The PSL so far has been a mixed bag for the overseas players. A few of them have performed exceptionally well, such as Colin Munro, James Faulkner and Tim David. But there have been a few disappointments as well. Examples are Rilee Rossouw and Ben Dunk. A lot was expected from them, but these players seems to be struggling to adjust to the bubble life and the conditions at UAE. Chadwick Walton of Karachi Kings is another player whose performance has been unsatisfactory so far.

The reason for the mixed performance by the overseas players could be the change in venue. When half of the tournament is played in one country and the rest of the tournament is played in different country, sometime it is difficult to keep the same form. Its not easy to adjust in all conditions so quickly.

If they are able to save 43% of tax it is a huge number and they do not need to complain further and look for alternatives.

The government also needs to think about it. Once of the reason why the ICC was not very keen to allow India to host the tournament was due to the fact that the tax rate is too high there. Most of the countries grant tax exemption to global sporting events, but India never does that. The government needs to realize that there is a lot of indirect benefit from hosting such tournaments, and they can generate a lot of jobs and improve the tourist potential. And also, the generation of indirect taxes also needs to be taken in to account.

What can you expect from a third world country? Government wants a piece of everything in India. They say it is for the benefits of the citizen. To an extent it is true, but not all. The best they should do is reduced the tax. I agree that 43 percent is a big number, they should be realistic and think about other benefits that tournament like this bring to the country.

I thought that India could not host the tournament at the moment because of the pandemic situation there. I don't think any country will refuse to host the tournament in their own country because of more taxes etc. The monetary benefits which comes with hosting, can take over all the taxes.

Whenever such big sporting events are organized in a country the biggest earning comes through tourism but looking at the present pandemic situation that would be negligible. Another benefit is indirect job creation but I cannot comment on that considering the situation. The only way Indian government can make some money is I think through taxes but the percentage is huge. They should think about the future and not the present situation.

I am now enjoying the match between Islamabad United and Multan Sultans, the two strongest teams in PSL. At the end of 16 overs, the players of Multas Sultans scored 132 runs,by losing 4 wickets. Sohaib Maqsood is unbeaten on 55 runs. I think Multan Sultans will be able to collect 175 runs. And it's a big target for any strong team. But the batsmen of the Islamabad team are experienced enough and they are in form now. So, the result of this match is hard to guess right now.

You are right. The emergence of such a talent from Zimbabwe is truly astonishing. Earlier the Zimbabwe team was strong enough. They fought hard against big teams. Now they are very weak. Hopefully there will be more talented players like Muzarabani in the Zimbabwe team and Zimbabwe will regain their old glory.

Emergence of indigenous cricketers such as Blessing Muzarabani is good news for the future of Zimbabwe cricket. They can't depend on the white community for cricket, because the white population has gone down from 300,000 to 25,000 in the last four decades. And the outflow of white cricketers from Zimbabwe is not a recent phenomenon. Graeme Hick, one of the best English players of the 80s was born in Zimbabwe and changed his nationality later. Recent examples include Sam Curran, Colin de Grandhomme and Gary Ballance.

When indigenous players such as Trevor Madondo and Pommie Mbangwa represented Zimbabwe for the first time, it was considered as an exception. Because back then, cricket was largely considered as a white sport in Zimbabwe. Henry Olonga was the first black to play for Zimbabwe, but he was born in Zambia to a Kenyan father.

Anyway, IU lost the match by a good margin, with Hazratullah Zazai and Jonathan Wells destroying the United bowlers and putting up a partnership of 126 runs for the second wicket. The problem with United is that they are overdependent on a few individual players (Usman Khawaja, Colin Munro, Hasan Ali.etc), with the rest hardly contributing.

@Sithara007 that’s the beauty of T20 matches because you cannot rule out anyone, and hence I wager limited bets on T20 fixtures. Furthermore I’m not really wagering on PSL due to lack of information about the teams, hence if someone here can share detailed information and their predictions it’ll help us all make informed decisions regarding PSL fixtures.

Surprising that no one is really talking about the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled for October. All the discussion has been focussed on the franchise T20 leagues. BTW, from 2024 onwards, the T20 World Cup is going to feature 20 teams (4 groups with 5 teams each). But my concern is that instead of genuine teams such as Scotland, Netherlands, Nepal, PNG and Kenya, we will be having teams from Kuwait, Qatar.etc, which will be entirely made up of foreign nationals. The USACA is also recruiting a lot of first class players from India, Pakistan and South Africa nowadays. The eligibility rules need to be tightened, or else only the richest boards will be able to participate in these tournaments.

There is no benefit for the Islamabad to remain focus on their performance, because the lost have eliminated them out of the tournament. Peshawar Zalmi played incredibly well and it was not possible for Islamabad to save the match although they managed to score decent in this eliminator match.

Anyway, congratulations to the PCB, for organizing the second phase of the PSL in such an organized manner. They faced a lot of criticism for the bubble breach in the first phase. But they made sure that the mistakes were not repeated. And congratulations to the Emirates Cricket Board as well. After a gap of two decades, the UAE is once again emerging as a major cricket hub.
