cup.

No captain is perfect. He is human. Their performance last year was abysmal indeed, but look how they bounced back this year. The CSK management could have replaced like him like what SRH did to Warner, but they chose to trust him and look what happened.

Check my post again. I was saying that he was one of the best five years back. But nowadays, his tactics are not that good. If he was that good, then why CSK was in such pathetic position during last year's IPL? And let's not forget the fact that Dhoni was directly responsible for some of CSK's losses last year. In many of the matches where CSK was chasing the targets, the combination of Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav slowed down the chase and made sure that CSK loses the match.

Last year CSK was struggling because of the changes that happened in the end and some of the players were struggling with form but this year they changed the team and now they are the best team in the competition and the matches they played it looked like they could reach the finals, it is a completely changed approach while some of the teams are still struggling to win matches consistently and even though MSD did not contribute with the bat his captaincy is excellent.

From what I heard, the BCCI is planning to conduct the remainder of the IPL sometime in September, just before the T20 World Cup. The BCCI bosses (at least some of them) believe that it may still be possible to stage the remaining 31 matches in India (although Ganguly is against this idea). Can the situation change a lot in 2-3 months? I don't think so. And they are also trying their best to conduct the T20 World Cup in India, which is a stupid idea.
There is a complete lock down in different states and you can only hope that everything will be fine in the next couple of months, which i  think is wishful thinking and even if the situation calms down from the pathetic stage we are in right now, we should anticipate another wave and i do not think we will be back to normal in the near future.
The BCCI was confident in conducting the IPL and it failed big time and i think if they want to conduct the IPL and the T20 World cup here in India i am not sure whether they can do that successfully.

The BCCI organized the IPL very carefully and in compliance with the health restrictions. The board has spent a lot of money to ensure that players and management people are not infected with the corona virus. But still the corona virus could not prevent the infection. In this situation, I do not think it is possible to host the IPL or T20 World Cup in India.

A lot of money is involved and that is why the section of BCCI which is made up of former players (such as Ganguly) wants the matches to be shifted to the UAE, while the other section is opposing it. Now the COVID 19 cases in India seems to have peaked. But that doesn't mean that the number of active cases will reduce by 90% overnight. It will be a gradual reduction and may take some time to get back to normal. The BCCI officials are pushing too hard, and in the end it will create issues for the organizers and TV broadcasters.

I would have picked KL Rahul in the place of Shikar Dawan or Prithvi Shaw. Also, Kohli is for skipper.
What are your choices?
On that list, except Sanju Samson, all others are seeming like a good selection. For the case of Sanju Samson, he is not performing consistently how other wicket keepers are doing; so in place of Sanju Samson, I may prefer Butler or KL Rahul who could bat well along with wicket keeping.

Findings of this year's IPL must be, Prithivi Shaw from DC and Chetan Sarkaria from RR. Padikkal from RCB performed well last year as well and this year hit a century but might need to prove his consistency to be consider a cut above Prithvi Shaw for opening.

Samson was a very poor choice for wicket keeper. For me, Rishabh Pant is the automatic pick (although Rahul and Buttler are not that bad either). Now Devdutt Padikkal is someone who in my eyes represent the future for India. Unfortunately the selectors have ignored him for quite a long time. Almost all the other youngsters have got a chance to represent India, but Devdutt is still waiting for his chance. Perhaps he doesn't have powerful backers in national team unlike the case with some of the other younger players.

Devdutt Padikkal is still a young player. It is better not to give him a chance in the national team now. He is talented enough. He needs to be more prepared to serve the Indian cricket team for a long time. If given a chance in the national team without being properly prepared, this talent is likely to be lost soon. We saw a lot of cricketers, after great performances in the IPL, they were given a chance in the national team. But they were not able to play well in the national team.

Here you go... BCCI again scheduling another bilateral series with Sri Lanka.

Interesting thing to notice is they are sending only White ball specialist players as Virat and his test team would be in England hence 2 different team set up (good for work load management as well). Rahul Dravid is also traveling with them.

India to tour Sri Lanka in July for six white-ball games

So basically BCCI has unofficially divided Indian team into two parts. One a Test side, which will be playing the test world cup in August and the other team which will be playing the Srilanka series in July. This means IPL might happen in June but where??
I do fancy this idea of having 2 different team set up for Red/Pink and White ball cricket. It has its fair share of benefits such as Work load management or Players could become Test-ODI/T-20 specialist and focus accordingly. It also have some cons like fans loyalties or effect on revenue when both team playing at the same time.

I don't care much about IPL anymore, at least this season.

LOL.. then why this rule is not applicable to players such as Shaw and Gill? Devdutt is performing really well in the domestic cricket for quite sometime now. He deserves a slot in the national team. On the other hand, Shaw and Gill have wasted whatever opportunity given to them. Another player who deserve a chance right now is Ishan Kishan. He was given just one or two chances and then he was dropped. The selection policy for the national team needs to be consistent.

This is current talent pool of Indian cricket. Its good to have such kind headache but it poses challenges too like how to select your best XI. Ofc their would be some bias and some players might feel neglected in the process, might look unfair to us but that's how things work in the real world, nothing is fair.

There needs to be a separate selection board and the captain and coach needs to be removed from the selection panel. I don't want to blame Kohli and Damaadji, because they were not the ones who started it. Kohli himself suffered a lot due to the "CSK quota", but now he is doing the same when he has the power. And rather than his poor tactics, this is one of the reasons why I want Kohli out of the captaincy. IMO, someone like Shreyas Iyer may be more suited for that role.

@Vishnu.Reang the current scenario of Indian team selection can be summed up by the below quote:

Quote

Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Also I doubt that Kohli and the future Indian captain will give up such kind of power, and unless BCCI decides to take it away I doubt we will ever see fair selections being made. Lastly it’s not guaranteed that Iyer will make selections on merits, because I thought the same when Kohli became the captain but we all saw how it ended.

Any news on the resumption of PSL? The PCB was initially claiming that the tournament will resume by early next month in UAE. But that looks doubtful now, as UAE has imposed a travel ban on individuals from Pakistan. And apart from the UAE, I don't think that the tournament can be hosted elsewhere. Some 20 matches remains to be played in PSL 2021, and the PCB was in talks with the Emirates Cricket Board to resume it soon. There is another suggestion to play the remaining matches in Sri Lanka, but I don't think that it is practical.

Do you remember Rabin Uthappa and Manish Pandya? After a stellar performance in the IPL, they were given the opportunity to play for the Indian national team. But now we can't see them in the national team, why? In the same way, if Padikkal gets a chance in the national team before he prepares himself properly, then this extraordinary talent will be lost in a few days.

There are rumors that the IPL 2022 will be featuring 10 teams. The BCCI is in desperate need of cash, as the cancellation of IPL 2021 has left them with a hole of ₹25 billion. The addition of two teams should bring enough money to the board, to neutralize any losses from this year. Also, a mega player auction is scheduled for next year. Since some of the corporate billionaires such as Adani are interested in an IPL franchise, I strongly suspect that one of the teams may be from Gujarat. The second one may be either from Uttar Pradesh, or Madhya Pradesh.

He accepted that, they don't have the right combination of players and their early losses in the league put their confidence was low, I agree that kedhar Jadhav was given to much chances but don't forget that he won a trophy for CSK one time which is why MSD believed him. But at the end of 2020 league matches they found a diamond called Ruturaj Gaikwod who gave the best partnership with destructive Faf.

Maybe this is going to be true, not a rumors. I have read few many news/articles about it. BCCI have taken this decision in one of their recent meeting. And they going to sanctioned the new team through tender. So we can't surely guess the new team names. Looks like BCCI going to have nice profit by arranging this method of choosing new teams.

Yes, it's likely to happen but what states are going to be included? Does anyone have an idea about it?

If I am not wrong once IPL hosted with 9 teams which includes Kerala but they never appeared anymore.
