Looks like Bitmain posted an update that the Ethereum ASIC they sold the E3 is at its end of life due to lack of memory for the growing DAG.
I find it very suspicious that the day that the E3 stopped working on ETC was the same day that we got the go ahead with ProgPOW for ETH. Maybe it's a coincidence.
Will this have a big effect? Who knows. Any idea how many E3 were built? So far the ETC hashrate has actually increased when the E3 could no longer mine it. Basically variance. The real tell tale sign will be when ETH hits the same Epoch in like 45 days or so.
Anyone care to guess how many of these are actually on the network?

lets hope they were 30 to 40% of the network.

So seems like a repeat of last Summer. Basically we had 12 days of semi-decent profit for home ETH mining and now again its reaching the point of mining revenue going mostly due to electrical costs. Only people that benefit are people with cheap or free power.
I think that the tide might turn because we have 3 events looking forward to profitable mining.
1) BTC halving - If BTC can break the 2019 or 2017 ATH then I am assuming there will be FOMO in ETH.
2) Antminer E3 - In about 40 days they won't be able to mine ETH. Hopefully there are many of these E3's that free up the difficulty
3) ProgPOW - Going live in July 2020. Should eliminate the other brand of ETH asics which are more powerful.

If progpow boosts the earnings of a 1080ti to $2.00 a day things will be very interesting. I still have : 1 rig with 1x 1080, 2x 1070, 1 x 1660ti 2 rigs with 4x 1080ti 3 rigs with 2x 1080ti so 14 1080ti and the lessor gpus 18 in all I also have 8 rigs mining xmr with 1 card it think it is 4x vegas 56 1x 1080ti 4 1660 9 cards total grand total 27 cards and 8 cpus

Btc halving doesn't matter when futures with x125 leverage is introduced, you don't need real btc to trade it

Rx 5700 are great at c31 and I bet they will develop a good progpal miner for them. 100 watts and 1.15 gps on c31 is great very efficient.

You can bet that there is A LOT of Innosilicon A10 ETHMaster and Antminer E3 on network currently. I think speed (and therefore difficulty) will drop at least 50%.

Currently 182,000 GH/s is the network hashrate, that would mean that 91,000GH/s are ASICs which if using the 180MH/s E3 miner equals around half a million of those ASICs, could Bitmain actually build that many? From what I remember about the ASIC, it used regular computer memory either DDR3 or DDR2 and it has issues getting supply of this memory. There is 18 ASICs per E3 per 4GB so about 72 DDR2 memory per ASIC. And this is old memory, probably not produced anymore. Hence they probably had issues getting a hold of it. DDR3 was just too expensive at the time.

yes, no way 50%, but MAYBE 20, and that is ALOT of hash A ProgPOW fork is gonna be supperrr interesting! Wonder if I should scoop up some nVidia cards on eBay..
I have a bunch of GTX R9-390-8GBs in the store room --- are they any good for progpow? ProgPow will run on most anything 8+GB really, (it runs on alot of 4gb stuff as well IIRC) its more so just a question of at what temperature and wattage its hard alot of development from alot of different people across AMD and Nvidia, and i would imagine Claymore will throw his hat in the ring for this as well (if i was him, i would have it rdy by launch probably?)

Seems a few of these Antminer E3 are showing up on eBay already. There are even many people bidding on them.
One of them is at $188 USD currently and claims to be able to mine "ETH/ETC" which seems like false advertising since they can't mine ETC anymore. The seller stated also "No returns or exchanges"
Another is at $1500 USD and claims to be new in the box. Anyone remember the retail price for these? Wasn't it like $800 USD when they were new? Pretty sure it will never sell.
Last one is at $278 USD and will probably go even higher as there are still over 1.5 days of auction left.
So assuming 30 days of mining left for ETH, it would make a profit of $100 assuming free electricity. With 10 cent power profit would be able half of that, $50.
The problem with eBay is that its more than likely that the buyers will just make a claim and send it back when they find out that it won't mine ETH anymore. This similar situation happened back in 2016 with the BTC halving.

I tend to run the fans harder to keep temperature lower. The thing with fans is the're very dependant on the brand. I haven't had a fan fail yet, a 750ti is a little sticky starting up but then it's ok. The 750ti's are still the most efficient GPUs I have but they can't mine many new algos. Are there any open source progpow miners out there? FOS seems to be hard to find nowadays.

ProgPOW actually as an algo is memory agnostic, so it will run just as well on a 2GB card. Its just that in its current iteration in the test miners its well optimised for Cuda but not so well for GCN so does better on Nvidia cards. That can ofcource change if AMD and the miners devs work together, but seeing how dead the home mining scene is I doubt AMD is going to care.
