Two cards are not cheap. Cant find a lot of choice.

I would buy a samsung usb stick disconnect the hdd and run simplemining.net  software.

they charge two bucks a month for a rig.

maybe you can find some 5500 xt 8gb cards for 220 each new.

best buy has them msi 5500 xt 8gb

 205 usd so 2 for 410.

they will sell out.

they are a good fit for your rig.

low power.

27+27=54 mh

about 1.75 usd a day.  rig should pull 200-230 watts. or 5-6kwatts a day.

at 14 cent power. 85 cents cost

so 1.75- 85=90 cents a day profit.

about 325 cash for 1 year.

you would need about 440 days to pay off.

low out lay you get in the game. mine and hodl

I think if I was gonna use my old machine, I'd probably just put one GPU in it for practice/educational sake.  If I like it and can understand it well enough, I'd probably go ahead and build something proper, I'd want something to be able to run for a good long while.  I like the idea that you can have some flexibility with the different coins.  I'm intrigued.

One of the sites I was on yesterday, was saying use this card for this coin, that card for that coin...  How do you know that by looking at the card specs? I'd hate to find a card by chance in a store or online only to find out it can't mine whatever coins I am wanting to mine.  I saw one card specifying the type of processors it had, is that what governs the type of algorithms it can chew on?

And Philip, you mentioned some cards you were selling off, can you tell me more about those?  Might be great to start with something proven and fast track in by following in your foot steps.

Philip, with that math on those 2 cards from bestbuy, are you speaking terms of any specific coin?

and you're right - they are showing up as sold out LOL. sheesh.

Got a RTX 3090 today (EVGA Hybrid).  It loves power, but is quite efficient.  It pretty much matches BIOS modded 5700XT's at around 380 kW/W.

Note that the power readings for the AMD rigs include +35% to account for RAM, fans, etc, which are not part of the GPU power consumption mining programs reports:

Phil, btw, I sold all 26 of my 1080Ti's over the last week.  Got $499 for almost all of them within 24 of posting on eBay.  All my 1070's went for around $210 and my 1070Ti's went for $289.  Quite a number of them I purchased from you back in early 2018.  My 1080Ti's are all from fall 2017, so I have 3+ years mining 24/7 on them, so getting $450 after fees is a very decent return after they have already paid themselves off at least 2 times over.  I'm glad I waited until everyone realized that 3000 series (and AMD 6000 series for that matter) are pretty much impossible to get, which has really driven up the value of the 1000 series cards.

I'd love to snatch about 30 3060Ti's @$399, but it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon.  I was at 2.4GH on Eth before I dumped all my 1000 series cards.  Would like to get back to that with 3000 series cards (don't really like the hassle of getting AMD cards running stable and the hassle of flashing the BIOS with memory straps).

Yeah, the 3000 series will take till feb to be easy to get.

I may list on ebay.

As the interest here has not been much at all.

I have 7 1080ti hybrids left

Just got my Asus 5600 XT & 5700 running, was little bit pain in a**.

I dont know was the problem mixing 500 and 5000 series cards, but got the to work with 20.20 driver.

Any advice about the clocks and voltages?

Amds cards are always a pain to get running without any issues 24/7  Cheesy
I have mixed rig with 5700xt, 5700 and 5600xt

I suggest you to run everything stock first, don't touch anything, and let run for 24h to see if it's stable, and then you can increase memory slowly, when you're happy with results you can undervolt to have better efficiency, and reduce the core clock too

At first I tried to overclock, undervolt and all at same time, I spent days until find the better result to be stable 24/7, and I found out that it's always better to do a step by step like I said above

If you run stock and stable for 24h you can know risers, GPUs, drivers and system are all good, and only thing to modify is GPUs settings

It was impossible to run that 5700 stock, mem temp was something like 106C and that wattage was over 200. System should be good as i only changed GPUs to newer.
I try to drive them now with these settings, maybe tomorrow i try to lift that memory little bit.

So, which cards would you buy right now? I am planning to replace 5 rigs of 8xPolaris cards and will probably downsize in total rig count.

Am thinking to aim for two rigs of RTX 3080s - trying to aim for the same/similar hash-rate.
Now my question is: Which RTX 3080s are best in price/performance? I have a Microcenter around the corner, so hopefully can get lucky one of those days and grad a few to start with, but would love to see, which cards I should avoid.

I understand, so try to leave memory at stock, there are some GPUs I had that didn't reach 900 (1800mhz) stable, and another boards need more than 800mv on memories

I have the same Asus 5600Xt and looking at your picture, you core clock is 1100mhz, mine is 1300, and my power consumption is 90w for 5600xt and 115w for 5700xt, maybe you need to get more power on these two boards to become stable

Well woke up today and my 4GB old rig was down. Decided to reboot it, and it fails when loading the DAG. Apparently #381 is the last dag that works for 4GB under Linux/Ubuntu. So I guess this was the end of the road for the 4GB cards. Bought them in Summer 2016 so they lasted many many years. Only issue I had was dead fans.

Maybe or maybe not I will try that lolminer however I don't think its worth the hassle anymore. Unless the hashrate is reduced alot and the slower speed is caught up with the lower difficulty. Will keep checking https://etherscan.io/chart/hashrate and see how the next couple of days will go.

If you check a pool hashrate, https://ethermine.org/statistics  it looks like there was a dip but it quickly went up again, only loss was 1TH/s of hashrate.

I've been watching people talking about this coming death for 4GB cards, but I'm curious - this is because of the DAG file specific to Ethereum, correct?  Are there other coins then you could point the rig at and keep making *something* with it?  Or does it just become obsolete and it's time to part it out on ebay or something?

Yes, it's because the DAG size of ETH in specific, another coins and algos have another DAG size
Look what ETC did, they reduced dag to fit and get 4Gb cards mining again and it's a win win situation (more hashrate, more security against 51% atacks)

There are another options to mine with 4gb cards too, but nothing as profitable as ETH  Cheesy
So the dead of 4gbs are only for ETH at the moment, unless some dev find a "magic" solution

I've been watching people talking about this coming death for 4GB cards, but I'm curious - this is because of the DAG file specific to Ethereum, correct?  Are there other coins then you could point the rig at and keep making *something* with it?  Or does it just become obsolete and it's time to part it out on ebay or something?

dont buy 4gb cards. 6gb should be good for next 18 months.

I am going to clifton farm on sunday. I will be bringing the 3 card 1660ti rig home.

even these are selling at a premium on ebay. cards I purchased for under 300 mined for a year are selling for 300 to 339 on ebay.

very soon a glut of 4gb cards will hit ebay.

avoid them. when I bring the 1660ti rig home I will post some photos of it here.

I could very likely sell that rig for 1000 usd maybe a little more on ebay

I usually sell gear here at a discount based on ebay prices.

If that rig could get 1000 on ebay. and if the buyer did not fuck me. I could clear 850 fees and shipping would make it be 150.

If I sold it for 900 here and paid 50 to ship it. I would clear the same 850. but I would ask less then 900.

and less then 850
and less then 800 which would be a bargain at current rates.  since cards alone on ebay cost more then 1000.

and they are sold out everywhere.

Hey philipma, or anyone using 3070s

What's the real hashrate and power consumption of 3070?
I'm seeing some videos and comments but some people only tested for some minutes
(people on Youtube only test for some minutes, and didn't show power at the wall, so I'm a little confused here)

Anyone using for a couple of days?
I know it's probably not the same hashrate per watt as 3060ti but I think it will have a better resale value in some months
