Been many years since the last GPU build i made.

Going to install Windows 10, on the old times had to install MSI Trixx to make the proper adjustments and use cgminer after that.
From what i read just need to install a miner software like CUDA miner and it does all for us.

Any tips on what software to use that makes the underclock and mining on the GPUs?

cgminer? Wow you must be a really old timer to use cgminer. When I started back in 2014, sgminer was pretty popular. People back then were mining litecoin type of forks and all my r9 280x gpus were using sgminer. I remember I always liked the layout of sgminer and prefer that style today compared to most miners which just scroll down.

cgminer was way before my time, I don't think I ever used it even once. sgminer is a fork of cgminer from what I understand but what are the major differences? Was it mostly used for mining BTC or was it mostly used for CPU mineable type coins.

I know that most ASICs use cgminer as the same miner software however don't know if any GPUs ever were used with cgminer.

cgminer is still being used for scrypt mining in 2014, i think i didn't bother much with sgminer back then because cgminer just works and hash rate are just the same.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

msi afterburner is good.

and you could try nicehash as a pool 🏊‍♀️ to start.

Thanks Phill.

Yeah, can't remember the year, i mined with HD5850 and HD5870s, it was harder but more rewarding than ASICs to be honest.

Still considering. Waiting for new radeons to come out to make a decision.
I would build one with NVIDIAs right away if they were in stock but that will take a bit more time.

I would do a rig with a few nvidia 3080
if they could be purchased.

Jeebus it's not often we get old timers over here in the alt-coin section.

Brings me back to the days I was mining BTC on Bitcoin core client to ARSTechnica's Guild. Couldn't find any of those nice 5xxx cards so had to settle for overpriced 6xxx cards. Those were the good old days.

As Phil set you could grab a new nVidia card to start off. I always like to grab an nVidia to game on if other ALT mining goes to poop. I leave my AMD grunts to the heavy lifting on ETH.

Which motherboards are you using to run Ryzen 3800x and 3900x?

I have Asus B350 F Strix, but I read that the VRMs are not good enough to run these "beasts"
Any tips?

Using ryzen 1700 here, but want to upgrade, I found a great deal of 3900xt, and the new ones like 5900 will costs more

Is it really this simple nowadays? Good Stuff!

EDIT: i think this is usefull https://cryptoage.com/en/1919-choosing-os-for-mining-cryptocurrencies-on-video-cards.html

yes its malware and tries to steal wallet info. that exact post (its a copy past every time) is been spammed in claymores thread like every day. i always report it and the mods remove it. soon as they do another post, exactly the same, pops up again. i reported this one too.

i removed the link when i quoted this.

To all I have 6 emails. That I use daily. I am now getting 100 fishing emails a day. Most are for some kind of crypto.
Some are for amazon
some are for Netflix
some are for apple.

I guess hackers are stuck inside and are trying more and more and more.

I have cgminer still running on my single solo mining blockeruptor.  I still have a bunch of old miners in my forgotten altcoins folder, like QTminer.
I still want a 3080 but to be honest the new AMD gpus are going to be awesome.  I hope.  The 5700 is discontinued, 5700XT is too expensive now and the 3080 is impossible to actually buy today.  That leaves us with only big navis in a month.  I shall wait.  Also if u use nicehash for mining ETH depending on your setup, sometimes it switches to crazy fast dag coins and that can cause your rigs to experience errors/reboot.

Thanks Philip, I'm looking this model right now
Here in my country the prices of motherboards are insane, more than GPUs for example, it's hard to find honest price on X570 mobos

I'm not looking for thread rippers, but this 3900x, looks so good and strong to mine, use in my PC and have a decent price to sell after some time

Yes this is actually why I stopped mining any type of DaggerHashimoto type of coins on Nicehash. Same with mining any Dagger altcoins with Claymore because I could never for the life of me find a way to make the DAG switch stable so it doesn't crash a rig.

Even back in 2016 when I mined Ethereum using ethminer (miner included with ethereum wallet) every 5 days all my rigs would crash during the new DAG. You could see this live because if you went to ethstats you would see that the hashrate immediately drops after a new DAG.

Then when Claymore came out it was fixed whenever a new DAG came out, but you couldn't mine any alt dagger coins with Claymore because the dev fee would switch back to ETH. The constant switching back and forth eventually crashed a GPU or two.

agreed, most stable would be to mine one dagger coin and stick to it, and restart on DAG change.  Anybody using TRM latest update ?  I had stability issues before but I'll test them out vs phoenix soon see who has better reported hashrate on my gear.  I heard TRM would win.

The algo is not suitable for multi-coin pools. It's not something the miner can deal with, it
can't reliably tell whether new work from the stratum server is for the a different coin or just
a new job for the current coin.

Each coin requires its own server so a coin switch is handled the same as an algo switch.
Some multipools can workaround this by allowing users to mine a specific coin.

put the rigs on ethermine for example and they should stop crashing.  I dont have anything on nicehash eth related anymore.  Now rigs are rock stable.
